*pops in to second all of Bibliophile's recommendations* Lilypad, you should definitely read Because of Mr. Terupt, that is one of my favorite books ever. The Apothecary and PJO are my favorite series, as well.

Alright. I read lots of realistic fic/historical fic, and I'm just going to say The Book Thief is definitely one you should read if you like books about WWII.

Also. Carl. Hiassen. Is. The. Best. Author. Ever. He's written four YA books- they're all set in Florida, and are sort of centered around saving an animal/group of animals somehow. You may have heard of Hoot, I've read that book at least three times and seen the movie so many times I lost count. Other ones by him you should read are Chomp, Flush, and Scat.

A classic book I'd recommend is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It's pretty much the only classic book I like, so it must be pretty good.

The Lunar Chronicles are a good (dystopian?) series! If you are looking for one. Also, Maximum Ride seems to be pretty popular right now, it's good.

Some historical fic books-

Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi- (civil war, 1861)

Diamond in the Desert by Kathryn Fitzmaurice- (Japanese internment camps, 1941)

The Great Trouble by Deborah Hopkinson- (Cholera outbreaks in Britain, 1854)

Anything by Brian Selznick (Anything is not the name of the book, just read anything by him. Half of the book is pictures, you will love it!) I'd recommend Wonderstruck and The Marvels.

The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis- (The Great Depression)

The Bicycle Spy by Yona Zeldia McDonough- (WWII)

The Black Lotus by Kieran Fanning- (sixteenth-century Japan)

Some true-story historical books-

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand- (WWII)

Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki and James D. Houston- (Japanese internment camps)

The Port Chicago 50 by Steve Sheinkin- (WWII)

Ann Frank's Diary (It's actually called The Diary of a Young Girl, but whatever)

REALISTIC FIC:

Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord

Rules by Cynthia Lord

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech

As Simple As It Seems by Sarah Weeks

Fish in A Tree by Linda Mullaly Hunt

Loot and Sting by Judy Blundell (these are two separate books but a series)

Hold Fast by Blue Balliett (she's a good author. I also like her books Chasing Vermeer, The Danger Box, The Calder Game, and The Wright 3)

From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konisburg (this might also be historical fic? It's in the 1960s) This is one of the best books I have ever read.

A Time to Dance by T.V. Padma

Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin

Slob by Ellen Potter

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

Also, Fish in a Tree, Hoot (and Chomp and Flush and everything else), The One and Only Ivan, Lunar Chron, The Diary of Anne Frank and literally ANYTHING by Brian Selsnick is amazing.
