Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Ashes of Roses/A Thousand Splendid Suns
Ashes of Roses...

Ashes of Roses and A Thousand Splendid Suns are amazing books. Ashes of Roses is about an Irish immigrant, Rose, who travels to America and the early 1900's. Her family is sadly, broken up, and she and her sister have to stay, while the rest go back home. Rose gets a job at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, and then something awful happens. I'm not telling what, because it would ruin the story.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is about the experiences of two women, living in Afghanistan from 1950ish to now. Mariam and Laila from very different backgrounds. Both are married to the same, awful man, Rasheed. Even though both of these books sound really different, they have many of the same themes, such as strength, love, forgiveness, and longing. They also have a political comentary included in them. These books belong on the shelves of classics, like A Christmas Carol, The Golden Compass, and Watership Down. These belong above Harry Potter, and far, far above Twilight and Warriors (No offense, it's just that I can't see them on the same level as these. They don't have the same compassion, the same... eternalness). They are must-reads for anyone oh, say, 12 and over. The content can be scary and disturbing, but they are both books I cried over. These are books you'll want to read, and reread, because the stories will make you tear up, or at least A Thousand Splendid Suns will. I want anyone who has read these to come, and I don't want much mention of unrelated books, because this is a thread for Ashes of Roses and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Admin, could you keep the trolling off this thread? Comments unrelated to these books just don't belong here. I did mention Twilight and Warriors above, but that was only to give a sense of proportion to everyone, twilight and Warriors hater or lover. The lovers will say "Wow. Better than Warriors/Twilight? I better check it out!" The haters will say "Duh. Ashes of Roses and A Thousand Splendid Suns are way better than that!" So, don't delete anything I have here, but P*EASE delete the trolling.

Pirocks, I'm sorry we can't promise, because when we review and post comments, it's not easy for us to see which thread they go to. But we hope Chatterboxes will stick to the subject of each thread.

They sound interesting. Can you give me the authors' names so that I can request them at the library?

Those books sound really neat! I'll have to look for them. There 's something about a book that you cry over that sort of...I don't know, caps it off? Like the characters are real people, and you feel their pain like you would a friend's or relatives. I've read several books that have made me cry, and once, with "Abhorsen," by Garth Nix, I sat for about half an hour just crying and crying! I think it was because it was so unexpected and sad. In any case, I'll definitely look for those books. :):):)
