Chatterbox: Blab About Books

SOMETHING BESIDE WARRIOR CLAN AND HP!!
Sorry to be...

Sorry to be the critic here.  But can we talk about something beside being medicine cats and etc. in your ______ Clan and Harry Potter?  I don't get it.  I've never read either of those books... that might be my issue, but still, are there any other good books out there that we can talk about, that won't stay on the first page for only a day!?!?  BaB is so popular, the first thread I made on here, *tears* stayed on 4 a day and not much more.  I know most of you won't agree, so you can ignore me.  I don't really care.  :S  :D

Right, sorry. Um...

How about the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett?

I've never read it. Would you recomend it?

Oh, yes. It's like some bizarre but brilliant hybrid of Lord of the Rings and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And I love the way he portrays Death.

The books can be a bit slow on the onset, though, but they always pick up and get really convoluted and/or interesting.

Pratchett also has a way of rapidly switching through different POVs that can sometimes be a little confusing, but he's got the skill to pull it off so it doesn't get annoying in the slightest. He also manages to make each POV somewhat distinct so you figure out who it is pretty quickly.

Best of all he doesn't write Sues. Ever, that I've come across.

And while we're on the topic of British humor, I also highly recommend Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Your last comment caught my eye, TNO (umlaut).  I read the Hitchiker's Guide, but I couldn't understand half of it, maybe because I couldn't find the plot and the humor was over my head.  Maybe you could help?

Yeah, good idea. I love Harry Potter, but we are kind of taking over BaB. Your threads likely went to the back of the queue; it's a Chatterbox glitch that every new thread, when commented on, goes to the end. Don't worry about it, or about having never read those books!!! :)

So... other books... Well, I like books by Wendy Mass, but everyone probably knows that already. :)

Okay, yes. True.

H'm... how about the Phantom Tollbooth? I mean, I know it's really a little kids' book, but it's still a classic.

I love The Phantom Tollbooth. I love the worldplay, the imaginary world, and how expressions are used literally.

Yeah, the 'jumping to conclusions' was funny.

Juniper by Monica Furlong is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

There aren't many people who seem to have read it though. Actually, I haven't met anybody who has read it.

So if there are any people out there who have read it, PLEASE PLEASE write back on this thread.

The sequels to Juniper are Wise Child and Coleman.

I'm almost done with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's quite interesting.

Yes, I keep trying to get my little sister to read The Phantom Tollbooth but she won't listen. She never takes my book recommendations seriously. :(
