This is where...

This is where you can write ANYTHING about Harry Potter. Like: Your fav character, and why. Your fav book from the series. Do you think so or so should have died.

I'll get a conversation starting if that's OK:

What do you do to show your Harry Potter spirit?

Favourite characters! Whoo! (y'all know what comes next...)

Fiiiiiirrrrsssst of all, Snape! Wee!

Why? Well I suppose because he was arguably the deepest character of the series. He starts off as this nasty, bad tempered potions master ("Harry Potter! Detention! For talking out of turn."), escalates into a possible bad-guy ("What happened in the graveyard?"), and in book six appeared to plenty of readers to be a definite bad-guy ("All hail Voldemort!"), and in the end redeemed himself as a double agent ("Oh, I am a traitor, Potter, because I'm about to betray someone... right... now! *slashes Death Eater*). And then he turned out to be Lily's friend, which, while not entirely unexpected, was unbelievably sad.

Annnd second we have Bellatrix!

Because she's a sadistic, deranged, powerful follower of the Dark Lord who doesn't care about anything or anyone besides her master. It's fascinating and bizarre and scary and certainly pitiable to an extent... Er... If you really want to see why I like her so much, read the HPRP, I suppose, after she comes in...

Next up is Voldy!

I don't think he's all that great in canon (largely because of the BellaxVoldy issue). However, I love him because he's so much fun in fanfiction. The canon!Voldy has all this wonderful potential, you see, and he can be taken in all these wonderful directions and bunny trails. And besides, he's an evil megalomaniac. With a snake. I mean, hello?

Fourth is Mary!Albus.

Because he's basically a BA already and he's only eleven.

Coming in fifth is Draco.

Again, he's a fairly complex character for a minor antagonist. He starts off as an arrogant bully and remains so for about five books, after which he joins up with the Death Eaters and realizes that it's not so glamourous after all. So his character immediately gains woobie status while still retaining Evil is Cool because he actually manages to get Death Eaters into Hogwarts despite all the stress ("The vents! Your Death Eaters shall enter through the ventilation system of Hogwarts!"). In the end it's implied he somewhat sees the error of his ways (not in our ff though...) and makes an uneasy peace with Harry and Co.

And yes, I am aware that all my favourites are villains. And yes, I used AVPM quotes to back up my arguments, because I am just awesome like that.

And speaking of AVPM, may I just say that I lovelovelove the QxV thing? While personally I'm BellaxVoldy all the way, QxV just makes a for a wonderful crack pairing. Besides which, it also makes a certain amount of sense... I mean, Voldy was basically attached to the back of Quirrell's head, completely helpless, for a year. You'd think you'd at least learn to get along in that situation ("Look, if we're going to be in this situation for a while we're going to have to learn to live with each other." and "Ok, you can relax with the Dark King stuff. ...You can call me Voldemort, we're there.")

@ Hannah: Nothing unfortunately, none of the people I know are really HP fans. They'd look at me strangely. Um... I do occasionally annoy Maggie by making obscure references, though, usually to the ff. *cough*

Yay! :D Albus was fourth! ...What's BA, though?

Um... let's see. Draco was probably my favourite, especially in the later books. I also liked Lockhart and Umbridge, minor though they were... TNO (umlaut) has brought me around to the Bellatrix way of thinking (which anyone can see mainfested in the discussion now going on between Hannah and myself on CriReaRec), and on the topic of FF Albus is very wonderful.

I also very much liked Barty Crouch Jr., especially in the movie. Oh, and I love both Voldy and Snape's backstories.

Um... QxV? ...um... o.O What...?

Yay! Barty Crouch Jr.! <3 And yes. I don't understand your refrences either.... *is confuzzled*

So. does anybody love Luscious Malfloy (yes, I finally got it! i used to think it was Lucus. o.O) as much as I do?

Lucius Malfoy, that is. There isn't an "o".

Anyway, yes, well, he's a Malfoy, naturally he's, uh, "totally awesome." Plus, long hair. Drool.

I think long hair on boys is ugly. I have a cousin and his hair is longer than his sister's. That's just plain wrong.

Wrong?  My dad has longer hair than me.  And my hair is shoulder length.  Leifs hair goes down his back, Elijah's hair is longer than mine, and Dustin has long dread locks, the last time I saw him.  (I think I was seven).  And if you went to a jakes Leg concert you would see a lot of long-haired boys walking around.

@ TNO (umlaut): I must disagree about long hair on boys being attractive... and I know what QxV stood for, I was merely stating the fact that that is, er, very, shall we say, strange, wrong, weird... etc. ...

Here are my fav characters in different catagories:

Girl student: Luna Lovegood of course!

Boy student: I sorta like Neville, but how could you not like Harry in some way, but Ron is funny, so one of those.

Woman chracter: Tonks.

Man character: Remus Lupin.

@ TNO (umlaut): work on the argument for long hair on guys?

;)

@ Hannah: Reasons Not to Like Harry:

1. STU!

2. Angsty, brooding hero type of guy, which is rather annoying.

3. One of the flatter characters.

4. Anyone who falls in love with Ginny, hates Snape, and lets the Dursleys push him around can't be all that.

5. He's dying soon anyway, joint effort of the part of Voldy and Bellatrix and Albus, so I wouldn't get too attached. *shrug*

Mary W.: I'm not saying that Harry Potter is my favorite character. I'm just sayin' that he's a pretty good guy, unlike Draco, Crabbe, Goyle, Blaise, and well I could go on but I think ya get the idea. (And what's a STU?)

A Gary Stu (or Stu for short) is a seemingly flawless character, one who is so perfect that he's annoying. Mary Liz put it in all caps for emphasis only.

The female version of a Gary Stu is a Mary Sue.
