Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Most underrated or overrated book?
Is there a...

Is there a particular book you think should be be appreciated more or appreciated less? This is a discussion thread for those books that deserve less or more attention.

Remember, it's all in good fun, and be respectful of others' opinions.

An underrated book I'd recommend is the Wingfeather Saga. I know it has a fanbase, but I think it deserves more attention. It's just so good a book series.

The Wingfeather Saga is amazing!

Has anyone read the Far-Distant Oxus? It was written in like the 1930s or so, by two girls who were 15 and 16 at the time. They wrote alternate chapters, then read each other's work, then sent it to Arthur Ransome, a well-known author at the time. It's about 6 kids who have adventures in the moors of Scotland with their ponies. Honestly, I don't know why it's not a classic.

Yes!  I have read The Far Distant Oxus!  But only the abridged version (which is still good) because my library doesn't have the full one.  There are two (or three) other books in the series that I so want to read, but they're rare and expensive.  Especially the last one, Crowns.

I remember being so amazed at how well they wrote for 15 and 16 year olds.  I still am.

I really enoy reading their book and I agree with you.  Why is it not a classic?  Same with the Swallows and Amazons series (by Arthur Ransome and about a couple family of kids and their adventures in sailing)  Though I think it is one in England.

I think the Harry Potter seires is a bit over rated. I think the books are okay, but not super good and some other books deserve more atention then it. I love Rick Riordens Magnus Chase seires, but they are over shadowed by Percy Jackson, which once again are good books but I don't think they deserve as much atention as some of his other books.

I feel the same! I do enjoy the books from time to time, but you are right in thinking that they are merely OK. Also J.K. Rowling has some bad opinions which I won't discuss because of sensitivity.

I agree. I think the generation that older then us made the Harry Potter seires big though, and they really love it so...

I agree about the Harry Potter thing.

To tell the truth, I prefer Wings Of Fire. I was a fan of HP, but when I read WOF my fandom lowered a lot.

Maybe it's more well-known than I thought, but who's read the Alex Rider series, by Anthony Horowitz? It's amazing.

Percy Jackson is overrated. Sorry, guys. I actually have a friend who likes the Wingfeather saga, but I haven't read it.

I mentioned this series in the Favorite Books thread, but the Books Of Bayern and Princess Academy by Shannon Hale are underrated in my opinon! It's so good and I often get the urge to reread it!

I really liked that series! Might be a little controversial with all the Twilight shippers, but I think the romances aren't the best. It takes time to fall in love, and a feeling of trust, security, and overall respect and admiration on both sides, but the romances of Twilight don't really have most of those crucial things.

This is my opinion though, and I'd like to know yours!

I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver should have way more recognition than it does. It has great enby rep and was written by an enby author. It deserves to have a movie made like Five Feet Apart, The Hate u Give, Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, or The Fault In Our Stars. There is some content that can be triggering though.
