I just finished

Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Hitchhicker's Guide To The Galaxy
I just finished...

I just finished reading it, and it is so awesome! I can't wait to get the next one. The Resturant At The End Of The Universe, yes? Ford and Arthour are really funny, and so is Deep Thought's answer.I also like the idea that mice are rling the world.... O.o Anyone else read it?

I read it, and the first 3 books of the trilogy were awesome. The last 2, less so.

I've heard good things about it, but haven't read it. What's it about?

@ Allison:Well, basically this guy named Arthour (who, FYI, is "About thirty, tall, dark-haired, and never quite at ease with himself") is whisked off into the galaxy with his friend Ford, and along the way, he meets many strange er.... species in the galaxy, some of which are ploting to A)kill him B)keep him, as he is the last Earth man remaining, and C) make a new Earth, because they destroyed tthe old one. Really very funny.

These are wonderful books. Though they definitely contain some material unsuitable for younger kids (*cough have you read the last two yet? cough*).

"What are they about" is a very difficult question to answer. Mathilda did a fair job, all things considered.

Let's see, so Earth gets destroyed and Ford takes Arthur into space. Trillian does some stuff, Zaphod ("Zaphod? He's just this *guy*, you know?") steals a spaceship, some stuff happens, 42-towels-mice etc., Marvin is brilliant. Marvin rocks. Marvin rocks more. Then in the rest of the books there's this restaurant, and dolphins, and apocalypses! And, mm, let me think... oh yes, Random, the daughter. And... the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, of course. 42 makes appearances. Earth gets destroyed a bunch more times. Marvin rocks, Marvin is wonderful, >MILD SPOILER< Marvin is killed off by DNA *scowls at DNA*. And, well... it's very hard to explain. It's a good project for a boring rainy day, trying to summarize the /five-book/ Hitchhikers /trilogy/...

They're really great, though, and funny.

Yes. Marvin is indeed awesome. By the way, I've only read the first book (I hate it when you have to be in the waiting list in the lbrary. Ugh!), but I could still gather from the first book, that it is not sutable for kids under, let's say about 10. Great book, though. Anyone 10+ should definetly read them.

I know, the waiting list is just dreadful. *pulls face* What number are you?

The slightly mature content increases *coughArthurandFenchurchcough*... you should be fine with it, though, Mathilda. 10+ is probably a good guideline for the most part... Anyhow, could be worse.

Although Reuben is right that the second two don't compare to the originals, they're all very wonderful books.

@ Mary: I'm about number 8 on the waiting list.... :( I hope those people are very fast readers. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'm glad it's not too umm... mature. (Oh, and by the way, I finished Dracula, and I loved it. I don't know if you saw the end of the Drac thread I made, as it went to the bottom.)

I haven't read it either but I've seen the moive and i saw it when about ten and  was kind of freaked out. before coming to  this cite didn't even know the movie was based off a book. Now I am going to have to find that and compare it to the movie.

It sounds very creative, but not really my type of book.

@ Mathilda: Eight? Well, that could be worse... try and get Eclipse from my library, there'll literally be EIGHTY-FOUR people on the list. (Eighty-four!)

@ Mary: Yeah, I know. I'm just very impatient. *taps fingers on desk* Ho hum. As for 84 people wanting to read Eclipse, well, one thing I don't see is why they're that popular. As you all know, I kind of liked Twilight, but there are books that are so much better than that.

Like the five-book Hitchhikers trilogy!

Though they're evenly matched in that DNA'S are called a "trilogy" and Smeyer's are called a "saga," both terms being incorrect for the books in question. *nod*

As for impatience... *smirk* 166 school days 'til school's out, and 526 school days 'til graduation! W00t!

I *invented* impatience. XD

Though in DNA's defense, he lampshaded the incorrect title- "Mostly Harmless: the Fifth Book in the Increasingly Inaccurately Named Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy".

The Pratchett/Discworld waiting lists at my library are horrendous. And of course we don't have a bookstore, so... *headdesk*
