Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Would You Rather: Book Edition
On this thread...

On this thread we can ask each other book-related would you rather questions!

I'll start:

Would you rather spend a day with Harry Potter or Percy Jackson?

I'd read the book first. The movie changes bug me, and my parents like us to read the book first so you can imagine the characters in your own way.

Read the book and rant here about the changes and I would absolutely love to spend the day with Percy because I feel like he would treat you less like a weird fan and more like a frieand. Plus Harry is a jerk in The Cursed Child.

Read the book first!  The books are ALWAYS better so watching the movie would be spoilers here.

I think maybe percy jackson because I'd like to see camp half-blood and meet all of his friends.

Hogwarts. Without doubt.

For @Rainbow :P's questions, definitely fiction! And probably fantasy, based on the mood I'm in, though realistic fiction is also my favorite.

For @Pancake's question, definitely read the book first UNLESS it was a really old/long/boring classic. I can't really get through classics. I couldn't even finish Little Women, which I loved up to the second half, but the movie (the latest one) was awesome.

For @Wren's question, Hogwarts! Middle Earth is awesome, but it's kind of more likely that you'll randomly die. Also there are like zero women or girls in Middle Earth......so that kinda rules me out.

Here's a question, kind of based off Pancake's: would you rather read a book based on a movie or watch a movie based off a book?

I would rather watch a movie based off a book because even though they do kind of annoy me sometimes, there are some really good ones (Lord of the Rings! Little Women! Wrinkle in Time!) and I don't really trust books based on movies because even if they're well written, I can't help but feel like they were mostly published to make money for the movie company.

Hogwarts.  I love J.R.R. Tolkein more than Harry Potter, but I'd probably die if I chose Middle-Earth.  I've always daydreamed about going to Hogwarts.

Movie based off a book, for the exact same reasons as Lupine.  I'd just watch Ragnarok.

I'd want to meet my favorite character. For one thing, it might actually be possible to meet a favorite author, but it wouldn't be possible to meet a favorite character, so given the choice, definitely character.
I'd want to be unpopular but write a really good book. I just hope I'd REALIZE it was a good book. If no one was buying/liking it that would probably make me wonder.
I think I'd rather read the sequel, if it was a good one. I started Harry Potter and the Cursed Child but DID NOT finish it beacause, well, it was sort of scary in a way. And I didn't want the other Harry Potter books ruined for me.
By the way, sorry for answering these questions out of order.  Here's a question:
Would you rather go into your favorite book, or be there with the author as they finished the book?

Hopefully I got the order right (:D):

1) Hmm, this is hard. I think if it's a matter of the person himself, I'd pick Percy, since he's constantly making jokes. But since he's a powerful demigod, he's also constantly being attacked by monsters, so if it's all-or-nothing (if you get my drift), I'd pick Harry.

2) A page torn out!! Even if it was torn out at the climax, I could find a different copy of the book. I'd be seriously annoyed either way, but I CAN'T STAND IT when people don't use proper grammar and punctuation. (And I'm really embarrassed when I don't do it myself.)

3) I'd rather have the sequel; I don't really care if the people I don't like read my favorite book, and I can just recommend it to my friends.

4) Meet the character! Someone else said that it's possible to meet the author in real life, but, assuming it's a fictional book, they're, you know, fictional. Also, since I read mostly fantasy, they would know magic or be able to turn into a giant squirrel with laser eyes or something.

5) I'd rather be a not-very-well-known but good author.  I want to have genuinely good work.

6) Hmm... I guess if it's a good book I've already read and a mediocre new one, I'd reread, but if it's a really good new book, I want to discover new places and characters and ideas.

7) LeafWing! Lots of dragons are suspicious and scared of fire, and friends are very important to me. Also, it'd just be really cool to be able to talk to plants.

8) I think I'd have to choose never reading a book with an animal (well, non-human) protagonist again, since I mostly read about people, but it would depend on where the line is. Would this mean I can only read about HUMAN humans, or would things like demigods from Percy Jackson be okay too? Wait...this would mean I couldn't read Wings of Fire anymore. Hrm. I think this one has stumped me :)

9) I definitely prefer fiction. Although there are so many good things too, there are a lot of terrible things in the real world, and fictional stories (or at least fantasy) can offer a break from them.

10) I think I prefer fantasy for the previously stated reason, but it's super hard to decide :)

11) I'm a strong believer in reading the book before the movie...IF the book came first. Generally, I want to read/watch them in the order they came out. In general, though, book first.

12) Hogwarts because I haven't read Lord of the Rings yet :)

13) I'd definitely choose a movie based on a book. The one that came first is usually better, but I really don't like books that are spinoffs of movies.

Apologies for the long post!! :D
