Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Twlight
I just finished...

I just finished Twilight and I can understand why some people hate it and some love it.  Personally I think it's very good.

The first time I read Twilight, I loved/liked it.  But then, when I read it a second time, I actually thought about it.   Bella did not care that Edward snuck into her room through the window and watched her sleep at night.  But then she found out he was a sparkly vampire that had no fangs and hunted endangered species of animals instead of the over-populated humans.  And she loved the perfect Edward.  As yuo can see, I don't really like it much.  But I don't hate twilight, or love it.  I just think it's okay, and very easy-to-read mind candy.

btw (that, I think was the first time I used an ebreviation thing!), I skip the kissy parts, skip paragraph, and then, if they talk, I skip more than one...  And I haven't gotten to reading the last two books, going to, sometime, maybe...

*carefully tiptoes onto thread* *looks around* Is it safe to voice opinions on Twilight here? Are we going to get out of hand and start name-calling like we did last time?

Looking at our CriReaRec Twilight thread, there was some squee!ing for a while and then somehow Discworld became the main point of discussion, and then someone asked me "what is your problem"...

Ugh. Sorry. Those two paragraphs were a bit all over the place... needed somewhere to ramble...

I really liked all of them! Although, I read (on another Twilight thread) one of Mary W's posts that said how many times Bella describes Edward as cold, stone, marble, etc. and now I'm noticing that a lot and it's kind of bugging me! I guess she does say cold, stone, marble, statue, and hard, like, once or twice a page whenever she talks about him, but I still really like them. (true, though, they are easy-reads)

Yes. Using c'n'p, these were the exact stats that I put on http://www.cricketmagkids.com/books/27462:

Random piece of information: in the first book, Bella calls Edward "hard" 109 times, "stone" 29 times, "marble" 9 times, and "statue" seven times, but then she also calls him "soft" 48 times. Hard and soft at the same time? Does that even make sense?

See what we antis mean when we cough politely and say "purple prose"?

I wasn't a fan of Twilight, but I absolutely adored the other three even though their plots were a bit.... thin. (in my opinion anyway) You know why I loved them? the only reason I stuck with them was because of the werewolves. they were funny and brave, and down to earth werewolves, if that was possible.  And I love Jacob's persistence. I really wanted Bella to pick Jake in the end, especially after (spoilers) shes almost about to explode  in Breaking Dawn and Edward asks Jacob to give Bella what she wants. I was sort of depressed, though, (more spoilage) when Jake imprints on their kid,  even if it was sweet.

I didn't have any huge problems with Jacob (Lycan-induced pratness aside, I mean...) but inprinting on a newborn being glorified as romantic? Really, Smeyer? *Really*?

*agrees about thinness of plots*

I used to like it, but then I read what people here thought about it and realized it wasn't so fantastic after all. BUT... I'm not completely against it and still think that it's fun and extremely-easy-to-read mind candy.

Personally I don't enjoy the book Twilight, or any of the saga.  I am not allowed to read the last because my mom says it's WAY too inappropriate!
