Hi, I was...

Hi, I was wondering does anyone like the Grishaverse books? They are really good, there are 3 different series all in the same universe, plus some extra books about the saints and fairy tales and other stuff, by Leigh Bardugo. It's really great!

I just finished reading the SoC duology and I absolutely love it!!

Yeah, it's so good! The ships in it are really well written. Have you read S&B or KoS yet?

Yesss the Grishaverse!!

I've read Six of Crows and Shadow and Bone series, but haven't got around to King of Scars.

Who are your favorite characters and favorite ships? My favorite character from SoC is either Kaz or Inej, or maybe Wylan, and from SaB it's probably Genya, or Nikolai.

((slight Crooked Kingdom spoiler ahead))

My favorite ship from SoC is definitely Wesper, with Kanej a close second. I'm not sure about SaB - it's been a while since I've read the books, and none of the ships are sticking out to me rn. I should probably reread those books.

((end spoiler))

And I haven't seen the show. My family doesn't have a Netflix subscription, so I probably won't be able to watch it for a while. Has any one else seen it? Is it good? Does it differ much from the books?

I really like Kaz and Inej too, and also Nina.

Spoiler Ahead:

It was so sad that Matthias died Cry Cry Cry don't worry Nina finds someone else in KoS though. BUT STILL!!!!!! *sobs internally*

End of spoiler

I really like those ships too. The first one you mentioned (I'm not saying it because I'm to lazy to put another spoiler warning) is SO AMAZING oh wait I do need a spoilet alert ok here Spoiler Alert it's so funny that they both sort of have trauma with touching people because at one point there's a quote that;s something like "The two toughest people in Ketterdam couldn't touch each other without both of them keeling over". they are SO perfect for each other! Then at the end, when Kaz gets her a ship and her parents, it's like, WOW so you are capable of doing good things I knew it! end of spoiler

I personally thought SaB wasn't as good as SoC (that is one of the main causes of arguments with my friends, also including: Band Kids vs. Orc Dorks, Harry Potter vs. Star Wars, and Scouts vs. Girl Scouts. try to guess my opinions on each of those . . . ). I REALLY recommend KoS, it pretty much combines a bunch of good characters (although Inej and Kaz are barely in it, only mentioned a few times and Kaz is in it once) and really good ships, and also VERY important information about the GV in general hint hint: dragons, saints, wars, marriages, etc. You might want to read SaB agian though, if you forgot a lot of it, bc it has a lot of those characters. I think the main POVs are Nikolai, Zoya, and Nina, then some are added on later in the series, like new characters and stuff

wow this post is so long . . . sorry that some of my sentences are a bit weird I think I sort of went crazy halfway through. I just really like these books.

oh, and about the TV show, I started watching the first episode once. This was before I read SoC, but they had the AUDACITY to COMBINE THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE SEPARATE TIMELINES! So of course I was like, wait, Six of Crows people? Oh no! This makes no sense!

And it was made even worse by weird things like: Alina was half Suli and people didn't like her because of that, and...I forgot. I think I stopped watching it after that. But I might try again soon.

I love Leigh Bardugo! Here's some of my controversial opinions:

- okay, Wylan and Jesper are super cute together. But I don't like Kaz + Inej. Kaz should be ace, and Inej should totally be aro :) maybe this is my brain hopelessly trying to get some aspec rep, but seriously they totally fit!!

- Matthias was kind of pointless. I feel like he was there to provide a reason for Nina to be and to wrap up a few loose ends, but not really as a character himself.

- I kind of hate Mal... he's just so... cliché?

feel free to argue with me :)

I actually agree with your second point (and your first point makes sense, but I love Kaz and Inej, how their relationship is mostly that they're just there for each other (excepting the one scene, which was still amazing, and not rly an exception), how they move on at the end as if just knowing is (at least for Inej) enough, their characters in general (though I am partial to amazing strong capable female characters, especially ones with cool names like "the Wraith", but they also just have amazing backstories and development and motivations and personalities and are just so real)... and you rly can't help but love a (fictional) ruthless mastermind who is amazingly smart and knowledgeable and... well, just when you hear Kaz's plans, it's like, HOW?!?, and everything both of them say is a gem "when people know you're a monster, there's no need to do every monstrous thing" or whatever, and.. this is turning into a rant about them so yeah), ANYWAYS, yeah, I feel like Leigh Bardugo could've done more with Matthias's character, but she didn't, and then SPOILER killed him and ended any more possibility for development

END OF SPOILER and honestly, he was my least favorite of them all, and he really does seem like Leigh just put him there for Nina and maybe to share a bit of a diff druskell pov (I didn't really love him and Nina either, or Nina in general, though I like how she is with friends). However, I do have two quotes (off the top of my head, there're prob more) from him that I love, where I rly appreciate what he brings to the team, so maybe he isn't entirely pointless:

Kaz leaned back. "What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?"

"Knife to the throat?" asked Inej.

"Gun to the back?" said Jesper.

"Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina.

"You're all horrible," said Matthias.

and

Jesper knocked his head against the hull and cast his eyes heavenward. “Fine. But if Pekka Rollins kills us all, I’m going to get Wylan’s ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute just so that I can annoy the he** out of your ghost.”
Brekker’s lips quirked. “I’ll just hire Matthias’ ghost to kick your ghost’s a**.”
“My ghost won’t associate with your ghost,” Matthias said primly, and then wondered if the sea air was rotting his brain.

~~~~~
And for some more about Inej and Kaz... I just finished the 2nd episode of Secret Invasion (MCU) today, and it hit me how much Gravik and G'iah are like Kaz and Inej! Which made me like the show a whole lot better (funny how that works...).
For ex:
- they all have traumatic pasts
- Gravik and Kaz both have a hard k sound (also Brekker), which just makes them sound more ruthless for some reason
- Gravik and Kaz are kinda both ruthless masterminds
- Gravik and Kaz both kinda run the operation
- G'iah and Inej are both kinda the second-in-commands, and the former both seem to kinda just expect them to be there, helping them and being loyal and stuff, not always saying thank you
- Gravik and Kaz both give harsh punishments and aren't afraid to kill
- Gravik and Kaz both have lost their parents, and losing a loved family member(s) has made them who they are, and brought them where they are, they are fully committed to a cause
- Gravik and Kaz both seem to really genuinely care about G'iah/Inej
- G'iah and Inej seem to have killed a whole lot of ppl too, but... idk, seem less... receptive? Meh?... to it. Or idk about G'iah though, but that car scene in the woods in episode 2 made me think so
- In both they (just an in general they) SPOILER kill someone who is or was on their side (that guy who talked in episode 2 and Big Bollinger), which, again, G'iah and Inej didn't seem as fine with END OF SPOILER
- they're all rly capable and have reasons for what they're doing and I like them
- G'iah and Inej both seem to be kind of silent and the finding-out-information type
- G'iah and Inej both seem to be one of, if not the, shortest
-Gravik and Kaz both are true about keeping deals and such
- just all their personalities and demeanors and vibes and situations make me connect the groups and characters
btw, I haven't watched the show.
also btw, I feel like Kuwei is ignored a whole lot of the books. And isn't treated as nicely. And is the reason I don't like Jesper and Wylan as much even they are pretty cute together, bc of that whole incident. And... well, yeah. I felt like he was just kinda there to create some drama for Jesper and Wylan too
another btw, I can't agree with your third point, that's from another book, right? I've only read the SoC duology. ... this is long sorry admins I'll stop now
@Hex, I agree with what you said about Mal, I think he's much better for Alina than the Darkling (pg. 219-223 or SaB #1 is really terrible, not the writing, just what happens), but Mal doesn't really seem unique in any way. I really like Kaz and Inej, for the same reasons Celine said, but your point makes a lot of sense too. I think Matthias is OK sometimes, but sometimes he does seem kind of pointless. (There is sort of a point to him dying, though . . . if you remember how at the end Spoiler alert of SoC Nina goes to Fjerda to bury him? Well that leads into KoS WHICH IS SO GOOD WHY CAN'T I FIND ANONE WHO'S READ IT? (but you do need to read Shadow and Bone for it to make sense)
@Celine, I agree that all the quotes from Kaz and Inej are so good! Here's one from another character in King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo:
“Elizaveta nodded. ‘Most women suffer thorns for the sake of the flowers. But we who wield power adorn ourselves in flowers to hide the sting of our thorns.’
Be sweeter. Be gentler. Smile when you are suffering. Zoya had ignored these lessons, often to her detriment. She was all thorns” (387).  Also, I agree that Kuwei wasn't treated as very important. He is in King of Scars a bit, but again, not very important. And I think he was maybe there a little bit to cause drama, butSpoiler I really like Jesper and Wylan together, and I think it's sort of funny that the main 6 povs just paired up into couples, because on the back of the first one it says something like "They might pull off the worlds greatest heist, if they don't kill each other first." but they actually all fall in love! End of spoiler
oh my goodness oh my goodness ohhhh my goodnesssss--
okay so i was doing research on lesser known children's rhymes  for a novel i'm working on and i came across this one rhyme for telling the future that involves counting crows (yes i'm pretty sure that's where the band got their name. anyway.) and six crows represents wealth/thieves depending on the version of the rhyme.
so obviously i freaked out and rushed to tell you all
was this intentional?? i'm guessing it was because that's a huge coincidence otherwise - does anyone know if this was confirmed to be a reason for the book's title?
woah!!!!!!!!! That's so weird! I think it maybe wasn't intentional, because I looked up why the book was called that and it didn't say anything about that rhyme. Of course, it might have somehting to do with crows generally representing scavengers, which I did see something about, but still! That's really interesting.
Hey guys what's up I finished Crooked Kingdom yesterday and GUYS IT WAS SO GOOD
spoilers
my favorite ships are of course Kaz + Inej and Wylan + Jesper... they're so cute.  Like someone else said, the part where Kaz is trying to fix Inej's bandages was SO GOOD i was screaming
And then remember that scene at the end with Jesper, and Jesper was being Jesper, and then Wylan just hits us with that "down payment" line and i was like -- WOAH
My favorite parts of the book were probably the parts where the gang was just trying to interact with each other, and learn how to be around each other, and like the character development/bonding moments.  Oh, and the banter. Six of Crows's banter was NEXT LEVEL.
is the series good? i haven't wanted to watch it yet because i figured it would be bad and kinda ruin the book for me.
I've seen parts of the series, but not the whole thing and I it was just kind of... meh. It tries to combine SoC and SaB into the same series, so it's pretty confusing when it jumps back and forth. All of the characters portrayed are also just really old-looking and don't fit the characters at allll. It's also fairly mature—blood, violence, dark stuff, etc. (you probably know this but just another warning).
If you want to try it, go ahead, but I definitely wasn't attached to it.
AHHH HOW HAVE I NOT POSTED HERE YET?? i LOVE the grishaverse books and show. i would rank the series six of crows on top, then king of scars and then shadow and bone. i love all of them though. I was actually sturmhond for halloween this year :DD i can't pick a favorite character in six of crows because of how awesome all of them are, but sturmhond/nikolai is definitely my favorite from shadow and bone/king of scars.
