Any fantasy recommendatio...

Any fantasy recommendations that have little-to-no LGBT+ in them? i'm not a homophobe, i swear, but i don't know how my parents would feel about that.

you can still recommend books with LGBT+ (because i rather like them, hehe), but be sure to warn me :]

thank you so much!

(again, sorry if this comes off as homophobic--i'm not! i promise. my brother's aroace, and two of my friends are bi. i just don't know how my parents would feel about that. they're NOT homophobic and they believe that no matter WHAT or WHO or whatever sexuality you are, you deserve RESPECT, as we're ALL HUMAN!)

I have thousands :)

~Momo, by Michael Ende, because this makes it onto nearly all my book rec lists. It's wonderfully written and has amazing characters; it's about a girl called Momo who discovers that the sinister time-thieves are taking over the city - and she knows she has to stop them. (It was also in the Cricket Readers Recommend of this month's Cricket, but in case you didn't see it there here it is again)

~Time at the Top, by Edward Ormondroyd. A beautiful, magical book, about the boring March day when magic unexpectedly enters Susan Shaw's life, bringing with it the possibility of a new life for her - probably one of my favorite fantasy books ever.

~Any book by Edward Eager - Magic or Not, The Well-Wishers, Knight's Castle, etc. These are more humorous fantasy, but very fun reads - more about magic in daily life.

~The Chronicles of Narnia, ofc - if you haven't read them already, I HIGHLY recommend them.

Be back with more later :)

I second Edgar Eager (I particularly like Seven-Day Magic) and Narnia (I particularly like.. ALL OF THEMMM) :) I would second Momo if I could FIND IT IN THE LIBRARYYYY

also ALL the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett (they're odd and SO FUNNY and old (always a plus in my opinion) and have AWESOME characters.. they do have some Ig you could call it adult content though? Not lots, and not as in lots of bad words (unless you count made up bad words from made up languages), but more like.. idk love stuff. Overall, though, awesomeee magical romp, very enjoyable, highly recommend, you can start with any book but I recommend The Wee Free Men as an introduction. They're basically parodies of like Shakespeare and stuff but they're also books of their own btw)

You prob already know the Rick Riordan books (LGBTQIA+), Wings of Fire books (LGBTQIA+), and The Land of Stories books (haven't read in a while so I don't remember content), but still highly recommend all of those

Also The Golden Compass trilogy by Phil Pullman is AWESOMEEE but can get kinda dark..

The Menagerie (Tui T Sutherland and Kari Sutherland) and Half Upon a Time trilogy

The Blackwell Pages are awesomeee Norse mythology

The Twelve duology I also recommend

The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine is like Mark Twain- ACKK GTG MORE SOON!!

you can google a summary for all of these so I'm not going to write one :)

for some fantasy (pretty different from Amethyst's recs, slightly heavier + darker + more mature I think) (generally gets heavier/older/more mature as it goes on but not perfectly) (+ means seperate series by the same author):

Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan, Septiums Heap by Angie Sage, The Mistmantle Chronicles by M I. McAllister, Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman, The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann, Lockwood & Co. + The Bartimaes Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, Fablehaven + Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull, Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend, Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa, City Spies + Framed! by James Ponti, The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, The Hobbit + LOTR by J. R. R. Tolkien, Tiffany Aching by Terry Pratchett, The Checquy Files by Daniel O'Malley, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, The Alice Network by Kate Quinn, The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson, Anxious People (two lesbian main characters out of like 7 main characters but not marketed as queer) by Fredrik Backman.

and then for a little scifi because I AM A SCIFI NERD :D and it's kind of close to fantasy haha:

To Say Nothing of the Dog + The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke, The Diamond Age + Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, Dune by Frank Herbert.

if you don't want to wade through all those recs, my top from each list would be The Checquy Files, Six of Crows, the Mistmantle Chronicles, Septimus Heap, Nevermoor, To Say Nothing of the Dog, and The Kaiju Preservation Society.

Yess I second (why am I seconding who knows) SoC (AWESOME worldbuilding and characters, is LGBTQIA+ though), anything by Angie Sage (I LOVE Septimus Heap (was it a 7 book series? Don't remember), Todhunter Moon trilogy, and Twilight Hauntings duology (only've read the first book though), City Spies series+ Framed trilogy (idk if Fantasy though), TIFFANY ACHING READ ITTT, Enders Game (gets a bit.. well, eek, though), and Nevermoor!!!

also The Navigator (Eoin McNamee), The Collectors duology, Theo Tan and the Fox Spirit duology, The Silver Arrow duology, The Land of Roar trilogy(?), and MORE (but I think you've got enough for now) are REALLY GOOD!! :D

@Hex- oh my gosh you literally have almost all of my favorite book series here- (Ranger's Apprentice, Fablehaven, Septimus Heap, Six of Crows, The Unwanteds, Lockwood and Co) that's so cool :D

@parody, other than the ones Hex listed, I don't have many others but Skuduggery Pleasant is an awesome series (it's got 15 books split into two storylines and the second storyline does have bit of LGBTQ+ but it's not the main focus of the series) and also The Blackthorn Key. I only started this series a few days ago and i'm on the third book, but it's already SO GOOD! I cannot reccomend it enough. it's not quite fantasy (no magic or mythical creatures and stuff) but it has a similar feel to a fantasy book and i would still consider it of the adventure genre, with a bit of mystery mixed in. i only started it recently but it has definitely become one of my top 5 favorite book series probably.

YESS!!! I started Skulduggery Pleasant based on Fallen's recommendation on the what makes a book worth reading thread (thx Fallen!!), and Skulduggery Pleasant is awesome! Oc, I'm only just starting the second book rn, but the first was so good I finished in a day (though admittedly this isn't that impressive, but let's just pretend it is), I couldn't put it down! Also, the author is totally obsessed with himself, which is why I think he's so good at writing Skulduggery. It's very interesting.. :)

oh, and also I finished Nimona a few days ago, it was also pretty good (and pretty bloody too!), but it is very LGBTQIA+

Same thing with On A Sunbeam (though you can read On A Sunbeam online, it's awesome, cuz both this one and Nimona were originally webcomics, Nimona just took the site down, but On A Sunbeam didn't and it's so cool online!)

and Tidesong isn't LGBTQIA+ (I don't think.. well, at least not mainly), and also has stunning art and a good story!

and if I haven't recommended The Troubled Girls of Dragomir Academy yet... READ IT!!! :)

i know a few good fantasy books! almost all of them are lgbtq+ though.  only ones that were written a relatively long time ago are not.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (lgbtq+, 2 books with two other series set in the same universe) YA fiction.  This is sososososo good... it's set in a fantasy world in which certain people are Grisha, people with magic, who are prosecuted/murdered and stuff. A scientist develops a drug called jurda parem that causes Grisha to be thousands of times more powerful and totally dependant on the drug.  A gang of street rats led by genius Kaz Brekker are hired to find and kidnap the scientist from a neighboring country's prison so the secret and the recipe of the drug will never get out.  My favorite part of the books are character development and character interaction.  The characters are soooo good.

Wings of Fire by Tui T Sutherland (lgbtq+, three separate five-book series) Middle grade, though more violent than other middle grade books I've read.  Very good read.  The first series is my favorite.

A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab (lgbtq+, 3 books.) YA fiction.  I LOVE THIS BOOK AHHHH it takes place in London-- four separate paralell londons.  Main character Kell Maresh calls them Red London (his birth world, thriving, prosperous, happy, full of magic.) White London (violent, bloody, only scraps of magic left in this world.  the rulers are tyrannic and often violently murder civilians for fun.  civilians of all ages murder frequently for survival.)  Gray London (no magic-- most don't even believe in magic anymore.  also: that's our London!  It's the only one that takes place in London, England, albeit a long long time ago.) And once, there was Black London. Again, the characters are my favorite part of the book.

The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein (not lgbtq+, the Hobbit is one book and LotR is 3.) I'm actually not sure what age this book is for.  They're large books and a difficult read.  I really enjoyed them. Set in a fantasy version of medieval Europe with elves and halflings and orcs and dragons and quests and stuff, which seems genaric fantasy until you realize Tolkein was first.  His works are the stepping stone which all contemporary fantasy is based upon.

I really like The Land of Stories series and the Harry Potter series if you haven't read those yet. I also like the Keeper of the Lost Cities series too. A Tale of Magic is also a series that I really like it's by the same author as Land of Stories. I think both are LGBTQ+.
