Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Books, Books, Books
Okay, so I...

Okay, so I just blazed my way through a whole series in a week. Now I need book suggestions because I LOVE to read. Could you make a list of your favorite books and post it here? Mine are...

1. Harry Potter (Oh yeah)

2. Percy Jackson and the Olympians

3. Uglies

4. Eragon

5. Gregor the Overlander

6. The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness (A little strange and not that great, but still, I like it)

I know there're more but...*racks brain trying to remember* I...can't...think...straight. These books are not neccesarily in the right order for my favoritism because I don't really know which I like best. Oh! *suddenly remembers something she was missing*

7. Found

8. Stuff by Vivian Vande Velde

Please post here! I need books! Pppllleeeaaassseee!!! *makes begging motions and smiles charmingly* Anyone who posts here gets chocolate! (Bribes should work, shouldn't they?)

How about A Year Down Yonder, The Cricket in Times Square, and The Mozart Season. I love chocolate!

Here is my list:

1. Warriors by Erin Hunter (This is the best series ever! I totally adore it!)

2. The Unicorn Chronicles by (I think) Bruce Coville (This is almost as good as Warriors! Its a series, too.)

3. The Wiches of Worm (Awsome!)

4. If Wishes were Horses (This is a very sad book, but its so good, I read it like, five or six times! Not as good as Warriors, though.)

Hmmmm. . . I think thats all. If I think of any more, I will definitly tell you! Have an awsome day! Laughing

Oooh, there are more Vivian Vande Velde books? *has only read The Rumpelstiltskin Problem* Really? *squee* I loved that. :)

Recommendations, recommendations... well. Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy is great, as is anything by Ray Bradbury. 'ditionally, if you liked Vivian Vande Velde, you'd also probably like James Finn Garner...

And that's a very random selection from the Bookshelf of Amazing. ;)

@ Mary    Yeah, there are more Vivian Vande Velde books. There's...Now You See It, Heir Apparent, Never Trust a Dead Man (haven't read that one yet), A Well-Timed Enchantment. I can't think of any others right now. Hmm...Gotta check the library for those books you said. Thanks!

Thanks Olivia! I can't believe I forgot to put Warriors on my list! *slaps forehead* I knew I forgot something else! I'll probably check the library for the books you said. Only problem is...My town's library is TINY. It doesn't even have the whole Warriors series! *Smiles* My spam thing says "nybv". (That means that it agrees that books rock!)

All right. I'll respond to all the lists here and then post my own in a separate comment. Note: My list is really long. You can just ignore it if you want. The problem is, I can't choose between any of them! They're all too awesome!

So, anyway, Jessica's list:

1: Awesome, of course. It's on my own list, too.

2: I liked it a lot. I used to despise Percy and Thalia, but then I read part of the first book again, and they're really not as bad as I remembered. Actually, they're okay.

3: Never read it. I've heard good thing, but I don't think it's really my kind of series...

4: I love it, but I won't go into detail. I don't want to start another heated debate about it.  But, anyway, it's certainly on my list.

5: Never read it, but I might, soon.

6: I loved them! I thought I was the only one who knew about them! They're on my list (have you started to guess how long it must be?!)

7: Awesome. Also on my list.

8: What're they about?

Cricket's List: I've never read any. Isn't A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck? I've read a couple of really good books by that author...

Olivia's list:

1: A really good series. None of the books have quite made it on to my list of favorites, but Bluestar's Prophecy came really close.

2: I've heard good things about it. In fact, I've read a short story that took place in the same universe, and I liked it.

3-4: What're they about?

Time for my own list. I hope you don't mind the fact that it has over 100 books on it... *grins*

Yes, it's by Richard Peck.

@ Ima   8. (Vivian Vande Velde) Her books are kind of strange. Like there's this one where a girl finds a pair of glasses that enable her to see things that other people can't...She ends up meeting witches, elf people or whatever you want to call them, and her grandmother when she was like 18. Her books are weird, but I like them (don't ask me why).

What kind of chocolate do you want? *rumages around* I've got caramel filled, raspberry filled, cherry filled, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, mint cream...Yum.

Those books sound interesting. Weird, yes, but I think I would like them. I'll look for them.

I'm actually allergic to most chocolate, except for certain kinds of dark chocolate, but it seems like  you have about whatever kind of chocolateeither of us could think of, so... I'll have that kind of chocolate, but cherry-filled.

MMMM CHOKLIT. *om nom nom*

Ahem. After Discworld, these're in no particular order:

1. The Discworld Series (Sir Terry Pratchett). (*obligatory fangirl squeal(s) for Vetinari, Drumknott, Moist, Vimes, Susan, Death, and Granny Weatherwax*)

2. Les Miserables (Victor Hugo).

3. Dracula (Bram Stoker).

4. The Phantom of the Opera (Gaston Leroux).

5. Magician (Raymond E. Feist). Well, technically it's Magician: Apprentice and Magician: Master, but the copy I have is both of them and just Magician.

6. Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle).

7. Shakespeare.

8. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell (Susanna Clarke).

9. Lord of the Rings (JRR Tolkein).

10. The Chronicles of Narinia (C.S. Lewis).

11. Wicked (Gregory Maguire).

12. Watership Down (Richard Adams).

13. Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury).

14. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy" (Douglas Adams).

15. The Communist Manifesto (Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels). (Don't laugh. I read it recently and it's interesting).

You're welcome, Jessica! The other two books, If Wishes Were Horses and The Witches of Worm are really good. Here, I will type what is says about the book on the back of each book:

~The Witches of Worm~

Cats. Jessicas never liked them. Especially a skinny, ugly kitten that looks like a worm. Worm. Jessica wishes she'd never brought Worm home with her, because now he's making her do terrible things. She's sure she isn't imagining the evil voice coming from the cat, telling her to play mean tricks on people. But how can she explain what's happening? Witches. Jessica has read enough books to know Worm must be a witch's cat. He's cast a spell on her, but whom can she turn to? After all, no one will belive that Worm has bewitched her . . . or worse!

~If Wishes Were Horses~

All she wants is a horse. But at the height of the Great Depression, Lily knows her dream isn't possible. Constantly arguing with her older sister, Emily, doesn't make it any easier. In Lily's eye's, Emily is everyone's favorite. After all, Emily is allowed to have a cat. Only Great-Aunt Nell, visiting from India, understands Lily's problems--and takes her dreams seriously. But when disaster strikes the family and nothing is certain, Lily must face the fact that not even Aunt Nell can smooth away her troubles.

Well, those are them!
