Hunger Games RP
If this isn't...

If this isn't a good RP then I can change it to another one. Has anyone ever done one of these? If so then how do they usaully start? I was thinking that this could be the 58th Hunger Games. Please join!!!

I would do this, but I don't really know what the 58th Hunger Games is. Is it a book? Or could you explain what it is?

The Hunger Games is a book and a book series. There are three books in the series; The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The thing down below was on Wikipedia. I didn't know how to explain it without giving away things in the book.

The Hunger Games is a young adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. It was originally published on September 14, 2008. It is the first book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocaliptic world in the country of Panem where North America once stood. This is where a powerful government working in a central city called the Capitol
holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised
event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district
to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even
children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's power.

The time of the first book is right before the 74th Hunger Games. I chose the 58th Hunger Games for no particular reason. Somebody else would probably explain it better. I think for this RP you have a Hunger Games and your characters are the tributes from one of the twelve districts. I f you look it up on wikipedia it will tell you about the twelve districts and the Hunger Games but if you ever plan on reading the books the website has some spoilers.

I would be glad if you joined.

Hey, Elizabeth! I love the Hunger Games, and my best friend went nuts when I told her I liked them better than HP. So, I just kind of create my own character? What does RP stand for?

*squeals in delight* I looove The Hunger Games. Probably as much (or maybe a bit more) than HP. (I'm a dystopic-lit fan)

Okay, since I'm an u(umlaut)ber fan, I'll try to further explain THG.

And warning, I might insert some "spoilers" which I don't believe to be significant spoilers but might actually be. (Does that make sense?)

Anyways, so, like Elizabeth said, the Hunger Games is a televised program that the Capitol people take in and devour.

In a war-torn land that used to be North American, now known as Panem, there are 12 districts and the Capitol. There also used to be a District 13 but it was destroyed by the Capitol after starting an uprising. Also after the uprising, the Hunger Games were started so that the 12 remaining Districts would remember who's in power, which is the Capitol.

For the Hunger Games, which take place every year, each citizen of each district from the ages 12-18 must write their names on a slip of paper a certain number of times then put it into the Reaping Ball from which two names are chosen.

Also, to explain how many times you can enter your name, the 12-year-olds must, must, it's mandatory, write their names at least once. The 13YOs must enter their names twice, the 14YOs 3 times and so on.

However, if you and/or your family is starving (which is the case for most people in the Districts) you can enter your name extra times for tessera. Tessera is, as THG wiki says, "a year's supply of grain and oil for one person."

Now the Reaping. In the Reaping, the mayor, the District "escort", and sometimes a victor will be there, as well as several camera crews who will be filming the later-broadcasted Reaping.

The 12-18YOs will be herded into separate sections wherever the Reaping is  taking place. Then after the Panem anthem and the recitation of the history of Panem that includes District 13's rebellion and its squashing and why the Hunger Games were started, the escort (I'm pretty sure) will draw two names from the Reaping Ball. One name will be a boy's and the other, a girl's. The two people who were reaped are known as, "District Tributes".

Anyways, people can volunteer to take the chosen Tribute(')s (') place(s). In places like District 1, 2, and 4, volunteering is common as winning is a huge glory in those Districts. But in poorer Districts like District 12, "volunteers are pretty much extinct," quote Katniss Everdeen. (Those probably aren't the exact words, I can't remember them.)

If a person volunteers, normally they take the place of said Tribute, but that might not be the cast in District 1, 2, and 4.

Now in District 1, 2, and 4, the Tributes are known as "Career Tributes" because they train to become Tributes. Normally, training is illegal but no one follows that rule.

Ok, so that's how Tributes are chosen.

(I wrote this before almost the entire rest of the post.) Every 25 years they have the Quarter Quell where they mix things up a bit. In the 25th, the Districts had to elect their two tributes, and in the 50th (which Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss' and Peeta's mentor, won) there were twice as many tributes.

I think that's all for now, since this seems painstakingly long, especially for me.

WOW! I'm looking forward to reading the book. So, 12 is the poorest district? And what do you mean by the Katniss Everdeen quote? I would like to join but I haven't read the book...

@Elizabeth M.: Well, District 12 is one of the poorest Districts, I'm not sure if it's the poorest though... And by the Katniss quote, I meant that no one hardly volunteers to take a Tribute's place in the places that aren't Career Tribute Districts because volunteering is "pretty much a death sentence." (also a quote thingy, but that probably wasn't the exact wording)

Okay, I'd (try to) explain everything else but I'm in the middle of reading an HP fanfic that I really want to finish, and then I want to continue writing something so I won't post much now. :)

Thank you, Olive, for explaining. Will you join this RP?

Princess P., I hope that explains it well enough. Do you think that you know enough to join?

Elizabeth M, that would be great if you joined this RP too. I highly recommend this series if you dont mind people being killed in books.

I will put each district's industry so you know which is which. It will also help you to decide which one you would like your tribute to be from.

I think I will go ahead and make a character.

Name: Lina Trenore

Age: 15

District: 4; Fishing

Appearance: Honey-colored hair, sea-green eyes, 5'6", slender. Well muscled arms and legs from swimming. Tan skin from her district's bright sun.

Family: Father is mayor of district 4 so her family is pretty wealthy. She has two sisters and three brothers. I don't know what their names are though. One sister and two brothers older than her and the rest younger.

Here is the stuff about the districts. I took out a lot of stuff because it would give away a lot of the books. Please join!!!

District 1

District 1 makes special goods (luxury items) for the Capitol.
Children there take pride in competing in the Games, and are among the
group of tributes nicknamed "Careers," who band together in the Games
until they are forced to fight among themselves.

District 2

District 2 is a large district set in the Rocky Mountains not far
from the Capitol itself. In the midst of District 2 is a central
mountain known as "The Nut" which contains the command and control
apparatus for the Capitol's defenses. Originally District 2 specialized
only in mining and stone cutting but after the war it was also tasked
with production of nuclear weapons.

During the Dark Days, District 2 was the Capitol's staunchest ally
and after that rebellion was over, it received preferential treatment
from the Capitol. Its citizens are better fed and have better living
conditions.

District 3

District 3 specializes in electronics like televisions. Most of its
inhabitants work in factories and are very adept with electronics. Some
people think of District 3 as weak, but their intelligence can give
them an advantage.

District 4

District 4 fishes for the Capitol and is another wealthy and Career
district. It is said that District 4 has the most
"decent-looking" people.

District 5

District 5's industry is unknown. Inhabitants have mostly red hair and thin slim faces. They appear to have clever people in Disrict 5.

District 6

District 6's industry is not directly stated but is hinted to be
medicine and drugs.

District 7

District 7 specializes in lumber and paper.

District 8

District 8 specializes in textiles and has at least one factory
where Peacekeeper uniforms are made.

District 9

The industry for District 9 is unknown.

District 10

District 10 specializes in livestock.

District 11

District 11 specializes in agriculture. It is located somewhere in
the south and is very large. The people are housed in small shacks and
there is a harsh peace-keeping force. Common traits are dark skin and
brown eyes.

District 12

District 12 mines coal for the Capitol. It is located in the  Appalachian mountains,
and the district itself is split into two areas housing two distinct
social classes. "The Seam" is a slum where those who work in the coal
mines live, whereas the mercantile class lives in the town. Both
classes are easy to distinguish physically: those from the Seam
generally have dark hair, grey eyes and olive skin, and those from
merchant families usually have blond hair and blue eyes.

District 12 is very poor, and starvation is a major issue for the
citizens. Due the lack of food, the local Capitol authority, the Mayor
and Peacekeepers, often bend the extremely strict Panem laws.

District 13

Not going to say.

Okay, I think I'll try it. Tell me if this is good, okay?

Name: Karla Larchen

Age: 13

District: 12

Appearance: Dark brown hair, olive skin, grey eyes, skinny,

Family: Has eight younger siblings and four older. Used to have two more older siblings, but both were killed in the Hunger games.  Father, mother, and siblings all work in the mines.

That's great, but they didn't start mining until 18; that's why district 12 had so few victors because they didn't start their districts trade young like the other districts did therefore not learning valuable skills. I think we should wait for a few other people before we start. Please Join!!!!!!!!!

Name: Emmeline "Emma" Stoddard

Age: 14

District: 6 (Medicine and drugs, I known it's not officially but can it be for this RP? Please?)

Appearance: Short, skinny (From being underfed which is probably the case for the people in most districts), mousy brown hair, dark grey eyes, pointy nose and long fingers.

Family: She has two little sisters and two little brothers. Both her parents work in the [place where they make medicine and drugs] so she has to stay home and take care of her siblings. Luckily, her parents found some old school textbooks which they gave to Emma for her education.

Sounds cool! Caln I join? Anyway, I'll make myself a character.

Name: Minerva Jird

Age: 14

District: 3; electronics

Appearance: Small, thin, very short black hair, mismatched eyes: one gray and one green, thin face

Family & History: She has a little brother (11), and a mother (43), who works at a factory. Her father died several years ago in a accident.

You can both join. Olive, it's okay to use that industry.

Just to let all of you know, your characters will probably die so if they do just get another one. There can only be one victor.

@Elizabeth D, I don’t mind
my character dieing. A good dramatic death part is always a good read.
