It is June 17, 2011, 8:22 PM (EST) right now and the announcement will be made in 5 days, 10 hours, 37 minutes, and a number of seconds.

Oh! It's 8:23 now. So the announcement will be made in 5 days, 10 hours, and 36 minutes.

Anyways, from the look of the website, I think it might be an interactive Potterverse website. Like, um... Poptropica and Webkinz. (I can't come up with anything else) It's 8:25 now. So excited! And the announcement is being made *counts* on the day after my piano exam I think. And my second-last day of school! So, um, I think the announcement's being made on: *counts and checks website* June 23 at 10:00 AM (EST). I think. Eep!

Dude, I just want an encyclopaedia. But apparently it's not a book. Sadface.

I definitely don't want another fansite. We've already got a plethora; new fansites are not something we need.

The font is oddly mechanical, isn't it?

Gah, can't wait for the announcement!

I agree. I'll be quite disappointed if it's just a fansite. It could be an online encyclopedia, but I don't think that's likely. JKR said that if she wrote one, it would be for charity. She's a caring person--if she goes to the trouble of writing an entire book without making any money from it, and she said it would be for charity, I think it will be for charity and not for free. Besides, I really prefer physical books to online books.

It might be an interactive site, like Olive said. The pictures looked like that sort of general thing. That would be great if it's done well. Of course, there are all sorts of ways it would be HORRIBLY... unsatisfying, if it's an interactive RPG-type thing, but I trust JKR to do whatever it is really well. There are also plenty of ways it could go right--talking portraits, yay! But then again, there are already Potter-simulating online games. I'm going to a virtual Hogwarts next year, although it unfortunately won't count as my actual school (Not fair! They do teach real things, from Latin to Oceanology! Just not enough to be a school. Sigh). Honestly, I'll probably be ecstatic and thrilled no matter what it is, if it isn't a fansite. But it could be anything! It could be a board game for all we know, or even a hat (that would be SO disappointing)! This is so frustrating! I can't wait to find out!!!

Wait a moment... I'm trying to remember JKR's exact quote, and I think she might have said 'It won't be a printed book with characters and dialogue." If memory serves, it could be an encyclopedia...?! I must go check before I get too excited!!

...No, I was wrong. I think. Anyway, there's also a page for it on a trademark site that says (PROBABLE SPOILER ALERT BUT JO COULD JUST BE FOOLING US), "Providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network; providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest; providing on-line communications links which transfer the web site user to other local and global web pages; providing on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest." That sounds like a website, then. I just hope it's an RPG or something and not a fansite! But someone at Leaky saw it early (LUCKY!) and called it "one of the most amazing, engaging and breathtaking additions to this fandom imaginable". Yay!

Have any of you seen the pictures? They look like awesome website potential. Wow, I feel like I' living back when people were hunting for cluesd to the next Potter book... Oh, how I wish I'd been an active fandom member at the time...

Last night, my aunt told me about the site, and I went and looked it up.  Oh my goodness, I'm soo excited!!  I would love it it was an encyclopedia...  Only 4 more days until we find out!  According to The Telegraph, "it is rumoured that the interactive site will be a meeting place for fans offering games, a Harry Potter encyclopaedia, readings by Stephen Fry and competitions.  Fans will also be able to buy the books."  Anyway, I'll will be checking the site obsessively from now until the 23nd. :)

Apparently Warner Bros. owns the name, "Pottermore". The trademark was registered as:

"Providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network; providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest; providing on-line communications links which transfer the web site user to other local and global web pages; providing on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest."

Yup.

Yes, I mentioned that. If not for the awesome pictures that made it look like there was an encyclopedia in addition to the website which made it 2-in-one and even better and the possibility that there'll also be some MMORPG things, which would be 3-in-1, I'd be disappointed. As it is, I'm ecstatic. I knew she wouldn't disappoint us, no matter what it was. I mean, maybe she'll disappoint one or 2 people, but not many and almost definitely not anyone I know.

Oh my my my my!!!! I heard about this, too! I have no idea what it's about, though. Someone said it was bought by Warner Bros. a few years ago and is just going to be a money maker. But no one really knows yet. The 'opening' of the website I guess you would say is going to be this Wednesday at 7:00 A.M. I am so going to wake up.

I just saw some screenshots! And one says, "Take a writing tutorial. Sit back and read stories written by other wizards or even write your own." Then there are two buttons that say, "Tutorials" and "Writing Competition". Also, in two screenshots, at the top is a bar that says, "Home" then "Encyclopaedia" (Yay!) then "Pottercast" then "Community" then "Store" then "Login" and finally "Search". The Login part means that it will probably be a virtual Potterverse! Yay!

According to an article in the Guardian called "Harry Potter to live on in internet treasure hunt game" by Alexandra Topping (Is it all right that I quote a published article if I mention who said it, Admin?), "It is thought Rowling's new project, due to be officially launched on Thursday, will be a Potter-based treasure hunt entitled Pottermore, after an apparently secret memo emerged.

The new project is reportedly an online game that gives users clues which will lead them to prizes hidden in the real world. Aspiring wizards the world over can hope to find an undisclosed number of magic wands stashed throughout the UK and US, and possibly other countries. It is not yet clear if the treasure hunt is Pottermore itself or a marketing drive for another product, and details about the game remain hazy."

That would fit all the clues we've seen, so I think this is it!!

Yes, Ima. Thank you for listing the source of the quote.
