@ S.E.:

No worries, I actually thought the same thing once! Someone recommended "Anything by Jessica Day George" and I wondered, "Since when did JDG write a book called Anything???" Then I realized and I was like "......"

@ Ivy:

I'd start with The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown. They are both awesome fantasy stories with wonderful heroines and quite indicative of McKinley's writing style (which I love, though I've heard some people find it kind of...dated). Beauty, Rose Daughter and Spindle's End are whimsical, imaginative retellings of fairy tales (Beauty and the Beast on the first two and Sleeping Beauty for the third). Spindle's End is a pretty long novel (it feels long because the plot could be thicker) but has a wonderful fairy-tale atmosphere. Pegasus is also really enjoyable, but it has an awful cliffhanger and the sequel's not coming out for another year! I've been suffering for ages in waiting for it (the release date has been pushed back twice). The only book of hers I wasn't wowed by was Dragonhaven. She can't write male protagonists very well. I hope you like her books; she's my favorite author!

The books in the Lockwood & co. series. I love them, though I only know one person who read them-- and they were the person I recommended them to . . .

They are fantastic! They are hilarious, too. Although they can be creepy at times, it's balanced perfectly and not over-the-top or all that morbid. (And if you read and liked Sherlock Holmes, I'm sure it's totally fine.)
