Camp NaNoWriMo

Camp NaNoWriMo

So. I have never done anything like this before, but, erm, I'm thinking of joining Camp NaNoWriMo.

I decided to look into it because it is one of the very few sites the Admins will let us refer to in our posts. I looked at the Terms and Conditions, About, and Codes of Conduct, and on paper it looks very good, and quite fun.

But I know there are quite a few of you on here participating, and I was wondering . . . have you ever run into anything terribly inappropriate on Nano? You, obviously, don't have to post what it is (this is CB, we don't want inappropriate stuff here, either! *shakes fist*) but I would like to be warned if there are people there in the habit of cursing profanely, etc.

From what I understand, you make an account, sign in, and then you either work on a novel, with a goal of a word count, or you embark on some other project. You can also use the site to count the words in your piece of writing, correct?

There are cabins of writers that you can join, and share critiques and offer advice with your cabinmates over what you/they have written, too, I  . . . think?

Also, from what I understand, there is no deadline for camp. Is that right?

So I suppose what I'm asking is if it is an environment free of lewd content, in the opinion of my fellow CBers. Also, if any of you have Nano accounts, or cabins open, and you don't mind . . . I'd like to know some people on there . . . . *looks sheepish*

Anywho, thanks!

Yay! You totally should, Camp NaNoWriMo is a blast, and totally worth it!

I completely understand your concerns, I have the same ones about every site I join, as does my mom. We both agreed that NaNo is great and safe. I've never run into anything inappropriate, and everyone I've talked to is really nice. No profanity, no inappropriate topics, no bullying. Just writers coming together to hang and discuss varying topics!

Camp NaNo takes place during April and (I think) July. You join a cabin, set a word goal, and yes, it can be either a novel, short stories, or varying other works you wish to do. It doesn't necessarily count your words for you, but you log in how many you've written and it will keep track of how well you're doing. During the last week it will allow you to submit your work to determine if you've made your goal. If so, you win! But the point is really winning, it's just sitting down and finally writing that novel. Word count and winning jut gives you a goal and insentive.

Yes, if you join a cabin, it will allow you to chat with other writers.

No deadline for joining, no, but the event itself goes on as said above in April and July. In November, there's the official Nation Novel Writing Month, and if you're signed up through Camp your a member there too.

But yes, to the answer of the over all question, NaNo and Camp NaNo are clean and fun and well worth it! I'm on there (obviously) and I'm Anne Shirley101. You can message me if you like once you join and ask me any questions you may have.

I hope you join!

Thanks, BHR! I appreciate the info. =)

I have indeed joined Nano, thanks to your assurances about it's kid-friendly-ness, and am under the pseudonym Robin Piper.

(Admins, in case you have any qualms about posting what appears to be a full name; rest assured it is most definitely not mine. A pseudonym, completely.)

Thanks so much!

What BHR said pretty much summed up Nano pretty well, and it's really a fun and exciting thing to try.

My Nano name is dancingshoes and if you'd like to ever like to message me, I'd be happy to hear from you!
