Tornado Warnings!!!!!

Tornado Warnings!!!!!

Today, I was talking to my friend on the phone and she said that her mom told her that there were tornados heading towards us! To some of you, this probably isn't that exciting, but I live in Massachusetts and we never really get tornados around here. My mom said that she had never seen one and she's lived in MA for just about her whole life.

So I completely freaked out. We had to go pick up take out  from a Thai food restraunt in a town very close to where my friend said there was a tornado. On the way we heared a weather alert for the towns near where my cousins live which is only about 45 minutes away from us. We're safe now and after watching the weather, we found out that the place where tornados were most likely to happen was in the towns right below us. We know at least 4 people that I can think of that live where that is happening.

Anyway, mostly the only reason that I wrote all this was that I was really scared and I needed to tell someone other than my family and best friend.

Well, tomorrow it should be pretty interesting at school. Unless no one wants to talk about scary weather situations..............

I can't really relate to you. We live under mountains and tornados never get over them. But I hope those 4 people you know will be okay! Right now, we're getting some big-ish thunderstorms and that's it.

top top top

We were fine in the end and we didn't get a drop of rain until about 9:45 pm when we had a minute long downpour. I was really scared until we watched the weather for a while and found out that it was going to miss us. There were warnings that said to take shelter in the closest safe place right away in towns right near where my cousins live, so they had more reason to be scared than I did. I'm pretty sure it said: If you are in___________, _______, or ____________, don't wait until you see tornados. Take shelter now in a sturdy building away from windows. Get as many walls between you and the storm as you can. Take shelter now. My mom said that she had heard warnings but had never heard: take shelter now!

Once, where l live, there was a "Tornado watch" but much to my dismay, there was none. l wasn't frightened at all, partly because l didn't really believe that there would be one.

On the subject of weather, there was once a very small earthquake. It didn't do any damage.

Yes, I remember when I lived in California, there was a tiny earthquake. It was weird.

Yeah! There was a tornado watch in my area, too. And in movies, when the sky gets all green and stuff, that's what it looked like. Seriously. And it was humid, and it was just awful.

Dragonrider, do you live in the Greater Boston Area? I do, and if you do then there could be a tornado headed towards me as well.

Oh that's scary! Where I live, tornado warnings are fairly common, but I know how scary it is. At least you and your family are okay!

We got a tornado warning here too a few days ago- which is strange, because I don't live in Massachussets. We were fine, although a tornado touched down in a town near us.

I live south of Boston, about an hour away.

@Katie M. What state are you in? My friend said that her cousins in Pennsylvania were getting warnings too.

Scary. Where I live, we get maybe a warning and a handful of tornado watches a year. This year was a bad one, and though we never had a real tornado, we got so many tornado watches and flash flood warnings. The only time we ever got anything really close was one a few blocks away from us - there were shingles all over the road and insulation, but it only made us lose power for a day or less. That reassures me, because it struck within three blocks from us and our house wasn't affected at all. Then again, it was just barely a tornado, but still. Don't worry - they have to get quite close to you to hurt very much.

That was the first time I had ever heard a warning.

@Dragonrider: I'm not allowed to say exactly where I am, but I'm in the Wisconsin/Ohio/Michigan area.

In Nevada, where I live, we don't get tornadoes, per se, but we do sometimes get mild dust storms around the area.

I live near the Adirondack mountains, so, yeah, no tornadoes... But a few weeks ago there was a tornado watch for my area. Nothing happened, obviously, since tornadoes can't travel over hills, but everyone was pretty confused.
