Don't worry, I'm

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Don't worry, I'm

Don't worry, I'm not leaving. (Although I'm not sure how many people would actually care if I did.)

But I'm considering it. This is not the chatterbox I used to know. This is not the place that I would check every morning and read new threads and eagerly await the next RP or ski lodge or whatever.

This has just sort of become a little corner of the internet for kids (and yes, I mean KIDS) who have nothing else to do. There's so many new people joining, I can't even remember their names. And frankly, I don't know if I want to.

I feel like a bad person for saying these things about the "newbies," about the people who will never experience what the chatterbox used to be, but I have to. It's the truth, and to quote St. Owl, truths can be terrible.

All these new people and RPs with two-paragraph posts and poor spelling / grammar and everyone is leaving and Danie's depressed and I'M depressed and this is no longer fun. I come on this website every day now, not because I really want to, but because I feel like it's my duty to.

The chatterbox is no longer fun.

Something has to change and something has to change soon. I don't know what it is, and sorry if I sound like a hypocrite for complaining about something I don't even know about, but something has to change. Soon.

Soon.

Because otherwise, you're going to lose another person. (Guess who.) I don't want to leave, but I will. I'll take a long, long break, and maybe when (or if) I come back, everything will be magically made better. Doubtful, though.

And that's assuming this website even exists in a year or so. We might just make this place crash and burn like an airship with a giant hole in the side. That's doubtful too, but I think the odds are greater.

It's easier for something to get worse than to get better.

I think we can make it get better, though. I just don't know how. I don't think anyone knows how. But there has to be some globally optimal solution that does not involve more people leaving.

I sure hope we can find it in time.

I know. But the thing is, the newbies and middleies dont know what the old Cb was like. If they don't know it, they can't bring it back. All the old people who do know what its like, are leaving because they think its hopeless.

So don't leave.

You cant expect little kids to be left on the earth and to build something out of nothing. They have to learn from someone, but if there is no one to teach? What is there to learn? You can't hand someone a musical instrument and expect them to suddenly be a professional.

And you can't keep people from joining the CB; we are supposed to welcome new people.

But I do understand.

The CB is an unorganized mess.

And we need to fix it.

But we can't return it to what is was without the people who actually know what that is.

It's insane!

Just as insane as the adults wanting the old America and leaving, possibly to return to see if it gets better. Just leaving the kids and expecting them to find out what it was in the past!

So don't leave!

Stay! Help build up and untie this giant knot of strings!

Yeah, alright...

I guess I can see it like that.

But I'd like to stress that I am a pessimist.

And at this point, it almost feels like the giant knot of strings is too big and too strong and too tangled to be unraveled again.

I would care if you left HAB. Here comes a rant.

CB is definitely not the same as it was in 2014 and earlier. New people have joined ,old CBers have left. All you old CBers leaving does not help the matter. I'm guessing the reason you old CBers are leaving is because most old CBers are leaving and the CB is starting to get overwhelming, but think about this. You're sad when an old CBer or close CBer friend leaves, you feel like there's no more CBers you new from the begging so you leave. That's not helping the matter. It's like a chain of leaving CBers. One leaves, you're sad so you leave, another CBer leaves their sad that you left. And so forth. If you want old CBers to stay we have to band together, facing tough times on the CB and feeling good when it's resolved. We can't just leave one another. New CBers join, we can't tell them they can't join, this CB is for ALL cricket lovers. Even bad spellers. I'm not a perfect speller. To be truthful, I'm a TERRIBLE speller. Some CBers will leave(we don't stay 14 forever):) Think how new CBers must feel with us complaining about the old CBers leaving, and how CB is now not perfect. They must feel pretty bad(I would). This will one day be their old CB that they know. Sorry if this sounds rude, but I think what I'm saying must be heard. Some of you might turn against me. Please don't. You are ALL great CBers NEW or OLD.

I don't want you to leave, HAB.

Well, what can we do about this problem? Can we restart old games? Stop starting new RPs for a while?

The CB I joined, (about a year and a half ago) had older, more mature CBers. Now, I am not saying that y'all on here are immature, but let's be honest. We are, to some extent. The number of older CBers has gradually dwindled down to a select few.

But what about them made the CB more enjoyable? How can we be like them? I don't think asking ourselves 'would SC or BHR have posted something like this?' would help much, but if we could just watch ourselves and pay more attention to our posts and how we phrase them.

What are your ideas about fixing this?

I would care a lot if you left, HAB. Even if you promised you would only be gone for a while, I would worry more and more each day that you would never come back.

I know the CB is changing, although I don't know what the "old CB" was like. I don't think the "newbies" should be blamed for this. It's not exactly their fault that the CB is like this. The people that join now are just a much more crazy and energetic generation of CBers. I think that if the people that have been here for at least a few months stay on, then we can show the "newbies" what to do, and over time, things will turn out OK. When I first joined there were posts all over the place about Brookeira's impersonation, that I didn't understand at all, so I just didn't post on them, I clicked around until I found some more happy, easy to understand threads. After a few days, my love for the CB grew and I was posting nonstop. If we make a few more happier threads, like games and places to just talk, instead of just gloomy ones like "I'm leaving" and "the CB is boring" then maybe the "newbies" will stay long enough to learn from us. I agree that the CB was getting crazy, but we need that now. Right now this is more of a gloomy place with an overloaded Inkwell. Please don't go. If we leave the new CBers to explore the depths of the CB alone, it may crash and burn. The more of us that stay, the faster the CB will regrow and improve. I'm going to come up with a game or something and try to help cheer this place up.

You guys have already seen my views on this, and I've been keeping kind of quiet.

But here goes.

I can understand the older CBers now, from the last CBer War. It went from "posts that take five minutes to read" to "posts that take two minutes to read," and they were upset by that. Now it's gone from "posts that take two minutes to read" to "posts that take two seconds to read."

I will admit, yes, I am upset by this. But I don't think leaving is the answer either.

I agree with Jarvis and Katydid on this count. If we are to fix this, we need to help the newbies. Because we don't want them leaving, and we don't want the older CBers leaving either.

I saw the "writing classes" thread. That was a good idea.

Just reading over others' posts is a good idea too!

Young RPers just have to remember that everything they write has to correspond with what their RP partners do. That's rule number one, the Golden Rule. Don't try to take control of another's charrie. It's tough sometimes, I know, because if you don't get into a conversation with another character in one post, it will be two paragraphs. So do it a little, but don't make the characters do anything very specific, like making a decision: just more like, "Hey! Who are you?"

If the character is shy, and that was said in the profile, then you might say, "Um, I-I'm Amber."

If the character is bold and hot-headed, you might make them say "Who are you?" or "Why would you ask?"

And if the character is friendly and sociable, you might make them say, "Oh, hello! I'm Amber! Nice to meet you!"

Remember: if in doubt, don't write it.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry... I started writing about writing. XD  That's besides the point. Sorry about that.

But the things I'm trying to say can be summed up here:

-No more people should leave. It just tears the CB up even more.

-"Newbies" are still learning. Help them learn.

And my last statement is: H.A.B., OF COURSE I WILL MISS YOU! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! You're such a great person! A core CBer! I don't see why anyone couldn't miss you!

Well... peace, love, and frogs.

I don't visit the CB very often, but each time I do, it's with increasing dismay. This used to be a place where...I don't know, I felt safe. Now it's different. Somehow, it's different. We need to sit down and teach what it used to be like. In fact, I'm going to do something right now...

P.S.

Hi Admins! Remember me? The one who left then came back? Hi! This just a big shout out to you for everything you do for us each and every day.

Yes, I remember you, Young Writer. Welcome back!
