First of all, I'm writing this on the CaC simply because there seem to be a might too many comments on the DtE. I just don't want to bump more active threads onto the second page.
But what I really want to say is stuff I haven't really been saying on Brook's thread (and what I have been saying there hasn't helped anyone in the slightest, tbh, so I should probably stop talking for the sake of talking). I think things are going a little topsy-turvy. I sense a tip on the edge of the CB Scale of Peace.
AKA, I sense that if we don't agree on something very soon, there may be another "War."
You have to admit there's an oncoming storm. There's a lot of confusion on Brook's thread, and a bit of agression (although I'm not pointing fingers). Now Abi's gotten rid of Critic, Hobbes, and Mandy, which I'm pretty sure none of us (including her) wanted. I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but my radar's going crazy.
Therefore, here's this thread.
NUMBER ONE RULE, before I get started. THERE WILL BE NO NAME-CALLING, NO AGRESSIVE WORDS (ie "stupid," "dumb," or "rude"), AND NO ARGUEMENTS! This is a diplomatic thread. I don't want any agressiveness going on, because that just makes things worse.
I want this to be the thread that usually resolves a war: a discussion thread. Obviously a lot of people aren't happy with Brook's "3+" rule. But a lot of people seem to agree with the "no 'stereotype AEs'" rule. Here's an opportunity to discuss-- in a civilized manner-- exactly what we think these "AE Rules" should be. I don't want another war, and I don't think any of you do, either. If we can come to an agreement before this spirals out of control, we won't have one.
So, please! Speak. Tell us exactly what you think, but word it POLITELY. If you disagree with someone's opinion, you may talk with them about it, but POLITELY. As I say, this is diplomatic.
What are your opinions on this matter? Here are a few questions, if you aren't sure what to say:
1. Do you agree that we should only have two or less AEs? If so, why? If not, what should be the limit, if any?
2. What is your opinion on stereotype AEs? How do you think we can change this?

Again, the questions are completely optional, and just there to help you out.
So. . . conclusions! Please speak your opinions in a civilized manner. It doesn't matter if you just don't want a 3+ limit but you don't have another idea, or that's the only thing you've thought of-- speak! Every opinion counts. I like to think of the CB as a great big democracy, or maybe some sort of council, and this is a state of emergency.

I think we should have as many AE's as people want. I do not think there should be limits because the point of an AE is to express another personality. I also think that they are the property of those who make them and I don't think other people should be able to make others get rid of them.They are just a fun thing many people do, although I don't.

I don't know exactly what a stereotype AE is...

a) NEVER make another AE without first checking to see "how
would this HELP the Chatterbox, not just myself" and B) NEVER START
ANOTHER TWO-OR-THREE-OR-WHATEVER SIDED AE WAR, MP AND BAE ARE NOT COMING
BACK.
I don't agree with (a) but I can see why she put that; I don't care for crazy lunatic AE's that scream all the time, but I don't think it's my choice or my buisness if that is the AE someone wants.

I only want to add that I meant all this in a friendly way and hope no offense was taken. I also want to add that if people have different views than me, that is fine and I would like to see/discuss this with you, calmly, as St. Owl asks.

Sorry, Daisy! I should have made 3 more clear. I meant these:
Have your AEs. . .
Made someone laugh?
Made someone smile?
Improved the atmosphere of the Chatterbox?
Were not created because you wanted an excuse to write in a certain way?
(Just because you want to write an annoying/vain/rude/whatever
character does not mean you should make them a permanent AE)?
Are not just one-dimensional copies of me?
Are well-developed?

@St. Owl: Thanks for making this, but really the only rules that I think we should have are a) try to make your AE help the CB's atmosphere and b)no wars. The criteria that Masked Piester said are really just suggestions.

I'm not sure that there ARE any stereotypical AEs, so...

No. I doubt that any one AE can improve the CB, and besides, some of our AEs just don't make people laugh! Like especially if you're new.

Okay, I'm expanding on my post I put under Brook's thread.
1. 5 AE's should be the limit for a CBer to have. They should have different personalities. Anymore AE's and it gets confusing and not-fun.
2. I didn't even understand what Brook meant about a copy-off. Thanks for explaining. Anyhow, I think it's fine to have similiar AE's, ONLY if they're different in personality. (for example, having a dragon AE is fine if another CBer has a dragon, but not fine if they both like to obsessively throw pies [JUST AN EXAMPLE]).
3. I think AE's should be fun, not specifically make someone laugh. They should not be exact copies, but it's fine if an AE wants to throw pies around. I think ALL AE's are already well-developed. I think the reason we should make AE's is to let out a side we usually don't have (for example, our crazy side, our funny sarcastic side, etc)
4. I used to be kinda afraid to show that I have a different opinion against a very close friend, but now I'm really not anymore. I've seen that the CB has many different opinions, and we show them, d yet we still love each other. So, thanks for that.

Bta, I think a AE-sided blah blah war is fine, if we don't go overboard.
Of course, my defintion of overboard is probablu quite different than others, and I'm very sensitive when it comes to "insult" jokes.
I won't be joining any war, for that reason and others.

I think having an outright limit won't work, but I know when people have too many AEs and some how expect me to keep track of the miniscule differences between their pie throwers and pie chuckers, I throw up my hands in annoyance.

Create AEs slowly. See if you notice something specific in your writing. Try and really get to know them. Don't make an AE on a whim. If you make an AE really flesh it out and only make it be crazy just part of the time.

I definitely agree with B, and am kind of on the fence with A. I think MP meant well but the way she phrased it we're going to just end up having more wars...

I think a CBer should only have as many AEs as she/he can control and that have diverse personalities.

I think we can spend more time developing our AEs as characters with personalities so they're as diverse as the CBers themselves.

Many CBers already have 3 AEs. Telling to kill one off because of a rule that wasn't inforced/didn't exist is kind of. . . presumptuous? In my opinion, I think three should be the max.

There a bunch of AEs that are so similar: The generic blob of pie-throwing insanity. I think that AEs are more fun to write for and to read about when they are unique. Take your time to develop their personalities and create a creative appearance. Don't make an AE just for the sake of it or because everyone else is doing it. That was the hugest mistake I ever made when I created Critic A. Later on, I took more time to refine her personality, which I wish I had done before I introduced her.
3. Do you agree with Masked Piester's AE Criteria?
For the most part, yes, but some of them are kind of hard to judge for oneself. How are we to know if they cause someone a laugh or a smile? If I find my AEs funny, it's usually only my warped sense of humor that hazards a giggle. So, I'm not sure.
4. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I have recently removed all of my AEs from CB for the time being, because, having three AEs, I did not want to kill off any one of them to fit the rule because I love them all so much. So now I went from three to zero.
They're coming back. Not sure when.

No. If we limit the Æs at 2, Abi, for one, will have to kill off Mandy, Critic A, or Hobbes, which she just said she's not willing to do... The limit should be 3.

They aren't bad, but they are mainstream. If you have 3 Æs, make sure they aren't all the same. The ones everyone like best are different from the rest, it seems. (Hêmín, 8-Piece, MewFour, Fú-dí-mó, etc.)

Not really. You only really know if an Æ is funny if people say so, which doesn't seem common here.
4. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
My Æ, Hype, is being pulled out for the time being. I need time to refine him, spin him a new personality, and re-enter him. Iona will stay, because she's not that insane, being slightly based off my baby sister. Chad the CAPTCHA will stay, too. But Hype was just...... too mainstream. He will return, though, under the same name. And you guys are really important to me, and you will be for a long time.
