Dear Admins, Editors,

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Dear Admins, Editors,

Dear Admins, Editors, and CBers:

I am considering starting a magazine. Seeing that Cricket is so successful, I figured that the Editors would be quite the experts on magazines. I was wondering if any of you could give me tips on titles, content, hiring, and paying, among other things.

I was thinking that to start, if I was going to do a literature magazine, I would ask the more author-ish CBers like Cho, Mei-xue, Shadow Dragon, and Curio if they wanted to write/submit stories for it.

That's all I have for now, thanks for reading!

Brainstorm titles, content, and other ideas with a few creative friends/people who love reading and literature like you do. Start with one issue, then review it and make changes, if needed, as you go. Investigate starting online first to avoid the added cost of paper, printing, and distribution. Or start at your school. Does your school have a literary magazine? If so, get experience working on it. If not, then start one. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help! I'm starting at a new school this year (because I moved) so I have no idea what programs they have. I guess I'll see.

I currently don't know anyone that loves literature and writing aside from CBers and my sister, but I don't think she'll want to help me on this. She's driven on scorning anything I like that she doesn't. I think I'll plan out an issue, then do some research to see if it's unique and not too similar to other magazines. My dad says I'll need to advertise as well, so I might use YouTube or Tumblr or something for that.

When I publish it, would you let me post its title here?

I don't see why we wouldn't, but I'd need to check with our editors. We might want to see the issue first. Yes, marketing is necessary.

Okay, cool. I'll definitely send it in (if I find out how; an email address would be helpful) to the editors. I think it would be for readers in the age range of about 10-14/15.

When you have something ready, you can inquire via cricket@cricketmagkids.com. We can't promise we'll have time to review it.

I am started a magazine a few weeks ago. It's not a big deal though. It's 16 small pages and comes out once per week. It's about Animal Jam . . .

It's more of a blog, I should say. People don't pay for it, and I just put up each issue on my website (if you ask what the mag is call I won't tell you >:D )

If you're looking for some good desgn programs, I highly suggest Canva. It's free and pretty easy. For free photo editors, I'd do PicMonkey or LunaPic.

I highly suggest starting on each issue before it actually comes ot, so that way you're not rushed at the end and end up making typos and having the magazine come out late. It's a bit time-consuming, but fun. If you make a good design and distribute right, you'll get lots of readers I think.

I'm also honored that you'd mention me! I'd totally write stories for it.

I'd probably nhave to use my real name, though. . . I'll ask my mom if I can reveal my real name. Just my first name, and maybe middle or last initial. Admin, do you allow middle names? If not, middle initials?

You are allowed to post first names and initials. We think that middle names are alright. ~ Admin

You don't need to reveal anything if you aren't comfortable doing it. And I still don't know what I'm going to do for the magazine, but I'll certainly tell you when you can help!

Wonderful idea, Scylla! Once you have the magazine ready to start - and want to put poetry in - I could always submit poems to help you. Good luck, I know it will be great!

@Novelist, yours sounds wonderful as well! BunnyLoves and my other siblings play Animal Jam and love it. And you have a website? Is it a blog, or a book website, or.. or what? If you mind tellling me, that is.

I used to want to start a magazine! It was going to be sort of like Cricket, you know, a literature magazine. But I decided I wanted to do something else instead. Anyway, that's so cool that you're going to start a magazine!!!

Oh, nice, very good idea!

If you want suggestions....

Start it as an online blog/website. Google has Blogger, a platform for blogs, or there's other website platforms. You could code your website, but l have no idea how it works l think it's very difficult. Plus, it's free and relatively easy to do. You can do all of it on your own.

Anyways, l would be very happy to write something for your magazine :) My YWP NaNo username is Starry Flyet if you wish to get a hold of me.

Thanks! I need to research how to get a magazine up and running, because I'm really lost. And remember we're buddies on NaNo? I'm twinkleberry336, if you can't recall.

Ah well, the website is only for my magazine, if you see.

Wait what. Why with me saying Ah a bunch all of a sudden. Okay fine. Hpw can I say no the CBers?

Under google or any other search engine, type in "The Chronicles of Jamaa magazine." If you use a different search thingy, you may have to sift through several pages. It 100% safe.

If you don't play AJ don't look at it or I will keel over from embarrassment
