Irish Dancing Thread!

Irish Dancing Thread!

So I am Kimilene on SailHaven at Kyngdom, and I recently went to a feis*. I got a response from Olympia, who also does Irish Dance. Here is a thread all about it!

So, in answers to your questions:

Yes we have levels. I am in the champs** class in my school, but only in Prizewinner competition levels. I only need my Hornpipe, then I will be Prelimb though. Very happy!

No, I went to a local feis. Irish Channel Feis/IrishFest. It's a casual(NO WIG=:DDDD) feis.

My dress is black, with lots of silver sequins and gems. I'm pretty sure it's a Gavin. I also have a big wig***, but my teacher said I might be able to start wearing natural hair! :D

Now, here's my questions! ;)

Are you Southern Region? This isn't too personal, is it, Admins? If it is, please simply delete the question.

Do you have a dress? What color is it?

What dance school do you dance for? This can't be too personal, can it? There are millions upon millions of schools, and each one has different branches. I don't really care(wow that sounds harsh, but you know what I mean;>) about which branch(which area, eg. Richmond), just which school. I dance for Muggivan. Admins, if this is too personal, please, feel free to delete it.

What (competition) level are you?

thats all. If you Irish dance as well, please, feel free to join in!

Hey! I do irish dancing, too! At our school, we have levels ranging from 0-8. I'm in level 6. We don't wear wigs, but we can curl our hair. It doesn't work very well for me, though, because I have fine hair. My dress is green with lots of sparkles, and it has gold too! I'm in the An Cogal Commision. In competition, I am in pre-open.

Awesome! Yeah, my hair doesn't curl either...sigh. A girl can dream...

Oh okay. Our levels are named like the competition levels, Beginner I, Beginner II, Beginner 2, Advanced I, Advanced II, and Champs.  The Champs class you can normally only get into if you are in Prelimb(Or pre-open, as you say. Cool) and/or Open, but my teacher made an exception...sigh. It's kinda awkward...

Whats your favorite dance? Mine is, hands down, Tip Reel(a.k.a. Treble Reel, and sometimes Double Reel)!! Buuuut that's technically not a dance...Sigh, fine, it's Slip Jig for softshoe and Hornpipe for softshoe. Yes, I know, completely ignoring the specifications. Whatevs. :P

Btw, realized I forgot the explanations for the asterisks for all you non-Irish dancers. ;)

*=A feis is a competition, more than one feis is called a feisanna. Did I spell that right? Think I did. Moving on.

**=Explained in my above reply to Killim.

***=A bun wig is a short wig that you hook around a bun, and it has really tight curls. A big wig is almost the same, except it's a LONG wig. Look up 'bun wig Irish dance' and 'big wig Irish dance' on Google. A picture speaks a thousand words.

Wow, I'm so philosophical tonight!

Cool! So basically, since we are in different commisons, we have different world championships and nationals and otehr stuff. I think, I'm pretty sure.

Oh, do you dance as well? It's defenitly really fun. I'm not sure why it's not part of the olympics yet-we are probably more fit than some of those runners! Maybe not the swimmers though...@Brookeria

@DRAGON, I love playing Irish music !!!! That's so cool that you played at festivals! Do you have any recommendations for music books on irish music? I play it too, but I'm having trouble finding music that's not either too easy nor too hard for me. Thanks ;)

I found out that I'm pre-open in everything EXCEPT single jig.

Anyway, what level are you in, Brookeira?

My fav dacne is probably light jigs (softshoe) and treble jigs (hardshoe)

Are any of you guys on toes on your hardshoes??Image result for toes in hard shoes

Congrats, Inktail! I have a digital feis coming up. I've never done one before so it should be fun and interesting. Laughing I don't know when I started toes. I know that in our comission, you have to either be a certain age, like 13, or a level. I forgot. It's the same way we do it at our school, but at our school, we also have to have strong ankles to prevent injury.

Again, congrats!!!!
