Who We Are

Who We Are

Sorry Admins, I've made a ton of threads today. But this one here is kind of unique. We all do descriptions of our AEs, but never of ourselves. I know some of that's a bit personal, and that's cool.

But if you wish, this is the thread to describe your hobbies, random facts about you, and what you love doing for fun.

So here's about me:

~ I am an overall HUGE gamer. I love video games, especially first person and third person shooters like COD Ghosts, Black Ops II, and The Divison. I also love the Assassin's Creed series, Minecraft, Mario Kart, and a ton more. I don't have a favorite platform, I play PC, Kindle Fire, smart phones, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, Wii, DSi, things like that.

~ I am also a major book nerd, especially with Harry Potter. I love fantasy and sci-fi the most, and I prefer series over single books. But I got to be honest, historical reads like the Diary of Anne Frank really mean a lot to me.

~ Cheesecake. Enough said there xD

~ Pranking people. I know, there are various views on the topic of pranking, but as long as it does not offend or hurt someone, me and my best friend do it all the time.

~ Internet. Goes along with gaming, but somewhat even more so. I love Facebook, online games like Tanki Online, coding, and the CB.

~ Coding, it's something I'm fairly new at, but enjoy doing.

~ Adventure. I love being outside, exploring the world whenever possible.

~ Walking. Don't ask why, but I find it an enjoyable activity. It gives me time to have my thoughts silently to myself.

~ Dreaming. I am a vivid dreamer, and kind of can control what I dream about. So daydream, sleep dreaming, it is all epic.

~ And finally, photography and art. I love taking pics of nature and people and sketching. My favorite brand is Prismacolor for colored pencils, and Nikon for cameras.

So what about you guys? I'd love to get to know you all a bit better!

Haha, I never thought you were a "cold-hearted nit-picker", we all just show our personalities in different ways. Honestly, I have tons of people mistaken me as some cold, quiet freak. Seriously.

I have to say, indie games are awesome, and I've played something similar to Ultimate Hoopsby, so I know a bit about it. And techno music's my favorite, I tried making my own but kinda failed. As in I... well, gave up. Maybe I'll go back to it one day.

Instead of Nerf I use Airsoft with my friends and we do battles in these woods behind one of my friend's house. It's epic, but usually, the game ends in a draw.

Also, you really should keep that resolution, submitting something to a sci-fi magazine would be awesome, and you really have the skills they look for. So do remember to do it! Flute is really cool too, one of my friends has spent years playing it for band, and it sounds fantastic. Also, who is that character from?

Oh gosh. Here we go.

~I cannot finish anything but drawings. I'm always moving from from story idea to the next, it seems like. I try to write novels but only get to about 7,000-8,000 words before I get another idea. Argh, it's super frustrating!

~I want to get into animating. I recently got a digital drawing tablet, so it could be a possibility. (I'm just not sure if I'll be able to finish it, though- see above)

~I love looking at notebooks/sketchbooks.

~I sometimes wear fuzzy socks under my high tops. And I own a pair of camo crew socks with unicorns on them.

~I have short hair in real life.

~Good smells really make me happy. My favorites are clean clothes/dryer sheets (weird, I know, but I love that smell) fresh paint, sharpie, and clementines.

~Cloudy days are my favorite

~I chew gum a lot, and can blow pretty big bubbles with them. Some other small talents I have include- the ability to wiggle my ears (which I guess was inheirited from my great-grandpa), a double-jointed left pinkie that I can pop out of place, and rolling my tongue. I can also pop my hip out of place, but I don't know if that means it's double jointed or not.

~I love Fall Out Boy. They are my favorite musicians of all time.

~I sew and crochet.

~I love to play the piano, and I play the clarinet but don't like it as much (probably because my music/band teacher is really weird)

~I play softball, and my position is catcher. I play volleyball, and my position is middle. (I don't know the technical term) I play basketball, and I'm either center or a post. I'm pretty tall for my age, 5'7'', so that's an advantage for those sports. I also do something called speech which is a bit like drama.

~My school is a super tiny, Catholic school, with only about 140 kids for Pre-school through 8th grade. We are multi-age, which means Kindergarten and first grade share a classroom, 2nd and 3rd share and classroom, 4th and 5th, and 6th 7th and 8th grade share two classrooms. We have 32 kids in all of junior high XD It's really cool because you get used to a lot of different age groups, and know a lot of kids. It's even better because I still get to be in class with my friend who got held back a year.

~I have a sister named Lydia (who is Lavender on here) My name in real life is Amelia.

~I have a black lab/pyrenees mix named Pepper, and two cats named Fritzi and Tiger. My mom really loves golden retrievers, but they were too expensive, so she got Pepper, a shelter dog. My dad only like small dogs, and he used to have a stray named Pythagoras (he's a math teacher, if that explains why. He named my aunt's cat Aristotle, too)

~I don't dream very often. If I do, it's has to do with something I'm stressing over.

Um... I'll think of more later. I've got a ton of random facts about myself. Cool thread, Ashlee!

(January 5, 2017 - 11:09 pm)

Thanks, Bluebird! I got to say, we have a lot in common. I mean, my not being able to finish anything besides art *cringes* and my wanting to do animation. Although cloudy days, unless those really awesome puffy clouds, just bring down my mood. As for schools, mine is a little over 120 kids for Pre-K - 12th. I mean, I can proudly say I'm friends with 6th graders, 8th graders, and older, and get along really well with little Preschool and Kindergartners because of it.

I love piano, but alas, I never learned to play (due to not finishing anything), and Bunny is learning to play the clarinet. Now that I've been swamped with school, I've had a hard time dreaming, or even making my own dreams, probably due to stress. Then when I'm really excited, nervous, stressed out, or upset, I'll have random dreams. I just wish I could dream like I used to, though...

Thanks for sharing, I'll post more about me later as well! Although with all my comments, I guess I posted a ton extra about me. :D

I hang out with the little kids a lot, too. We have this 'buddy system' thing at my school, where we get their hot lunches and take them over to church and stuff, and my 'buddy' is the sweetest kid ever. And everybody (well, the people who play sports in 2-8, pretty much) play soccer/kickball/knockout during recess, which lets you get to know people really well. We have a K-12 school around where I live, too, and my friend is going to have to go there for high school. I feel like that would be a cool experience.

(January 7, 2017 - 9:50 am)

Yeah, a K-12 is a really interesting thing. Every Thursday we eat lunch together, and breakfast is together every day. We also have Reading Rallies where the high school reads to the elementary, and sometimes projects where we bring robotics, art, etc. to show the younger kids. We don't do a buddy system, though. But the cool thing is, you get to know everyone really well and make a ton of friends through various grades.

Ahem.

Here are some facts about me:

-I'm homeschooled

-I sew (but not crochet). That's really cool you sew, Bluebird! What kind of things do you sew and crochet?? I'm really curious. Me, I just do little things like coasters or bags but also sometimes clothes and I made a quilt once for my mom. It was really fun!:) Also I was the student costume designer once for a play.

-I will have been doing karate for 9 years on Jan. 15th! I do ho-shin-do, which is a Korean form that isn't very well known. I'm actually an instructor there, too for the little kids (who can be so adorable!!). My mom thinks I spend too much time there... :)

-I've got three brothers. Two older, one younger.

-I do speech and debate. Every year the league we're in chooses a topic for policy debate, and you have to make a plan that affirms that topic and argue for it. For example, this year the resolution is about U.S. food safety and agriculture policy. Last year it was about trade policy with South Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan. At debate tournaments you have to dress really professionally in business attire

-I looooooove to read! My favorite books are Harry Potter, The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak, Flipped by Wendelin van Draanen, the Inkheart trilogy, The Golden Compass trilogy (I think it's called His Dark Materials), Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children trilogy, A Wrinkle in Time and the Time Quintet, the Chronicles of Narnia, ummm. That doesn't comprise everything but ok.

-A camel is definitely my spirit animal. I love camels!! I've ridden one before, in Jerusalem.

-Star Wars is like one of my favorite movies EVER. Alongside "The Road to El Dorado" which is this old Disney movie we used to have on VCR that my brothers and I laugh about so much. Apparently it was a box office failure, but I don't know why because its really hilarious and I've talked to several people who say they love that movie.

Sorry for the super long post!

@Caroline

I LOVE The Road To El Dorado! Those 'weird' Disney movies like that, The Empire's New Groove, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Lilo and Stitch are some of my favorite. But Up will always be my #1 :) I like The Book Thief as well.

You went to Jerusalem! that's really cool! I would honestly be pretty scared to go out of the country, even though it would be awesome. i've never flown in a plane before, what is it like?

I sew pretty simple stuff. I made a skirt for my sister and purse-sorta-thing, so just small things. I have never made a quilt before. For my brithday, which is coming up, I asked for material to make an artist's smock because I get paint all over my clothes. That's another fact about me. I get marker/pen/paint all over, I don't know how or why!

(Another random fact) ~Alongside being eternally covered in ink/paint, my hands get ice cold very easily. The rest of my body may be warm, but my hands are just freezing, I don't know why.

(January 7, 2017 - 9:46 am)

YESSS!! Another El Dorado fan!!!!! I swear there's some sort of conspiracy against El Dorado- everyone I talk to loves it... :)

And the Emperor's New Groove!!! I love that movie. Have you seen Kronk's New Groove? It's like the sequel and it's just as hilarious!!!

The Book Thief!!!!! Need I say more?

Yeah, my mom really likes traveling, so I've been out of the country a few times. Also, my aunt's a flight attendent, so whenever we go somewhere really far away we try to get these really cheap plane tickets from her. Basically, they're these "standby" passes where you just pay a little bit of money and then take any seats that are left on the plane. A few times, we got Business Class (which is really fancy and costs a ton of money if you pay for it yourself) because there were seats open there, and it was AWESOME!!! But sometimes, there are no seats left on the plane, so we have to wait for the next one...

Airplanes are pretty cool. It can be really loud, and the pressure on your ears is sometimes not very comfortable, but I kind of like it. I think being a flight attendent would be really cool, 'cause after you've been doing it for a while and done all the usual domestic flights within the US, you get to be an attendent on flights to really exotic places. Like she'll just be like, hey I'm going to Spain for a few days for work. Be right back. :D

Going out of the country's not too scary, if you know someone there or have a good idea of what you're doing. However, I will never like wearing fanny packs.

I've sewn a few skirts before, made with some material that now I question as being tasteful at all... :) I've also made a few dresses, a blouse, several hats, two pairs of shorts, and some other things.

My hands get really cold, too! Well, not exactly cold, but in the winter, they get really really dry and red and chapped. It's better now then it was a few years ago, but they still are pretty rough in the winter.

That's awesome, Caroline! I've always wanted to try karate, it seems fantastic. As for debate, we do that a ton in English, but my school does not have a debate team yet (we should by next year! :D). I do participate in FBLA - Future Business Leaders of America - where you have to dress in business attire for conferences and competitions.

And it looks like we enjoy reading almost the exact same things! I've never read Book Thief, but I want to. Harry Potter is my all time favorite series, though!

Awesome idea!

~I love to draw and sketch, although a lot of the time it doesn't turn out that well and I get frustrated. I also like the Prismacolor brand for pencils, and another favorite is Artist's Loft. My grandma on my dad's side got me watercolor pencils by them for my b-day, and my grandma on my mom's side (funnily enough) got me plain colored pencils by them for Christmas.

~I love music--Lindsey Stirling, movie soundtracks, Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber, *cringes* Okay, I only like a few of his songs. Um, Rachel Platten, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Spose, (who is a rap artist from my town and has super-awesome music with um--expletives.) uh...and a lot of others.

~I like writing and reading, (of course) and...oh. I have to go now. More later.

(January 7, 2017 - 12:53 pm)

Thanks, Leafpool! I think I've heard of the Artist's Loft brand before. Drawing is amazing, but I also get frustrated at times since I am such a perfectionist. I'll sit there for five hours doing a tiny picture because I want each line to look perfect.

I love music as well (most people do, fortunately!) And Lindsey Stirling is amazing! Another person you might like is Taylor Davis, she does the same music, but for video game soundtracks usually. I also love movie/video game soundtracks and Imagine Dragons. The only thing is, I can't pick my favorite album by them... they are all awesome. My favorite rapper is probably Macklemore, and he's actually from where I used to live when I was younger.

And of course, reading and writing are awesome, too, thanks for sharing!

~ I love reading and writing, especially stories. I don't know how many unfinished novels are under my bed xD. My favorite books are, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, and Harry Potter

~  I am the spelling bee champion of my school(Hamilton Elementary xD), at the young age of ten.

~ I have a black Lab named Bart, who is 5 but he doesn't act like it, and a talking bird named Clarkie

~ My name in real life is Alice

~Snow. I love snow. Enough said there xD

~ I live within walking distance to the Atlantic Ocean (Well, Really Narragansett Bay), So vast majorities of my summer are spent there swimming

~ Tying in with the last one, I love sailing. I race Optis(look it up) and my sail number is 18917(which is why those particular numbers are part of my CB name)

~ I LOVE LOVE LOVE Science, and I memorized the periodic table in third grade(hence the other part of my CB name). My dad always shows it off to other people. He asks them to pick a number, and then asks me what element's atomic number is that number. I have learned to go upstairs and hide whenever he asks someone to pick a number xD.

~Lastly, my favorite thing to do on the Internet is... Be on the CB! I love how there are such great, kind, understanding people here, and I hope I never have to leave

~I love to read. It is more than a hobby for me. Lately, I've had trouble finding books that are appropriate for me, but don't have a boring or depressing plot.

~I have been writing a novel since I was seven, and possibly before that. My very first memory of it was when me and a friend were creating book covers for it, and deciding what the mythical country it took place in would look like. I've lost touch with the friend, but she gave up on the idea before we even started writing. I never did.

~I speak French, I'm teaching myself how to speak Spanish, and I want to learn Latin.

~The book I'm writing is based on a game I played when I was in elementary school. This provided me with a interesting plot line and a large and unique set of characters, since everyone in my school played that same game.  Nearly every character in the book is based on someone who played the game. The game itself was imaginary, filled with Indians, WWII and I generals, redcoats, fairies, pegasi, potions, and almost anything a kid between the ages five and fourteen could think of.

~I have a rant on why time travel is a bad idea, and my classmates have come to call it my 'Time Travel Rant.' It has gone on for hours before.

~I collect socks. It was more of just a coincidence, at first. I just had a large number of them, and many were odd looking or patterned. But eventually, I gained an insane number, and people started giving them to me as gifts on holidays. Soon I ran out of room in my underwear drawer for them, and now I've started calling myself a sock collector.

~It's a rare day that I try to stop being friends with someone. The friends I have lost mainly drifted away to become part of the groups of 'popular kids' at school, or started being horrible to some of my other friends and then left. At the moment, I'm actually considering leaving some of my friends because they've started to basically bully the others in my friend group. At first, it was like they were joking, but now it's escalated to a point where there's no way they could possibly be kidding anymore.

~I play the clarinet and recorder, and I love sing. I write songs, though I try to avoid singing in front of people unless I'm on stage. When I'm on a stage, I can't see the audience, making it easier to imagine that nobody's there. I've also gotten into many of the school plays.

~I love supporting school legends. That creepy grandma made of shadows living in the girls locker room? She's real if you ask me, and I'll happily tell you the whole ghost story behind her. The never-opening locker that leads to a secret basement where the PE coaches hold sacred rituals? I'll give you directions, I'll draw you a map. The tale that if you take a pencil out of the art room, you get a taboo? It happened to me.

~My classmates and I summoned a demon in Homeroom. Need I say anything else?

~I can tell a good story. Once, I convinced someone that there was a band named The Food that only played in the U.K., just to cover for a classmate who didn't want anyone finding out a secret. Oh, I'll also cover for anyone, as long as I believe it's a probable cause.

~I always need a creative project to work on, or else I go insane. A painting, a song I'm writing, a table made from an old bookshelf- if I didn't have these things to do, I'd be running around screaming.

~I hate Google. Not the number, the web browser. They are pushing libraries to the burnt of extinction, people! Research librarians are out of the job. The American Library Association actually has T-shirts on the subject!
