Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Bare feet buried in the sand, eyes on the cold, twirling waves beyond the horizon. She knew the ocean was calling to her... beckoning. It caught Quill's attention, more so than anything she had ever experienced. Her brother always spoke of the beautiful magic presented by the open sea, but she never took him seriously.

As the sun set, memories washed over her broken thoughts and emotions, like the ocean waves itself. Her adventure through life, the few close friends who stuck by her even though her personality was not... typical.

Numerous more minutes pass, the wet sand pulling her into its grasp like a mother does to her child in a warm hug. The water was now up to Quill's ankles as something shimmering caught her eye. A beautifully formed silvery white shell, like a perfectly created snowdrop. Bending down, Quill scooped up the shell, examining it. A small, pure white head poked out from a hole in the shell, giving the AE a small fright. To her surprise, in cupped in her hands were the smallest baby albino sea turtle, frail yet beautiful.

The sight brought a tear to Quill's eye as she laid a finger on the turtle's small head. It looked up, minuscule eyes latching onto hers. Peaceful, simple, wonderful. Quill had never felt such an emotion wash over her before, and at last, she felt a connection to something... a connection she had not felt since... forever.

The invisible gray walls clouding Quill's thoughts finally faded, and her happiness returned. Such a small being now rested sweetly against her thumb, asleep. This is what brought her joy, restoring the broken AE to her former self.
