Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Princess Acad

Princess Academy by Shannon Hale.

This is going to be the first book we read for the book club. What do you think about starting next week? (On sunday) We will try to read at least one chapter a day. If that's too short we might do two.

On second thought, maybe we should wait a little longer so that everyone can get their hands on a copy.

I think your second thought works best. I'm pretty busy now and I have to see if the library has it.

I already have read it, so although I won't be reading it at the same time, I can still weigh in in the discussions. It's a good book!

I've read it too.
To everyone: If you've read it already, consider re reading it. It's easy to forget parts of the book. But if you don't want to and feal like you remember it, feel free to do what Willa's doing.

How about, when you get a copy, you make a post on this thread saying so? Then, we start whenever we all have it with us. Or at least, all of us who want to do it. Does that sound like a good idea, or would you rather do it a different way?

Good idea!

I have it, I bought it, thinking it looked good, and have read it three or four times since then, but am always glad to read it again!!  :)

Ok. Let's start the week of the 21st. There are 25 chapters... but they're a little short. Some are only 5 pages, though others are around 15. What do you guys think?  Since we're all book lovers, we might want to consider two or more chapters. But if we do less, it will be easier for people to catch up.

Here's one thing I ask of everyone: When we're reading, try not to get too far ahead. I know it's tempting, but if you do, you'll get bored waiting for everyone to catch up. I'm not going to kill you or anything ;), but you understand. If you feel like it's moving to slowly, feel free to say so, because maybe we can speed things up.

My copy (Bloomsbury Children's Books) has a discussion section at the back, which will be good.

Once we decide on how much we read each day, we can see what day we'll finish the book.

Good plans, all of them. I am a fast reader, but when we're reading things for homeschool and stuff I have to go slow, so I'll be pretty good about that. I can't wait for this to begin! This is an AWESOME idea!

OK. I think we should do two chapters a day. But we can take a break on Saturdays or Sundays, (vote?) to give people a chance to catch up. Don't worry though, this book is a page turner. So it will take two weeks to finish.

That sounds good too.  I'm a fast reader, so two pages for me would be a lot better....
