A girl stood

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

A girl stood

A girl stood with a peacock feather, staring at the blank scroll. She was at the border of a shining marble city, full of wonders. In it were people of every appearance and character, making the city all their imaginations wished it. There were castles and cottages and cathedrals, a massive park full of twisted woods and enchanted lakes.

How would Stella make her mark here? Would she create a mountain range or a high tech laboratory that made you feel smart just to be inside? A library? No, there were thousands of those already! Smiling, Stella lifted the feather and began to write.

----

While I may have been waxing eloquent here (nothing to do with candles, or cars for that matter) I should probably give you a few plain facts as well:

-- Stella hasn't posted here before, but has looked around and knows what she's doing (she hopes)

-- She lives off of books, and cares about grammar, except when you catch her speaking about herself in the third person

-- Stella isn't my name, it's the name of my dog, who happens to be a lab, I didn't even realize the irony of my name/location until I just pointed it out, so thanks self.

-- I don't plan to post very often (we'll see about that) because of actual life and inconsequential things like that. Right now I'm off to build a telescope, so tata to my devoted minions, ahem, nice people of the Chatterbox (aka "The Cricket Thing", as I say to my brother)

Thank you, Pepper Star. I like the idea of the CAPTCHA, though I can see it will take a little creativity to make anything intelligble out of it (wuhi?). Perhaps mine speaks in acrostics:

Winter

Understands

Heavenly

Illuminations

(interpret as you will)

Hi, Stella! Welcome to the CB! Bonjour! Hõla! Guten Tag...? Howdy! Hello! Heya! Oy, you!

I think you would make a good poet, with all that "waxing eloquent". Or maybe a good candlemaker. Either way, glad to have you here!

Many happy returns, Leafpool! It's interesting that Hello backwards is almost pronounced like Hola. Kinda. I wonder who thought of it first.

Stella, that was honestly the most beautiful and well-written introduction thread I have ever seen in my life. Welcome! I'm so pleased you've come! Whether or not you post often, I hope you stay! Though it would be nice if you'd post more often, of course. So, what do you like to do? What are some of your favorite books? Feel free to ask questions if you have any! I can't wait to get to know you!

Mercy buckets, Cockleburr! (That can be the anglicisation of merci beaucoup). I enjoy many things and making lists of them, so here is a list:

-- Music (piano, cello, ukuelele, voice)

-- Microscopes (The bread had these little blue specks on it, disturbingly enough.)

-- Munchings (baking, microwave recipes in the toaster oven, making up new lunch recipes that often involve ham and pickles)

-- Movies (currently filming a mystery TV series and an hour-long stereotypical fantasy movie with friends, the latter of which starring a long-lost heir to the throne (me) who wields a plastic pirate sword from the Dollar Store that fell apart in the first fight scene and had to be reforged with duct tape)

And I can't think of any more that begin with M. What about you?

Books. Hmm...

To Kill a Mockingbird

Pride and Prejudice

Document8 (my brother's book)

The Treekeepers (by Susan McGee Britton)

The Lord of the Rings

Narnia

The Space Trilogy (by CS Louis)

The Martian Chronicles (by Ray Bradbury)

Hidden Figures (the book the movie was based on)

Anything by Dr. Seuss

Anything by Gerard Manley Hopkins

The Bible

Thanks Leeli! So you're a fan of The Wingfeather Saga I take it? I'm much more familiar with Peterson's music than the books, but enjoy both!

I am, in fact! You've heard of it? And listened to Andrew Peterson? Wow! I'm surprised because I've only met one or two CBers who have. I've listened to his music too, it's pretty good! I used to be a major fangirl of the series, and I still have my Wingfeather posters, but I'm not quite as passionate as I used to be. I still don't want to change my name though, because it's become a part of who I am, and I often use it as a screen name when I don't want to post my real name on the internet.

I happened to see The Bible on your list of books you like, and I wondered if you were a Christian.

Thanks Kitten! Nice to meet you! That's really cool, Irish dancing can be very impressive. Have you ever seen the Sesame Street where Murray goes to Irish dance school? It's cute.
