Stop Bullying Ladybug!

Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Stop Bullying Ladybug!

Stop Bullying Ladybug!

I love the reading the stories in Cricket, but I'm concerned about the comic strips. Cricket and the other bugs are so often bullying ladybug, and it's just mean. Of course, ladybug has problems, but everybuggy has problems, and everybuggy deserves to be treated with respect. I feel like often the comic strips end with ladybug in some bad situation, and that's just not okay. I don't want to walk away from reading the comic strip feeling sad for ladybug and feeling like there wasn't a good ending. Why is ladybug always left out of activites and critized? I don't to read things that remind me of middle school bullying, that was bad enough, and I don't want to see it replayed in my favorite magazine. I think ladybug is a beautiful singer, stop making fun of her! I want to see reconciliation, and I want to see character development, and I want to see happy endings for ladybug, and therefore for all of us. Please, change the comic strips for the sake of all the kids reading it, and give us happier endings, for all of our own real-life bullying stories that didn't get a happy ending.

We’re sorry you’re not enjoying the adventures of the Cricket bugs. We think of the bugs as a group of good friends, each with their own quirks and interests. They don’t always get along perfectly and sometimes squabble and complain—like real friends—but we don’t think they’re ever mean or hurtful. Each of the bugs can do silly things or have crazy ideas, but their interactions are always friendly. Even Ugly Bird, with all his faults, is accepted—or at least tolerated—as part of Cricket Country. Ladybug is bossy and always thinks she has the best ideas, which can be annoying as well as fun and exciting, but everybuggy still really likes her (don’t you?), and the bugs always help each other out when they can.

Rebecca, I agree with you. Ladybug deserves some respect. She's treated like the odd one out, and the only one who really cares about her unconditionally is Pussywillow. Maybe you could have Pussywillow stand up for Ladybug in one of the comics? I would really enjoy that and I'm sure other readers like me would like to see Ladybug happy.
