Chatterbox: Chirp at Cricket

Hi!I'm L

Hi!

I'm Leila, and I'm new to Chatterbox (and I like it so far), but I've been getting Cricket for five months and I absolutely love it!

Here's a quick introduction:

My favorite sport is gymnastics. I'm a competitive gymnast. I also like running and swimming, although I can't swim very fast. I've played harp for 3 years and something months, and I'm going to start trumpet for middle school band. But if I were to pick a different instrument, I'd pick either piccolo, cello, or saxophone. For the past couple of years I've been on an OBOB team, where you answer questions about a set of 16 books.

I like to read and write. I hope to publish a book series someday. My favorite books are The Girl Who Drank the Moon, Halfway Normal, The Next Great Paulie Fink, Three Keys, Last in a Long Line of Rebels, Eventown, It Ain't So Awful, Falafel, and The Thing about Jellyfish. Writing is the thing for me, because I can write A LOT. Once, for a contest, I was supposed to submit a paragraph. Well, that paragraph turned into a page! (I'm working on being less wordy and more concise. I'm a total grammarphobe too. So I flip out over grammatical errors. Really, I'm like Aunt Josephine in The Wide Window.)

I have two parakeets, who'll turn one this summer, and my family also has two goldfish we got for Nowruz, Iranian new year. My favorite food is either sushi or kebabs.

So what about you? Do you play/do a sport or instrument? What's you're favorite book? Favorite food? Are you a grammarphobe or "walking Grammarly" like me?

That seems like a good intro for now.

Leila out!

Hi Leila! Welcome to the CB! I'm Periwinkle, but go ahead and call me Peri. Can someone give Leila here a link to the ultimate guide? Thanks. Leila, the ultimate guide is basically, well, exactly what it sounds like, but I don't know if I can put a link for it- sorry!

Anyhoo! I do track and can play...*drumrolls*... About 3/4 of "This Land is Your Land" on the piano. Not crazy impressive, but... Better than 2/4? I don't know, lol. Also I LOVE Three Keys! Kelly Yang (the author) is coming out with the third one in fall I think? I can't wait to see what happens next! My favorite book is... Well... I don't know! I love the Harry Potter series, definitely would reccomend if you have a big vocabulary. I started reading it at a very young age and was like "I have no idea what half of that meant but there was magic so YAY!" Fortunately I did understand on some level by the time I finished it, which was last year. I love burgers and ice cream, preferably with chocolate and cookie dough. I do have some grammar pet peeves, such as "your" vs. "you're" and "alot" (oh it was so painful to write alot nonono).
Some things that confused me when I joined: AEs! That stands for alter-ego, it's like a character you create to represent a part of yourself/your personality. CAPTCHAs! Those are that little box of letters you had to fill out to make this post. If you see something like "Ellie says hgfzx" that's someone talking about their CAPTCHA; people like naming them and making them an animal. Top! There's a glitch in the system that causes the first comment on a post to make the thread be super hard to find, so people "top" threads to get them back where they should be again. To top a thread, click the "submitted by" thing once or twice until you find your thread and make sure that the first comment has already posted. Then you can top it.
Also, it's cool that you live in Oregon. :D
That's all for now, see you around! Let me know if you have any questions, I know it's a bit confusing here.

Hi Leila! Welcome to the CB!

I don't do sports much, but I like swimming. I play the piano. My cousin does harp, it's a really cool instrument!

I love the Girl Who Drank the Moon. That and the Blue Sword are my favorite books.

Book series are a different thing. I love Keeper of the Lost Cities, have you heard of it?

Yay, you've read a Series of Unfortunate Events! Have you read the All the Wrong Questions series, by the same author?

I have a cat and a dog. My favorite food is probably pizza. I am grammarish (now it's a word :D), I probably picked it up from reading too much, although I'm not good with the more theory part of it, like active/passive verbs or parts of a sentence.

ANyway, we're glad you're here, Leila! See you around!

MoonKitten:

I haven't read Keeper of the Lost Cities, but I've heard about it. I started the first book of All the Wrong Questions series, but I didn't get much further. I have, though, read Thirteen Suspicious Incidents also by Lemony Snicket.

Hi Leila! Welcome to the Chatterbox! My name's pangolin. I've read The Girl Who Drank the Moon, but none of those other books you mentioned. I'll have to check them out! My favorite books are The Secret Series, but my favorite book in that series is probably the fifth one (You Have to Stop This). When I was writing a story for the Cricket story contest, it was supposed to be 350 words, but I wrote over 2,000! So I  brought out my inner editor and googled words to cut from your story and condensed the plot. I managed to get it down to 350 words exactly, but not without tons of effort on my part. And yes, I am a total grammar freak. Once, I went to the dentist and in the waiting room, there was an umbrella stand with a label that said "Umbrella's Here" and inside my head, I was screaming "noo the umbrella doesn't OWN anything whyyyy is there an apostraphe (did I even spell that right)??" So yeah, I'm obsessed with grammar. The sports I play are softball and...yeah that's pretty much it. I don't play an instrument, though I'd like to. I don't have a favorite food, since there's so many to choose from! Well, this is very long and probably overwhelming, so I'll end it here. I look forward to seeing you more on the Chatterbox!

Hey Leila! I'm Forest Nymph. I'm new here, too! My location is "Playing the harp" but I don't actually, so it's cool you do! I don't have any pets, and I'd tell you my favorite animal, but there's so many to choose from! I mostly like animals that live in the forest, such as chipmunks, squirrels, foxes, etc. I'm good at grammar, but I'm not a grammarphobe as you put it. See you around!

Ooh you're in Oregon? I'm up here in Washington! :D

Ugh, yes, I hate it when people have bad grammar. Especially the you're/your, to/too, and their/they're/there thing, because people mess it up so often and it drives me crazy lol.

That's so cool that you can play harp! And that you do gymnastics! I do karate and modern dance and piano, so nothing very interesting.

I've read most of the books you've mentioned! They're really good. I'm currently kinda obsessed with the Rick Riordan books but I've been reading a ton during quarantine and I have so many favorites! A Mango-Shaped Space might be my all-time favorite, but it's a hard decision. I also love to write! And I hope to publish a book series too.

As for pets, I have a cat. His name is Brian. We might get another cat soon :D

I'm not sure what my favorite food is.

Hi, Leila! It's nice to meet you! It's super cool that you do gymnastics! I'm a dancer, and I take both ballet and modern dance classes. Playing harp sounds really interesting! I play the clarinet, but I'm hoping to learn piano at some point! Some of my favorite books are Love, Stargirl, Dash, Breakout, Legend, A Summer of a Thousand Pies, Other Words for Home, The Science of Breakable Things, and just about any Rick Riordan book! My favorite food is potatoes! I love nearly every dish with potatoes in it. :) See you around!

Hello Leila!

To the point.

THE CEO OF GRAMMARLY IS MY BEST FRIEND. YOU MAY NOT CLAIM THAT POSITION. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Anyways! I can be a spelling and grammar police when I want to- literally, e-ve-ry-one uses slang these days! I mean, what the heck!

I'm also working on a book series at the moment! Well, um, like, 2 book series and 8 seperate books. I also love writing! My teacher told me, 500 words at minimum..I was going to write 500 words, but those words may or may not have turned into 11 pages. (Hey, it was a fun prompt!)

I play the guitar (i just started learning!), the ukelele, the flute, the recorder, the piano, and the glockenspiel. I might get into learning the cello or the violin!

I was second place in the GeoBee in 4th grade in my class.

ANYWAYS! HELLOOOOOOOOOO! WELCOME!

*waves excitedly*

OH RIGHT! my cb persona is a daughter of odin, a demigod, and does NOT like giving motivational powerpoints, thank you very much. im deaf and mute.

GLOCKENSPIEL!!!

Haha, sorry, I have a thing with my music teacher where we meet in the hall and shout that at each other. Like, all angry, so it sounds like a scolding, and everyone around us is all confused and wondering what we're talking about.

It's such a pretty, dainty little instrument though. Haha~

Heya, Leila! You sound cool!

I'm Jaybells, and I also have a parakeet who'll be turning one this summer! I play the piano and violin, too, but I've always wanted to try the harp! (Too many sting instruments,  huh?) Gymnastics always sounded cool, but was preoccupied with ballet, football/soccer, and aquestrianism(horseback-riding).

Additionally, I do that thing where you start with a paragraph and then before you know it it's several pages long... So relatable. Plus, I'm really picky about grammar as well.

By the way, are you Iranian or is it just a family tradition to use the Iranian calander? I've always thought it was funny how you could get so many different calendars based on the same set of celestial bodies, 'specially since I usually used the Hebrew calendar for holidays and the like growing up.

Well, it's been nice meeting you! Ciao~

Hey Leila! It's great to meet you! I hope you enjoy it here in the Chatterbox (CB)! There are plenty of places to visit for reading and writing here, and I can't wait to hear some of your stories! By the way, what have you found to be the most common grammat mistake? I might not be a grammarphobe, but when I spot grammar issues, it almost always bothers me. I can't wait to see you areound the Chatterbox!

Hey Leila! I'm Milly Sunstar. Sushi is one of my MANY favorite foods. In fact, I say that almost every food is my favorite, sushi is on the super-favorites list. I also love to read and write, and I write a lot. It's hard to write short things, when I can make so much more of it. You seem really cool! Hope to see you around the Chatterbox!!!
