Philosophical phrases that you think are worth sharing:

This thread exists to inspire philosophical thoughts. You can share your own, ones from the sages of ancient times, or just a phrase you heard that you think is wise or touching in its own way. I'll begin with a few:

-Stumbling through the thunderstorm, your umbrella is but an inverted boat for your dreams. Grasp the mast tightly in your hands, young sailor, for the angry waves of the sky are upon you.

-The people who see no future are all living in the past.

-We were never meant to fit in. We were meant to stand out.

-I once thought that my world was swept away by the wind. Now I know that I was falling all along.

-Can an expired ticket buy a trip on missed trains?

When people say they want to fit in, they are actually saying they want to stand out--because no one fits in, and people who don't think they fit in are often so scared of being wrong that they fade into the background, therefore fitting in all too well.

What actually is happiness? The state of just not feeling bad (sad, angry, etc.) is sometimes numbness. Maybe happiness is joy?

The Captcha is saying eekfw. What is FW, and why is the Captcha scared of it?

FW must stand for Furious Worms. I'd be scared too.

-You have the power to change the world, or at least a page, a moment in someone's life (your own as well), for the better or for the worse. Choices are black and white, but mostly they're gray. And you have to choose where to walk, where to change the color, where to leave it be--and this is among the heaviest burdens.

-The world we live in is built of objects that are made of paper, wood, metal, plastic, etc, and all of the machines that made these took hours to invent, all the handmade objects took time or work or love to make...and yet we compare them with others, toss those hours away and pick up another object, before truly appreciating the effort put into each one. This is an effect of consumerism, and instant gratification.

-We all start out the same, more of less. The only difference between a famous person and an unfamous person is the choices they made, and how that affected others and made them stand out.

-"We are not born knowing how to love anyone, either ourselves or somebody else...Whether we learn to love ourselves and others will depend on the presence of a loving environment. Self-love cannot flourish in isolation." -bell hooks, in chapter 4 of All About Love

"it might feel like "i'm being dramatic and other people have it so much worse" and it might be true that others do have it worse but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt." -Mushroom
