N.Y.C.!!! :) Hey

N.Y.C.!!! :) Hey everybuggy! I might not post a lot this week, because I'll be in New York City!!! I am so excited to explore! :) Have any of you been there before? If so, have any suggestions of fun places to check out? :) If you guys want, I'll try and post some NY pictures next week, (Don't worry Admin, I won't post any pictures with people in them! :) ). I hope to make a post about photography soon, I love taking photos! :) Well, talk to everybuggy later! :)

(Admin, just wondering, I made a 4th of July post on Sunday, and I can't find it anywhere! Have you seen it? :) )

I do remember posting one or more comments from you sometime over the weekend, but the days are sort of blurred together.

I visited NYC with my family when I was 8 years old--a long time ago! I remember visiting the Statue of Liberty and seeing a show with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Maybe you can gather with the crowd for one of the morning TV shows: Today, Good Morning, America, or CBS's The Morning Show. We were in the audience for an old quiz show and also saw a Broadway musical. We ate at The Automat, but I don't know if that's still in business. And we went to Coney Island!I remember riding the Steeplechase ride. Have fun and let us know what you do!

That's odd, I was thinking about how few homeless people I saw compared to San Francisco, but then again, I did mainly stay in the Central Park area.  :)

Yes, when I was in SF about a week ago to see Wicked, (see thread in Pudding's Place) I did notice the abundance of homeless people and other not as pleasant night life scenes. :( But, I really do like San Francisco anyway - it's such a great city.

Yes, I love SF!!!!  It's really close (here's where my brother had me listen to what very well could be the weirdest song ever {Penelope by Of Montreal} I liked it) to my hou... well not really close, but about forty/fifty minutes from Santa Rosa, where I live.  I wish I'd known you were around here!  I would have made myself a t-shirt that says "CHATTERBOXER" in big red letters, and strutted around SF trying to find you.  Isn't the theater there super cool????  Did you notice the ceiling?  I was in probably the second to last row in on the grand tier, so I had an overhang above me, so I got a good look of the ceiling.  It was really neat.

Why did you come here to see it?  Do you live nearby?

I was just in San Francisco on Friday!

Yes... walking around at night in certain areas can be a little scary, however, I'm used to it... so it wasn't too bad.  :)

I actually know some places where there is always someone asking for money.  It's really sad.  I just want to help them all, but I'm afraid they'll buy drugs and/or alcohol with the money... and I can't help them all.  I instead plan to do as much for them as I can when I've got enough money.  My cousin actually saw someone there on Friday who had a sign saying "Please give me money so I can buy alcohol."

However, I don't want to put down the city's name.  It's a beautiful place, in fact, one of my favorites.  :)

Of Montreal has even weirder songs than "Penelope" - Have you heard Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games? "Let's have bizarre celebrations" -Admin

@Laura: Yes, SF is awesome!  I've only been there a few times, seeing as I live in the other part of the state (about an hour away from LA), but I've enjoyed it every time. :)  I wasn't in SF very long; I was actually in San Rafael for a guide dog event (I raise guide dogs with the program Guide Dogs for the Blind that's headquarters are located in San Rafael) and we knew that Wicked would be on at the time, so after everything ended in San Rafael, we drove over and saw Wicked!  It was so amazing.

Yes, the Orpheum is AMAZING!!!  Not only the ceiling, but the walls and the seats.  Yeah, it was great.  We had to walk back to our hotel that night, and it was so sad to see all the people asking for money.  But I guess that is a part of big cities, and we can't judge SF just based on that. :D  Yay for SF!

Also, I'll be back up there soon because the guide dog we just raised is about to be paired up with a blind person and he'll have a 'graduation.'  It would be really awesome to meet you, though I don't know if that would ever be possible.  Yeah, we should all have t-shirts with "Chatterboxer" in big red letters!  I'll also be up there each year, because that event is annual and we also have friends in Berkeley.  So there you go! :)

@Admin: I looked up Of Montreal, both the songs mentioned in the last post.  Um... yeah, you could say they are weird, but that's an understatement!

Ooooh, yes, Rachel, you should go!!!  I like the whole atmosphere of the city.  The architecture, the streets, the walkability, the farmer's market, etc.  It is a great city!  I personally prefer it to LA.  Though I like the arts in LA (the LA Phil with Dudamel *squee* there's always the SF Phil with Michael Tilson Thomas *squee*), SF has great arts, too!  Yay!  Okay, I'm not trying to turn this into a Dudamel squeeing post, but it will if I don't stop.  So I will stop. Dudamel!!!

If you go to DC, it's really sad! Every bench in every park is taken by . . . you can guess. Homeless people. And it really bothers me that no one cares about them, when so many people there (not saying the recession has made ANYTHING better...), are able to help them! Admin, and anyone else, is there a reason why so many people, besides the obvious, are homeless? And why don't people help them? Like that them under their wing?

I think most or all cities DO have systems for helping homeless people--shelters, free meals, job training, health clinics, Salvation Army, church centers, etc. But the people have to try to help themselves if they can, ask for help if they need it, and follow the system. There are no easy answers. These are hard times. Some people may be on the streets due to their own substance abuse. They can get help if they make the effort to change their ways.

The thing is, I didn't see barely ANY homeless people in Central Park. Maybe the homeless think there's too many people, too much publicity there. It was mainly the homeless with shopping carts, leaning against random walls, with old soda cans, begging for money. :(

Actually, just this year i went 2 new york city!!!! with my uncle who lives in new york. we went to chinatown and had some AWESOME FOOD at a restaurant there, sry i cant remember the name, and we went 2 this thing called the observatory @ dusk where you can get a great view of the whole city. at the hotel, the rooms were small, of course, but me and my sister would race my mom and the dad on the elevator, 2 the bottom, with me and my sister running down the spiral staircase- IT WAS SEVEN FLOORS! oh and also we did it up, 2. we beat them every time!!!!!!!! we went on a ferry 2 the statue of liberty, it was cool but we didn't have tickets to go up inside, so we just saw it from the outside. at the restaurant there, it was really busy, and how they had it set up was really disorganized :(. but whatever. we also went to ellis island and found my grandma's name on the wall for the people who donated to ellis island. the museum was pretty sweet. lots of HISTORY ... obviously.

well kimberly enjoy ur trip and HAVE FUN!!!!!

The Orpheum was amazing! (I went to San Francisco also to see Wicked - see the Wicked thread.)  All the work was so intricate.  I didn't notice that many homeless people in San Francisco, but definitely in New York City (where I go about once a year because my grandparents live there).   loved San Francisco's houses and buildings, how they're all square and going up the hillsides like steps.  Being from Florida, seeing all the hills and mountains in Southern California was great.
