Camp and NaNo!
Camp and NaNo!
I'm doing Camp NaNo this year, because somebody told me about it and I don't want to wait until November.
I'm also PAing at my girl scout camp (yeah, lame, but it's still amazing) and I need a name. I used my Cricket name last year, L, and it went over ok. But I need something new and exciting!
This is the Thread of Many Topics That Somehow Fit Together - The captcha says "fvva" right now and that sounded like a cool name.
I need a name for my main character, and I am Fresh Out. (This is how Camp NaNo fits into this.) Somebody help? He's a 20-year-old guy from Finland, around about modernish times.
And I don't want to call him Nikolas. I've already bequeathed that name to his bro. I can't change it, either.
--L (I noticed people had cute little signatures and I wanted one too.)
Markus Leminem was is a figure skater from Finland. Also Petri Koko. You could use one of those first names.

The only thing I know about Finland is where it is on a map. And it's capital. (Helsinki right?)

Yep yeps to the Helsinki.
Weird name time!
Felix (like the cat, unless you can get somebody else to be Felicis)
Hiccup
Gir (yes, Gir.)
Dino
Bubbles
Hedwig
Twiggy (The only guy... he was PA for the guy's unit obviously)
Bacon (somebody was Bacon at my GS camp last year... it was pretty amazing)
A make of car (I was Cadillac!)
Some sort of animal name
Maybe characters from somewhere?
Country names work pretty well for some people. A few years ago, somebody I knew said they were Britain (she even had a REAL British accent!) and people liked that.
Ranks! Like Captain or Lieutenant or Corporal or something.
Mysterious initials that you don't reveal until the end
Et cetera.
Chickuu says erxb. I don't think you're helping, Chicky.

Thanks guys! Those sound like great names... I think I'll fly with Markus.
Now, for PA names... I've come across a cool list of categories that people have used for names in the past, including but not limited to: cartoon characters, characters from books, foods, colors, machine parts (I think I could pull off a Widget), and many more weird ones.
I'll keep looking though.

Hedwig?! Awesome!!!
Anyway... I might do NaNo in November, but I kind of doubt it, because typing and revising my book is going to take a while. Not during summer, though...
I'm going to a Girl Scouts camp for three days, at one point. My troop is a school troop, which is basically what makes it awesome! Not all Girl Scouts are stereotypical, especially older ones in school troops. We don't wear uniforms, for one.

I'm doing NaNo too, but it hasn't gone so well, I'm about 2k behind because I've had finals and I'm not in the mood to write right now -.-
AND OMG I'M GONNA PA TOO. AT A GS CAMP :O That's freaky weird. When are you doing it? It would be even freakier and weirder if it was the same one! :D
And the CAPTCHA is aopx. Has anyone else noticed that instead of just flat writing out aopx, it's all bendy and stuff, like 3D almost, but it's not o.O Or maybe my computer is just messed up.

WHOA! That is pretty cool. June (wait, i need to find a calendar...) 18th. All week.
Is it a day camp? Because that's what I'm doing. It would be pretty amazing if we ended up going to the same camp.
And yeah. I'm about as far behind as you are in NaNo. I'll probably get about halfway through, let it sit until August, then do that again. And if I don't get it done after August... well, there's always November. I *hope* it doesn't come to that.
My captcha box is saying vhoy really bendily. I don't think 'bendily' is a word though...

Okay guys. I have about 300 words so far. Because all the teachers in my school seem to LOVE having a bunch of projects and tests at the end of the year. (science, math, english, french- which is a big subject at my school)
(June 6, 2012 - 5:37 pm)
My NaNo is going pretty good compared to last November. :) I have 12,862 words. Yay! I've had a lot of time on my hands. *chuckles embarrassedly* (<-- is that a word?) But I won't be able to get to my computer tomorrow or the next day, so I might fall behind while everyone else is typing away... :|
Spammy says ywat. Why? What? I don't know, Spammy. I don't know.
(June 6, 2012 - 8:43 pm)
I have been cannily avoiding my NaNo by typing about one sentence every time I remember to click over to that tab. I can tell myself yes! I swear I'm working on it! but really I'm just going mrrh.
I really should get back to it...

Mine is on another computer that I'm too lazy to turn on. My computer key is in my locker and I'm ALSO too lazy to save it onto Dropbox. So at least you've written something this week. ;)

But I'm still falling waaaay behind.
(June 10, 2012 - 11:01 am)
I'm a GS, but I've never ever been to one of their camps. Who are PAs and why do they have odd names?
(June 9, 2012 - 5:37 pm)
I'm a girl scout too, but I'm not PA-ing this year. I did it last year, but this year I'm not going to be around. I used Winky as my camp name, as in the house-elf. You could use a character from a book that you like. I'm also going to a week-long campout sort of thing with my troop, for the 100th anniversery, but I don't think I need a camp name for that.
Melody- P.A stands for Programe Aid, and that means you help out with the younger girls, and run their activities. They have weird names because... well I don't really know why. We just have always had camp names and not used our real ones. Usually, the younger girls know each other's names, but aren't supposed to use them. The PAs don't tell the younger girls their real names, though, for some reason.
At least, that's how it works at the camp I've been to.
(June 10, 2012 - 4:21 pm)
Basically what it is is a guessing game. The girls know each others' names, and the PAs make up cute little fake names to use. Sometimes the girls try and guess the PAs names before we tell them on the last day, but they're almost always wrong.
((I put "Erin" on the bottom of my sunscreen last year and left it for one of the girls to find. She was all excited, hopping around and saying "I know L's real name! I know L's real name!" But then Friday came, and I'm all, "My real name is Leah!" And they're like WHAAA? Which was very funny.))
