Olympics

What is your favorite sport that they do? I love the gymnastics. it's just amazing to see what they can do! :D I also love all the swimming and diving. Did any of you see the synchronized diving? It was amazing even though it got a little scary. :)

I'm really looking forward to synchronized swimming!

I love synchronized diving, which I am watching right now.  I also like beach volleyball.   And of course, I like swimming and gymnastics.  I never really liked regular volleyball, but I have to admit, it's growing on me.  This year I also started watching water polo, canoeing, and sailing.  Those I find kind of interesting.  I don't like many normal sports.:)

The synchronized diving is so cool! I'm watching swimming (glad Ryan Lochte managed to beat Phelps a few times, although the latter's medal count just blows me away) and gymnastics (can't wait to see who's going to win the women's all-around tonight!) I caught a little archery too (although the bow doesn't even look like a bow anymore). I wanted to see some fencing as well, although they don't really show that...

I like everything at the Olympics.  Does anybody else here think Ryan Lochte shows a small resemblance to Josh Hutcherson in the Hunger Games movie?  I do.

@ Gollum:

Maybe a sliiiiiiight resemblance, although I wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it.

@Gollum: Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks that. xD

I love watching swimming. Tara Van Beilen went to school nearby. :D She almost got into the finals! And there's Missy Franklin and Yi Wenshin (sp?).

Gymnastics is cool to watch obviously, and trampoline and synch. diving. Have they started synch. swimming? It hasn't been on TV often.

I can't wait for T&F! :D :D :D

Synchronized swimming is this coming week, I think Sunday, Monday, Tues, Thurs, Fri. I'm going to try to watch it live online at 9 am Central time, I think, each day. The schedule is posted online. I have no way of knowing how much of it will be shown on TV, and I'm really enjoying watching as much as I can live online.

Oh cool! Synchronized swimming also sounds awesome. Michael has the most Olympic medals in history - 21! It's amazing but now he wants to take a break. :P Did any of you see Gabi Douglas from the USA? She got gold in gymnastics. She was unbelievable. There's one thing that confuses me in the Olympics: how does the scoring work? They get really weird numbers, like 14.332 or something like that.

Scoring in some sports is very complicated. I believe in gymnastics, each routine is given a value beforehand according to how difficult it is. I assume that means that each trick has a certain base value. Then for every little bit that is less than perfect (toe not pointed, step on landing, etc.), points (sometimes just .01 or even less, I imagine) are deducted. I am not an authority on this, it's just my understanding from watching some online and on TV. Yes, I saw Gabi win. Did you also see the anagram of her last name?

DOUGLAS = USA GOLD

How awesome! I wonder if anyone noticed that before she won.

I've done a bit of synchronized swimming. Like figure skating, it combines my love of sport with beautiful music. But sync swimming is really hard. I only did the very simplest of moves in a group. I get breathless just watching team competition from home.

I heard that the USA team did not qualify for the Olympics, in case anyone is looking for them. The US does have a duet at the Olympics. The teams that will be competing are amazing. Figure skater Robin Cousins has mentored the British team, and some of the moves they will do are based on figure skating lifts. Yes, synchronized swimmers perform lifts, tossing people up in the air, even though they are not allowed to touch the bottom of the pool!

I knew a girl in middle school who did Synchronized Swimming! I never actually saw her swim, but I do know that she has many hours of practice and that she loves it!

My favorite sport was Gymnastics and probably swimming as well. I liked Missy Franklin a lot. She seemed like such a nice girl and she was a senior in high school!

There was also another swimmer for Minnesota but I forgot her name. But either way, I thought it was very exciting that there was someone from Minnesota swimming for the USA!
