Chatterbox: Down to Earth
May the fourth
May the fourth be with you and Free Comic Book day.
Was anyone else aware of these great events? May fourth is not only Star Wars day but also free comic book day, since it is the first Saturday of May! I went to my first comic book store, and I feel like I can officially call myself a comic book geek. And Star Wars is just awesome.
Cappie says "zreo." Zero? Cappie, I would rate today above a zero!!! Comics, more comics, and Star Wars! Nothing better!

Aw, man! I didn't get to go to a comic store today! Can't wait for Star Wars 7.
And now to kill the thread.

No, I did not know that. Happy Cinco de Mayo and World Laughter Day! Hahahaha!

Huh. I didn't know this. But then again, this is no surprise, fors *gasp (and a good friend will probably kill me for this)* I have never read or even picked up a comic book. I haven't watched Star Wars, and I've never read a comic book...

BHR, I think Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud is a great comic book explaining comic books, plus a little on why art in general exists, and I believe it is a must-read for any artist in any medium, not just comics.
Also, I recommend the graphic novel Robot Dreams, which is a GREAT example of how comic books don't have to be JUST about superheroes and punching. There are no words in it, just pictures, arranged in a sequence, telling a great story. That's really all comics have to be to qualify as comics, a point Scott McCloud makes in his book (which I know Theo owns).

You've read Scott McCloud? *Cheers* UNDERSTANDING COMICS is great. I haven't picked it up in a while though.....
I also have to comment on Robot Dreams, which is also awesome. It was sad, though. Something similar is OWLY. Yes, I read OWLY. (It's good. Again, you can blame Steve) Those are also wordless pannels. So yeah. I had to comment on that.

Understanding Comics is amazing. I wish all our textbooks were like that.
(May 13, 2013 - 3:49 pm)
I know! That would be awesome! If all text books were comic books.....
Cappies says "Zaga." Hmm. Who's Zaga, Cappie? Are you Zaga?
(May 13, 2013 - 4:52 pm)
You should call your captcha Zaga now, Theo, since he has asked for the name.
And Rodney says pvxe.
(May 14, 2013 - 10:43 am)
Agreed.
Zaga says "tmex" Time expires? I don't think so, Zaga....

I would totally pay attention in class. Although I would probably get in trouble for reading ahead. Also, the great thing about comic books is that they're such quick reading, so you could just read the text book a couple times and doing all these annoying and boring worksheets.
(May 14, 2013 - 6:17 pm)
Exactly. Of course, once about 60/160 books are comics, you know you need to calm down.
Sometimes, I honestly don't see why you would get in trouble for reading ahead. The teachers should just say "Read to chapter five or finish the book!" The world would be a much happier place.

Happy Hanko de Mayo!

Didn't know about this until the 5th but I'm not much of a Star Wars fan. But Bad Wolf Day is June 3. Space junk is from all the spaceships the Doctor exploded (sorry I'm crazy right now) but anyway my best guy friend was all excited about this.
