So guess what,

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

So guess what,

So guess what, guys?! I have gone and broken my nose! I was boogieboarding on vacation, when the waves were getting kinda rough. So I was about to come in, when a 6-8 foot wave crashed down on me. I was thrown forward face first onto my board, and came up soaking blood. The lifeguards got me in an ambulance, and I was taken to the Hospital. Now evidently, if I can write this, I'm fine. SO NO PANICKING! But has anyone else done anything like this? Any tips how to get through the next few days? Anyways, all good, headache, and tired of waiting for x-ray results.

Oooh, BHR, we're so sorry. Just follow doctor's orders and let us know how you're doing. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

So sorry, I tried to post last night here but my mom kicked me off the computer!

BHR, so sorry you busted your nose! I reccomend that while you recover, you begin (or continue, if the introduction has already begun) an introduction to comic books. Good reccomendations: The Oz adaptations by Eric Shanower and Skottie Young, Robot Dreams, and Smile by Raini Telgemeier (which I've only read part of (Daffodil has, though), but it's about the author's personal experiences in sixth grade and I'm confident you'll like it from what I've seen of it).

I've never had something like this happen to me before, but Daffodil busted her chin open some weeks ago while skating roller derby, and then she had six stictches at the hospital. It looked COOL (it's a 14-year-old boy thing, thinking his sister's stitches looked cool), and she might have more advice for you.

Better post before I waste too much time on this! Good luck with your recovery BHR!

Oh my goodness! I hope you get better soon, BHR! I wish I could tell you what to do for the next few days, but I've never hurt myself like that. All I can say is to get rest and follow the doctor's orders.

Thanks, Admins! And thanks, JtSF, I'll keep those in mind. And tell Daffodil I feel for her! I'm definitely doing a lot of reading, and I was slightly wonky at first. But doin better now, and am up and doing things. I actually hardly notice it, until something even gently touches my face, and then I'm instantly reminded. All in all, though, not so bad.

Wow, poor you.

I've never broken anything, but once (when we had just lost our turtle [we had two, now we only have one] and we were looking for it) I got a super-mega spilnter and it went really deep, so my dad had to get some carving knives and cut it out. All I remember was that there was alot of blood and it really hurt. I screamed my lungs out the whole time :D. So I know how it feels to have something really hurt.

I didn't really do anything to make it stop hurting, since I had to search for my pet turtle at six o'clock the next morning (they usually come out at sun-up and we needed to find her, else she would die. We never did though, and we have no idea what happened to her), so it hurt like (very bad word) for the next few weeks and I couldn't walk. My older brothers or dad carried me everywhere and I got babied for a few days.

Just don't focus on it and think about something else. Then it won't hurt as much, or rather, you won't notice the hurt as much. Get something engaging. Like a book. Books are my solution to everything.

Hope your nose is better soon!

Ouch, that sounds painful.  Reading is the best thing I would recommend, which you have taken already in large doses.

Thank you everyone! @ Corina: *shudders* That sounds just AWFUL! I'm so glad nothing like that happened! Yeah, I was covered in blood, though I didn't really feel it. I was sort of in shock. Everyone was worried I might have a spine or neck injury, despite the fact that I had in fact walked back to the beach, hands in the air, saying : QUITE FREAKING I'M FINE! Heck, I had the best disposition of anyone. Everyone else was absolutely freaking out. Well, I'll take that back. I kinda freaked out when my dad touched my nose and I HEARD AND FELT it move. At that point, I nearly vomited. But after that I calmed down. The worst part was being on the body board. For those who don't know, I have never been so uncomfortable in my whole life. Those things are just painful! I don't know how anyone could ever stand it!!!!

But anyways, thanks for the encouragement, and I certainly won't stop writing!!! Besides, if I can recount these events so detailed, I must be all right. And yes, I'm doing lots and lots of reading! ;)

@JtSF: I've been meaning to write on the Rick Riordan thread, and shall do so now.

OUCH! That sounds like that hurt! Sorry you busted your nose! (My four year old self tells me it isn't very fun.)

Yeah, that's what I remember from busting my nose. I was four, and I remebering screaming and a cheery lollipop. So my recommendation: LOLLIPOPS. Sorry, that's all I've got.

Zaga says "Jade!" Well, Zaga, I guess I'll have to start calling you Zaga Jade.

Ouch! That sounds bad! I've never broken a bone, actually. The worst thing I've done was fall down a vent! (long story). Let's just say I was grabbing my trumpet, my leg fell down the vent on the floor, the grate came up and scratched me on the bottom of my chin and chest. 5th grade, lots of things happen!

ANYWAY hope you feel better!

Ouch!!! That must hurt so bad! I haven't broken my nose, but I have broken my arm three times, so I know how much broken thinks hurt. Plus, it must be really hard to do anything without hurting it! I recommend reading, and watching Anne of Green Gables movies!

Hi, Blonde Heroines Rule! Sorry about your nose.

Here are my suggestions:

If there's going to be a scar, you should rub salve on it every day (once it heals) to help make it (the scar) less noticeable. I'm using calendula on my scar. Also put sunscreen on it.

I was taking some herbal tinctures from my mom for anti-infection powers-- I'm pretty sure it was yarrow. However, I'm not sure if your mom does that kind of thing... But it's good to NOT get an infection. Try not to weaken your immune system with sugar.

I got an infection from my little cut and had to stay overnight in the hospital for IV antibiotics, which was not a good experience. I got to play Rummy till 11:00 with my dad, though!

Otherwise, have a good time resting & reading. If you have to stay in bed, at least you can catch up on lost sleep!

Thanks everyone, and thanks Daffodil. I'll remember those. I don't think there will be a scar since I wasn't really cut, but it's a bit too soon to tell. Though I do need to be careful of infection because the doctor was worried the blood clot might become infected on the inside. Which unnerved me greatly, I might add. That, and I had to switch up my pain killers. And be careful of fever and comas. All because I got smacked in the face with a boogieboard. Thankfully, I DON'T have to stay on bed rest! I read a lot, but I'm constantly outside, playing around, doing things like that. Heck, the day after it happened, I climbed a lighthouse! The hardest part is I simply can't look down. Something about the blood rushing in my head in gravity make me sore. So that caused a small problem trying to get down the lighthouse without looking down (now THAT should be an Olympic sport).

But all in all, I'm good! Gotta go in for more visits to the doctor, but no one's overly worried.

But thanks for the sympathy everyone!!!! Smile ♥♥♥♥

Ouch! I hope your nose gets better soon! I never have broken anything before so I guess I am not much help but one thing you could do is read and read and read. You can never read to much. Oh and sleep. One of my friends on minecraft broke her nose before but she never did say much about it (she gets in fights all the time). Well I hope you get better!
