Dinner Party

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Dinner Party

Dinner Party

So there's one class I have at school that's kind of weird... (but fun) and we were given an assignment to make a dinner party. There are six seats at the table--the head, the tail, and two seats on each side. You need to invite six people (five, including yourself), seat them at the table, explain who you choose, why you choose them, where they're sitting, and why they're sitting there. I haven't quite thought through my dinner party yet, but I think I know who I'm going to invite.

Another rule: You can invite anyone, a fictional character, a real person, alive or dead. And they can be robots. I asked that in class because that's what I might do.

So who would you invite to your fictional dinner party? Bonus question: What would you serve? Why? Is there a certain theme for your dinner party?

Zaga says "Zoen." Zoe's not invited, huh, Zaga? I don't know any Zoes, so.... yeah.

submitted by Theo W.
(November 14, 2013 - 5:10 pm)

Well, I personally would invite myself at the head of the table, my friend (let's call her Molly) at the tail (well, I say foot, but you said tail, Theo, so I'll just say tail) of the table, Percy Jackson would be seated next to Annabeth on the right side, and Harry Potter would be seated in one chair on the other side. The last chair, next to Harry Potter, would be occupied by a spider monkey.

You might infer that I enjoy the PJO series and the HP series very much.

You are correct.

Annabeth and Percy are by far my favorite characters from PJO, and plus, they're like a team, so obviously they'd sit together. I only chose Harry from HP because there's, like, no other character I'd want to be at my dinner party, so...yeah.

Plus, Molly is awesome and she BRINGS THE PARTY. There is no party without Molly. That's like planting a flower without seeds.

Oh, and the spider monkey is just to keep us company. And entertained.

Bonus question: I would serve Turkish Delight and enchiladas. And popcorn. Why? Because 1) Turkish Delight is from another one of my fave books, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, but I couldn't choose just one character for the table. So Turkish Delight sort of makes up for that. 2) Who doesn't like enchiladas? Just saying. And 3) Popcorn is my favorite food! Oh! And the theme would be Spider Monkey Enchilada Popcorn Literature Cricket-Lovers! (I came up with that myself. Nice, huh? *flips hair*)

So, yeah! That's it! :D

See Y'all!

Ooh, this is neat! Hmm...

I would invite:

Anne Shirley

Katy Carr

Shannon Messenger

Leo Valdez

Merida

All but Shannon are fictional characters! I would seat myself at the head since I'm the host. Anne would sit to my right, with Katy next to her. On my left would be Shannon and next to her Merida, and Leo would sit at the tail.

As to what I would serve? Hmm. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables, biscuits, sweet tea. For desert, chocolate cake and apple pie, hot chocolate.

Why those ridiculously fattening things? Cause I like them, and I love southern cooking! Simple as that.

Taday! Cappie just swore at me.

*Ahem*.

I will invite myself, of course, and I shall be at the head. I will also invite a caterar (however you spell that), architect, carpenter, person with a great deal of money who wouldn't mind giving me some of that money, and a party planner. We shall discuss the big plan and then the architect and carpenter will get to work expanding the room and table very much. Why? Because I'm having a very big dinner party with a great many people.

The guest list (in no particular order):

Theo

I bet I forgot someone. Darn it, I always try to compile a list of awesome peoples and then I leave off half the Chatterbox. Sorry, half. You guys are all invited too, I just can't remember your name at the moment. When you arrive at the dinner party, please slap me in the face. A lot of these people are old friends that I used to know or Ruby told me about (interesting Ruby quote: "Reading back in the old pages is painful because I sound so feminine.") but there's plenty of new and current people too!

Now, for the food. There's a lot of us, so there will have to be a wide variaty of foods. We'll have chips, popcorn, corn on the cob, roast beef (I really like that for some reason), pizza, curry, brioche (well, I am hosting this), cupcakes (just for you, SC!), cake, pie, pasta, sausage, broccoli, cauliflower, baked squash, steamed squash, cantalope, mango, watermelon (Don't worry, Watermelon, I won't eat you!), honeydew, apples, pears, banannas, Turkish Delight, bread, sweet breads, anpan (it's like a roll filled with sweet bean paste. I think. I might be thinking of something else.), saataa andaagii, carrots, salami, danish, streudel, roasted pumpkin seeds, hotdogs, hamburgers, french fries, oranges, soups, stews, ramen, udon, soba, steamed dumplings, pork buns, beef buns, banana buns (they exist, at least according to Tomo-chan), milk, soda, water, juices, salsa, veggie wraps, spring rolls, veggie rolls, sandwiches, string cheese, all kinds of cheeses, quinoa (why not?), dinner rolls, popovers, beans, cereal, shave ice, snow cones, ice cream, gelato, sorbet, Mary Poppin's delicious tasting medicine, oysters, those roll thingies they eat in that one chapter in Marry Poppins when she's off with the Match Man (don't remember what they were called, but they looked delicious), chocolate truffles, tea, coffee, various condiments, salads, candy of all kinds, bouillabasse (it's that French dish that Fleur borrows from Gryyfindor's table in book four), chicken, turkey, ham, cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes, hot chocolate and the Tuning Fork in case you want something that I didn't include on this monster of a list. If you read through this entire menu, you are amazing.

The theme: fun. And having a good time. I would love to eventually host a party kind of like this in a very Westing-ish way. It would be amazingly fun and I ould really love to get the chance to meet you guys. Anyway, I just want to thank you all for the awesome times I've had here! I can't begin to express how much you mean to me. Please take this dinner party that I spent the better part of an hour typing up as my thanks.

Red,

Well, first of all, I read your entire thing (sheesh, you write A LOT). *gasp* YOU REMEMBERED MY NAME?! I REMEMBERED YOURS TOO! Small world. Why, thank you for inviting me. A very nice dinner party we shall have.

Also! Of course you serve Turkish Delight. Bet you got that from me, huh? I mean, I don't blame you. I do *sighs and flips hair even though it's in a bun* have amazing ideas.

Aaaaaand, yes, anpan is a roll with red bean paste in it. It's quite delicious. Quinoa is delicious, too. I'm not kidding. It's sorta like rice. And last but not least, the things Mary Poppins was eating were called "raspberry jam cakes," to be specific. Yummy.

As far as I can see, we shall have an excellent dinner party. See ya, Red.

I want to add, naturally, all the CBers are invited. I can't list all your names, for forgive, I honestly can't remember! At times I can't even remember my best friend's own name. But all the CBers and Admins go without saying.

I also want Cat Royal there, and I'm sure she will be the life of the party! (I think only Corina will get that.)

Aww thank you for inviting all of us.  If I didn't have a guest limit to a party, I would definitely invite all of you.  That would be wicked awesome.

The venue: dimly lit, to accommodate the light sensitivity of several of the guests and to allow for ambiance. The floorboards are bare; the table sits diagonally in the center of the room. None of the six chairs match—this is important. There is a table cloth, clean white, and pewter settings unless the caterers should be taken ill that night, in which case ceramics will be substituted. Candles will not be allowed, since the guests largely cannot be trusted with them.

The guests are as follows:

At the head, the Hatter as portrayed by Kate Shindle. She will also function as the emcee and caterer, as she will have poisoned them all for this purpose by the night of the event.

On the Hatter's left sits Margolotta von Überwald on a child's chair. The chair MUST be painted pumpkin-orange in her honor—this is important.

On her Ladyship's left sits Carlisle Cullen with a stethoscope hanging from his neck. Nobody really wants him there, but there wasn't enough in the budget for a disco ball and so the necessary substitutions were made.

To the left of Dr. Cullen is the diary of Tom Riddle. The necessary arrangements for the placement of Ginny Weasley's comatose body will be made prior to the event.

On Mr. Riddle's left is the elusive Mr. Godot, whose RSVP will have at this point been checked and re-checked a multitude of times. He will, of course, be punctual.

To the left of Mr. Godot is Vivienne Kensington. The topic of Law will be off-limits for the duration of the event, save for the three and three-quarter minutes leading up to eleven o'clock, at which point strawberry tarts will be lowered from the ceiling on silver platters.

The Hatter as portrayed by Elizabeth Carena will act as the centerpiece for the night. She will not move; anyone who says otherwise has been drinking entirely too much tea.

The menu, to account for the varied dietary requirments of the guests, will comprise tea, canapés, salad, and blood pudding. The aforementioned strawberry tarts will prove edible only to the Wonderlanders, who will be unable to eat them for fear of reprisal from the Queen of Hearts.

Entertainment will commence at fourteen minutes past ten precisely. Untrained and unrehearsed actors and musicians will be rounded up from the streets of Storybrooke, Maine, at exactly ten o'clock, following which they will be given instructions and released onto holding tank beneath the stage until showtime. Improvisation will be forbidden.

No one will be allowed to leave until the hostess makes an appearance if, indeed, she chooses to do so. Accordingly, the doors will be locked and barred from the outside.

I leave it to all of you to supply the "why." Suffice it to say the mealtime conversation will be spectacular.

(for those of you who aren't involved in ALL my fandoms [er, all of you], in order: Wildhorn's Wonderland, Discworld, Twilight, Harry Potter, Waiting for Godot, Legally Blonde: The Musical, and bonus appearances by Then She Fell and Once Upon a Time)

This would definitely have to be a costume party.

The head: Me dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, because I went as that for Halloweeen.

The tail: My mum. She'd have to cook the dinner—I have no cooking talents—and she's a perfect hostess. I have no idea what she'd wear.

The left: Tom Hiddleston as Loki, obviously. I'd ask him to dance for us all after the dinner. Beside him would be Viggo Mortensen in his Aragorn character. I have an absurd curiosity as to how they would act if they met each other—and how their characters would ...

The right: Blonde Heroines Rule would come as Annabeth and Joe the Stickfiddler in his character of choice. I'd love to meet them in real life!

There is no rhyme or reason for those place settings.

submitted by Everinne, age 14, Table
(November 16, 2013 - 5:36 pm)

Let's see... Six people...

1. Moi.  The party don't start till I walk in.  Duh.

2. Ariel.  This should be a given.

3. Edgar Allan Poe, for later on in the darkness of a thunder storm, to tell us scary stories.  Hopefully he isn't cranky that day.

4. An Imagineer or Disney animator from the fifties or sixties.  Mary Blair, Rolly Crump, Mark Davis, Alice Davis, Marty Sklar, or even Ken Anderson would be cool, but I'm up for anyone involved in what I consider my favorite part of Disney history.

5. John Green because Nerdfighter.

6. Hank Green because Nerdfighter.

I think if I got to pick the venue, we would be at Disney World.  If we can do fictional places, then definitely Escher's Keep (from Kingdom Keepers), this really cool place in Cinderella's Castle.

We'd have an Italian food buffet and a Chinese food buffet because who doesn't love that stuff?  Of course, the Chinese food would include stuff for Ariel.  Poe would just have to be adventurous and try new food because I am not bringing in period appropriate food just for him.  He can deal.

Oh my gosh, Escher's Keep would SUCH a cool place to hold a dinner party!

Btw, have you been checking out the Insider page lately? I haven't, I was just wondering if anything major was happening.

(November 18, 2013 - 2:06 pm)

The party shall be held in a dark room. Thick curtains on the windows will block any light from entering; all light shall be provided by candles on the table in large candleholders for effect. Mothy is all about effect. The table is adorned with a simple white tablecloth and the chairs are of the white wicker garden variety with simple cushions on all of them, except for the chair to the host's right- that one is silk as to not offend her Majesty.

At the head of the table, I will be presiding because this is going to be my mad dinner party and I dearly want to sit at the head. I just do.

The foot of the table will taken by Mothy himself whom I am inviting because I am inviting a number of characters from his Evillious Chronicles. I hope he will enjoy the chance to meet some of his characters in person.

On my left sits the Waiter. The Waiter is my favorite character in this entire series. She is just amazing. Plus, Theo, you didn't say we had to invite only humans, so I can invite her.

Next to the Waiter is Irina Clockworker in her Original Sin Series body. She will be forced to swear magical oaths not to hurt anyone here. I like Irina. A lot. That's pretty much the reason why everyone is here. I like them and want to ask them questions.

On the right are Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche and her brother Allen Avadonia. I like both of these characters immensly so that is why they are here. Hopefully, the Waiter, who is the reincarnation of Riliane will be able to exist at the same dinner party as Riliane. If not, hopefully Irina can use her magical powers to figure something out. Or mothy can just use his author powers to make something work.

Arte will be serving us. Technically, she's dead, but so are half of the people here as well.

The menu is as follows: A piece of brioche will be served to each guest before the dinner officially begins. I would serve some item served by the Waiter in Evil's Theater, but, funnily enough, the Waiter never seems to actually do her job. She just complains about it and tells Gammon Octo to hurry up and do chores for her. There will be seven courses. The first course will be comprised of purple edible flowers such as violet, borage, and mint flowers. The second course will be a pomegranate seed salad served in glasses. The third course will be comprised of delicate salt crystals. The fourth course will be a "gift" for whoever wants it. I'm sure no one will want it, but it's offered to complete the set of courses. The fifth course will be spring water. The sixth course will be a selection of soils and sands to taste. Finally, the seventh course will be fruits in the shape of a key. The fruits don't really have that much symbolism as the seventh course. I just kind of needed to fit them in somewhere.

The party shall begin at three o'clock. Church bells will ring, singeling the beginning.

The whole purpose of this, of course, is to ask the guests questions. Firstly, I want to ask the Waiter what her relationship with the Irregular is. I also want to know what life is like in Evil's Theater for the average Awakened Sin, and what the Master of the Heavenly Yard is. I want to ask Irina pretty much everything but I doubt she'll answer. I want to ask Riliane about her death and Alexiel about his. Wait, did I call him Allen up at the top? Allen, Alexiel, same thing. They're just two different names for the same guy. And brioche. Why does Riliane like brioche so much? And what was it like for Allen growing up? Finally, finally, I'd ask Mothy if he and Irregular are the same person-thing and for the love of all that is holy, when is he going to write Wrath's song? And will the Evillious Chronicles ever end?

submitted by Ruby M., age 14, The Dinner Party
(November 17, 2013 - 10:42 pm)

Everything I know has been a lie. In the Evillious Chronicles, each of the Seven Deadly Sins is represented by an item, or "vessel". All this time I thought that Sloth was the spring and Envy was the wind, but, apparantly, those are switched! Which makes me wonder: in the song "Chrono Story", there is a list of all the sins and their vessels and Envy is after Sloth in the song, but in all other listings, Sloth is after Envy! What is this? Why are they switched? How could you do this to me, mothy? My favorite song is out of order with the rest of the series! My life is a lie!

How did it take me two whole months to realize this, anyway?

I don't know who would sit where but anyway:

- Ruby
- the doctor
- TNO
- Red
- The Doctor (like the actual BBC character, preferably in his 10th or 11th incarnation)

Also this is if I could only invite five. If I could invite all of you then I would

I'm not going to be at the head for a reason, that you shall see if you continue reading this.

The head will be the amazing Anne Hathaway. She is my favorite actress. She is Sooo funny and talented and beautiful, I. Must. Meet. Her!

To her left will be the PERFECT Aaron Tveit (yes, those too are both from Les Mis) Aaron is an amazing singer, actor, Fiyero from what I see online, and he is just perfect. It's creepy that he is 30 and I'm 12, but if you see "The Ghost Of Teenaged Future" or whatever on Vlogbrothers, it explains.

Next to Aaron will be Jon Cozart, because he is like the male version of me. He's funny, nerdy, theater freak, and really cute. Again, he's older than me (21) and his YouTube is Paint.

The tail will be Nancy Drew, because she's like my role model and I am a Nancy Drew freak.

To the right of Anne will be me, for various reasons like ITS MY DINNER PARTY!! Yeah, I'm right. Unless I get murdered like in Clue...We all know who would do it....(coughcoughMelodycoughcough)

And then next to me will be Peter Pan. For many reasons. That I shall not say. Let's just say there is a reason for my location (MELODY IF YOU SAY ANYTHING I WILL SPILL ABOUT YOU AND HIM...YOU KNOW WHO!!!) And Peter hopefully will look like Robbie Kay in Once Upon a Time.

Location: Ummm Neverland? I have no clue.

Food: EVERYFOOD IN THE WORLD!! I shouldn't give a list, it would be too long, I like food.

Theme:NONE!!!! I don't have a theme just fun.
