Fitness .. health .. etc.

Hey guys ! So this year is the first year I've ever really worked out and played a sport and I love it . I'm in track , and I also work out a lot outside of school . My mom works at a gym , and the owner is one of our friends ( and he's also a certified personal trainer , so he's been training my track team ) so whenever he doesn't have a client he says we can go work out ...

Anyway , I really love it . Before now , I hated working out . I hated the buring sensation , I hated the stomach cramps , I hated the soreness and I just all around disliked intense physical activity . But , little by little I started working out , and then I joined the track team , then I started doing MMA ( which is PURE cardio ) , and now I work out whenever I want . So I work out about 11 or 12 hours a week . I can honestly see a difference . I hardly ever get sore , my stomach no longer cramps ( that was due to incorrect breathing ) , I'm A LOT stronger , my muscles are like really defined and I just love it . Working out gives me a sort of high .

Working out is MY time to focus on ME . It's how I let go of all the stress around me , and how I focus on myself and God .  This is really something I'm passionate about . Physical health is something I pray upon everyone . Especially kids . . . it breaks my heart when I see overweight kids . Now that's not being condescending or judgmental , I honestly feel so sad for those kids because it's not their fault . It's the parent's fault . And even then it's not quite , because in America we have things backwards . The trash , unhealthy food is the inexpensive stuff but the healthy food is what is unfortunately out of budget for many people ( hey , I'm talking from experience . We struggle with this too ) .

I have 13% body fat , I'm 106.8 lbs , and I'm 5'2 , and I can lift probably 40 or 50 lbs of dead weight . I can run about 50 meters in 10.7 seconds .. so I'd say I'm pretty in shape lol . I honestly feel like Sports Medicine is something I could do as a career .. I love seeing people succeed and seeing people work hard to acheive their goals .

Well .. I really  don't know where I was going with this thread lol . I guess does anyone feel the same ? What's your favorite type of workout ? What sport do you play ?

Oh by the way , I like upper body ( so core and arms ) . My favorite workouts are Russians , V-Ups , crunches , towers , planks , and running .

(This kind of goes along with this thread : http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/downtoearth/node/131395 , lol )

I've sort of started working out. I try to jog or ride my bike every day, and I try to do regular sit-ups and push-ups. I do it to get stronger for archery, and also cause I feel/think I should lose weight.

This year my best friend persuaded me to join Cross Country (running). At first I didn't want to join, but now that I did, I had a great season! We ran through nice neighborhoods and stayed undefeated for the season. Now, practices are optional, so I don't run anymore. I liked our team because we had fast runners and not fast ones (like me) but we were a great team.

I LOVE excercise. I do track at school and I ride my bike after school every day, rain, shine, or snow. Gym is one of my favorite subjects at school, next to reading and writing, of course. I also stretch every morning when I wake up. And no, I don't mean that stretch you do when you're tired; I mean real stretches - arms and legs. I've always been short and skinny, and excercising isn't to lose weight for me; it's healthy for everyone. It makes me feel good to be active and working hard, and it pays off. I've always been underweight (I'm 74 pounds) and short (I'm just on the edge of 5 feet tall), but that doesn't mean I don't have to excercise. Everyone should!

When I was younger, I used to love the challenge of a team. I was competitive, and set high goals for myself. Even when I was playing with some friends, I would be challenging myself to do as well as, if not better than the boys and girls. Especially the boys. I didn't want to look weak because I was a girl.

But, when I was nine or ten, I got a cold that, while it was not a bad one, left me with a  bad cough for months. The cough eventually faded away, but if I ran to hard, or played to hard, I would get a bad cough, who knows how long. It keeps getting worse. Before, it was rare for it to happen, but now, I doubt I can run the length of my block at a moderate speed without coughing.

I used to play softball when I was younger. Every year from when I was four until I was ten or eleven. The games were getting to late, and I was coughing when I ran. I was sad to leave, but I knew that softball didn't hold the fun as it used to. I don't do any sports any more. I can't run so fast, and I don't get outside very much. My father says that I should start a sport or something for an extracurricular activity (yes, I'm being forced) for school.  We were going to do either speech group or martial arts/yoga. But Toastmasters, the only local speech group, is for 18+, so we're probably going to do martial arts or sorts.

The other night, my family and I went down to the high school track near us, and we played half-court soccer. We used only one net, and about a fourth of the field. Mostly, we made it up as we went, but it was so fun. Butterfly, Mom, and our youngest sister, whom I'll refer to as Mouse (as she is the year of the rat) were one team, and Dad and I were another. I was wheezing by the end of the game (and I was usually goalie) but I was having so much fun. During the middle of our game, a little boy who might have been in the third grade or so, just jumped in and joined us. He hadn't ever played before, and tried to touch the ball with his hands a few times, but it was fun. He was a help when we scored the winning goal, as well. It was just so much fun to be playing like that, and just being on a team with other people counting on me seemed to help me speed up as I ran.

I LOVE recreation!!! Almost everyday, I'm outside biking, skating, hiking etc. I love where I live, because there is so many great trial here and VT and mnay back roads that are great for biking. My dad and I walk to school (when I have classes) together- we diD just the morning! We both really enjoy excerise and being outside, so we often bike or walk togther. It really has brought us togther.

I should also say, I've gotten really in shape myself. I can easily lift my brother- he's about 75 pounds- and can x-c ski about as fast aa my dad. I'm about 5'6" and weigh 110.

I'm a track person, like my dad, but I don't have any opportunities. Here are some of my average run times:

50 meter: 6 sec.

100 meter: 14 sec.

400 meter: 1 min. 30 sec.

mile: 9 min. 36 sec.

I weigh 150, and weighed 130 or so when I was ten, so fitness has always been on my mind. I do enjoy yoga, hiking, and rollerblading, and I have a hard time keeping up the motivation to run, but that should quickly change next year in gym class (I'm HSed now)! I wished I was smaller when I was 11 and 12, but I've realized that I'm stuck with the frame and metabolism I've got and should just try to make the body I have healthier and stronger. As evident by my Natural Health thread, I am really into eating healthy too. I also lift 50lb feed sacks :D Anyone else here who doesn't weigh 100 lbs?

Also, for next school year, swim team or cross country? Pros and Cons please!

Swimming is really well-rounded and you can improve stamina, arms, legs, core, lung capacity, reaction times, etc. but it's a pain to change after :p Cross country requires less arm strength but it's really good to do with other land sports (soccer, lacrosse, basketball), however there are fewer events for cross country (ex. in Ontario high school league thing there's 3k for midget girls, 4k for jr girls, and 5k for sr girls whereas in swimming there's 50s, 100s, 200s, 400s, 800s, 1500s, relays, etc. etc). Also, it's easier to pass people doing cross country than swimming haha.

This school year in the fall I did cross country 7.5 hrs/week with my school (and we went to provincials :D), in the winter I swam 2 hrs/week (not much but I made finals at regionals so that was cool), and this spring I do JV lacrosse 10 hrs/week and track 2-3 hrs/week. I used to swim 12 hrs/week year-round but then I quit because I didn't have a carpool.

@S.E. Your times are so good! For track I'm doing the 100m, 200m, and 80m hurdles (I'm midget so no 100mH). Do you have any tips for a newbie trackie?
