Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Homeschool...

Homeschool...

I'm not homeschooled, but I think many of you are. I'm interested in how your day is, what you study, how you like it, if your parents act like the teacher, etc. etc., just to see what it's about. I don't know. I thought it would be interesting to start a discussion like this for all of you homeschoolers, and ones who aren't but find it interesting!

P.S. (Sorry if there is another thread somewhere like this. If so, I haven't seen it.)

I'm homeschooled! It's fun.

Okay, so here is my typical day:

1. Get up around 9:00 - 10:00.

2. Wander downstairs and eat some breakfast. My dad always makes it. I'll usually have pancakes or eggs or something like that.

3. Brush teeth, shower, and get dressed. I normally wear sort of PJ-clothes, like sweatpants and T-shirts.

4. At around 11:00, I start schoolwork. I live with lots of siblings, and my mom helps the little kids with their work. They use paper and pencils, but my sister and I use laptops. I do online school, along with my sister, but sometimes my mom will give us a lesson before we get working. So, I start my online lessons and stuff, lots of boring stuff, and usually I have a quiz or test online too. I really like geography and writing.

5. I take 5 subjects: reading, writing, geography, algebra, and chemistry. After I take about 3 subjects, it's around 2:00 and time for lunch. So everyone will troop into the kitchen and we'll eat something like salads or soup.

6. Back to work around 3:00! I finish up my subjects and then I go back and study anything I didn't understand. I'll finish around 4:00 with school.

7. Chatterbox time! I'll go on Cricket for like...2 hours...

8. Then it's time for dinner.

9. Then I do whatever I want, usually Cricket, or occasionally a movie.

10. Bed!

Isn't my life glamorous?

i love handwriting, handwriting is necessary and fundamental and isn't it a good thing we are homeschooled, because they don't teach it in schools!

I just love being home-schooled! I'm seventh grade, and Butterfly's in fifth. Our sister is in K5. Things have been changing around in our house recently, but here's the usual scheduled for me:

1. 7:00/8:59. Wake up, get somethings ready for school, morning family prayer time, breakfast.

2. 9:00. Technically, we should be starting school at nine. But a lot of the time, we get sidetracked. By 9:30, we should be at work. Mondays and Tuesdays, I have penmanship and math (Math-U-See, Algebra One) and on Wednesdays and Thursdays, only math. Tuesdays are when we have to turn in a drawing for the week. After that's done, I go on the computer, and do Duolingo (French) Exploration For Education (Science, physics) and any homework I have from my co-op (usually literary questions or an IEW paper. I'm at high school level writing in IEW, according to my teacher.).

3. 10:00. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I should be starting my class with father (one "essay" a day, history, science.). Because he's just overseeing things, and not really teaching, I spend half an hour to three seconds with him. On Mondays and Wednesdays, Butterfly goes first, and I go in at eleven thirty or so. She and he take much longer, as he is more involved in her classes. When I'm not doing his class, I work on my other stuff. (See #2.)

4. 12:00/12:30. Lunch. After lunch, we have free time until one thirty or two.

5. 1:30/2:00. Work on homework from co-op, science, essay, and whatever else has to be done until three.

6. 3:00. If I have something really important, I keep on working. Otherwise, I read, go outside, write, etc. I also have to make my sisters' and my bed sometimes during the day.

7. 4:00. Snack time, and sometimes after that, I go on the computer.

8.  6:30. Dinner.

Sometimes, there are exceptions. Such as:

Saturdays: Father and I do a half hour slide show, and he does a speech on the Divine Principle.

Fridays: We have co-op. Which means, we wake at 6:20, and are out the door by 8:10. My classes are French, British Literature, A Servant's Heart (we get to do a Meals on Wheels route! :D), and IEW.

Wednesdays: Butterfly has gym. So I stay home with our sister.

Yeah, mostly, that's it.

I go to a hybrid school which means I go to a regular school for 2 days a week (Tuesday and Friday) and am homeschooled for the other 3 days (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday). I really like being homeschooled because if you work really hard, you can get your homework done early and have the rest of the day free. For example, last Thursday my brothers and I finished our homework early and were able to go to a park for most of the afternoon.  Another benefit is that you can have a pajama day whenever you want! My typical homeschool day goes like this:

8:00 - wake up

9:00 - start school work

12:00 - eat lunch

4:00 - finish homework (but it can be finished earlier)

I have a friend who is completely homeschooled, and right now she is doubling up her work each day so that she can get done with her school year early and have a longer summer break, so there are definitely benefits to being homeschooled. Some people say that homeschoolers are unfriendly because they don't go to school and socialize with other people. That is not true. My friend takes classes for Science, Art, and probably some other subjects, so she does socialize with people. Also she socializes with other people at church and extracurricular activities. Anyways, I think it's cool that you're interested in us homeschoolers!

I LOVE my homeschool. As some of you know, though I homeschool, I take a few classes at the school (art and music). I really enjoy that-I get a peek at school life, but don't have all the drama. Plus i'm with the same class for both classes (have been sice 6th grade) so I know the kids really well and they don't find it weird at all.

ANYways, my homeschool routine is pretty much non-existent. Every day I get up around 7:00 (I used to sleep in till 9-10ish) and if my mom (shes our teacher) is not up by the time i'm done with breakfast, I'll do Khan academy or a math perplexor or Latin. if she and my brother are up, then we'll do science or Story of The World until lunch.

After lunch I usually bike for 1/2 hour of so, then come in for math, spelling etc until I've done all the stuff I need to for that day. I usually finish around 2, so I have the afternoon free to bike, read or practice choir stuff.

Thats basically my day!! Of course, some days we go on field trips, or go to a friends house, or I have school, so it completely changs. Thats what I love about it;)

My life sucks. because i was being smug and all, and while my parents were supervising my bro's homeschool, i was just sitting up in my room "working' (aka reading a book i've already read), and now im like SUPER DUPER YOU CANT BELIEVE IT behind in schoolwork and portfolio is due next month and if some MIRACLE doesn't happen, i'm not going to go to camp or my ballet summer intensive and i might even end up going to freaking public school which would screw up my whole life, meaning, no art lessons for me any more, no dance, no music, nothing except stupid school 8 hours a day and stupid worksheets. wow that was one sentence sorry. Because i had a reputation for being good and now it's ruined, because i'm such a procrastinator.

sorry i'm just someone who just sits around feeling sorry for herself. i wish i could say my homeschool rocks, but truth be told, my life is sucking right now.
