Chatterbox: Down to Earth

NAME ORIGINS!!!

NAME ORIGINS!!!

So what's the origin of your name? I know I have a long (and slightly complicated) one!

So once I took a patronus test-- um, actually, more like four of them. Twice I got a stag and twice I got an owl. And I couldn't choose which one I wanted more as a patronus. So I made up a new creature-- a stowl.

Okay, so a stowl is basically a creature with a head of an owl's, but with stag horns; a stag body, but wings. Just in case you were curious.

Then I decided I would use that as my nickname, because it's pretty cool. My nickname on Pottermore, that is. But the Pottermore Code of Conduct woudn't let me put "stowl", so I simplified it like this: St.owl.

So for a while I went around being Stowl. Then once I told my mom what my nickname was and how I abbreviated it. And she said, "that sounds like 'St.Owl'.", and it stuck.

What about you guys?

My name here is a story too long to say, but I can tell my NaNoWriMo one.

So my NaNo name is kitkatsammy303. Kit is for kitten (I assume all of you know of my adoration of cats), kat is because it sounds like cat, and sammy, well...

Sammy was a kitten I fostered last summer. He was the sweetest, most perfect kitten I ever had.

And then he got sick and sent away, (with another kitten we named Boone) because we weren't experienced fosters enough to help. I had him for two days. And I was devastated.

After a few months, we'd fostered quite a few kittens, and we said we could take two more. The foster coordinator said one was over the weight and age limit (which meant he could be adopted) but he got aggresive when he was separated from his brother, who wasn't over the weight limit.

But when she handed us the cage, I saw two familiar faces. Boone and Sammy.

For six days, I was possibly the happiest person on Earth. Sammy was as sweet as ever, and Boone- well, that cat could run faster than I could.

Then we had to give them back. Sammy got adopted, and I was devestated again.

But that's my story.

P.S: I took a Patronus test, and I got cat. Yes!

I have a pretty simple story. So, one of my most fave book series are the Oz series. In The Lost Princess of Oz, a character named Cayke The Cookie Cook lost her diamond dishpan. I really liked the character of Cayke, so I named myself after her. The word that isn't in MY name, Cookie, is my captcha's name. The End. *smiles*

@Katie: I ADORE cats too!! Only we can't keep any because of space problems. =( My fave breed is Turkish Van, because of their red and white color and because I like longhair cats best. What's your fave breed?

My nickname has been Ellie since a day or two after I was born. My grandpa called me it, and it caught on. So Cricket told me to type in my name. I didn't feel like putting an a last initial or my full name. So I just put Ellie. My real name is Eliana D., as I've said once or twice before. I almost changed my Cricket name to CrazyLyricsx, but I asked and everyone said they liked Ellie better. So that's my not-so exciting story. Yeah.

Well, first I did crowd sorcery under Juniper L. and Juniper Fir and other names like that. Fir is my pottermore wand wood, but then I wa just trying to figure out a name to use and I really like the outdoors and couldn't decide on a tree name so I decided, Forrest, My full name is Dryad of the Forrest of Time.

"Nora" because it's my birthname, but I go by my middle name in real life. That's Maeve (JUST SO WE'RE CLEAR IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT BUT YOU PROBABLY DID DIDN'T YOU). And "The Singer" because that is my one and only real, true passion.

I mean, as Ella Fitzgerald said, "The only thing better than singing is more singing."

I totally agree with that quote, Nora. I will remember that one.

I like pop music, high notes, and holding notes. Country singing can be fun too.

Singing is awesome! Curious, are either of you (or anyone else) trained via Kodaly method?

I have no idea what you are talking about. I don't take voice lessons, but I do take musical theatre. Oh, and I had a dream last night that I couldn't sing high notes! It was terrifying!

Gordon says cnto. Yes, I was like I," I can'to sing high notes!"

@Cayke: You like cats, too? Hooray! I was beginning to think I was the only one here. :)

I really couldn't choose- they're all so wonderful! But I do hold a fondness for Norweigan Forest cats, Persians, Scottish Folds (Those cats are so ridiculously cute!), and- call me crazy- sphinxes. My mom says the last breed on my list look like rats with large ears, but I still like them.

Speaking of names, I'm thinking of changing my Chatterbox name to Katie. Katie M was simply to clarify, since there used to be other Katies, but they faded, sadly. But what does everybody think?

I say make it Katie. I guess it's easier to say, you know, than Katie M. And you seriously like Sphinxes?! No offense, kitties, but they kinda look creepy to me, you know, they're all wrinkles. I like Scottish Folds too, and Persian cats are just so exotic looking! I am cat-obsessed, as I have read literally hundreds of books on cats, their breeds, and how to take care of them. I made a whole PowerPoint on Turkish Vans, and I presented it to my class. I put so many details I bet they were bored to death. =) My neighbor owns three cats, and one of them, Sylvia, is always outside and is really friendly. I looked up her breed and she looks an awful lot like a Russian Blue. I'm not really sure though, as I have never found the chance to ask my neighbor's mother about it. Come to think of it, I really don't see them that often anymore. Well, cat fans unite!!

Most people know the story of my name, but for those who don't I'll go ahead.

I am very much, and always have been, the kind of girl who gets annoyed at girls who cry over boyfriends and dress in as little clothing as they can get away with. I refuse to wear makeup. I dress modestly. I believe that women should be capable and confident with themselves.

There's always been the blonde stereotype, where we're considered dumb and frivolous. I've always hated that. Why should the color of our hair determine our intelligence and how people view and respect us? I later read Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and was introduced to Annabeth Chase. Smart, fierce, confident, and would you believe it? Blonde. I loved her character! I identified with her in so many ways, and she was much of what I always tried to set the standards of blondes to be. She was the original "blonde heroine" for me. I saw and read more of other female characters who were blonde, and the more enamored I became. It became a joke with me at first to say that "blonde heroines rule". But the more I thought about it, the more serious I became, till it became one of my motos. So when I came on here, I said "what the heck" and submitted that as my name. And it stuck.

So my name stands for not just blondes, but the idea that girls are perfect and awesome just as they are. That not your weight nor looks nor any physical attribute determines your worth. We're all the heroines of our own lives. Society and people can't hold you back.
