Because when the Japanese people adopted Buddhism, they also mixed in their native religions, so we have Japanese-Buddhism. If that makes any sense.............

And, Japanese people are VERY superstitious, but their superstitions make sense! Like, we don't wear shoes inside the house, because doing that would invite death, as the only time Japanese people wear shoes inside the house is when they're dead. And the way that makes sense is that a) it's more sanitary, and b) Japanese traditional flooring is bamboo mats that would be hard to clean dirt out of!!!!

Yeah, I've heard of that!  Koreans are very superstitious, too!  For example, if you give someone shoes for a present, it means they'll run away (supposedly)! :)

Oh, that made me think of something my mom told me once! Thanks XirTalleB!!! Well, anyway, in Japanese tradition, if you give somebody something sharp, like a knife or a pair of scissors, it means you're cutting (get it, something sharp?) your relationship with that person. So, someone gave my Baba (the japanese equivalent of saying Granny, but there's also a formal one too, btw Jiji is Grandpa, also not very formal. I can't remember the loooooong and hard to pronounce formal ones........) a pair of kitchen scissors, and she got reaally mad, and then for some reason, she gave the scissors to my mom, and my mom was like, "Is she trying to cut her relationship with me, or was she just not thinking through it, or what?" It was soooooooooooo funny!
