Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Happy 4th of

Happy 4th of July!

I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Independence Day!

Three things you can answer...completely optional

1. So, what are you guys doing for the holdiay (or, if you're reading this after the 4th...what did you do)? I am going to an outdoor concert later with my family, followed by fireworks.

2. Also, share one 4th of July-related fun fact, either about the holiday itself, or the history, or...something!

3. Share a patriotic quote (you can just Google one if you want). Or one reason you love America.

My Fun Fact: Did you know that over 155 million hot dogs are consumed every Independence Day, which is enough to strech from L.A. to D.C. more than FIVE TIMES?

Quote: "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." -JFK

Sincerely Yours,

Owlgirl AKA Eliza S. :)

Happy Fourth of July to you, as well, Owlgirl! I was just about to write a 4th of July thread when I saw yours, and I like yours way better. So...

1. My family and I are staying home for Fourth of July. We got a bunch of fireworks and sparklers yesterday, so those should last a while. We live in a tiny little farm town, so there won't be too many fireworks. In a way, that is good because in my old town (much bigger) it was so smokey you could barely breathe. We are also going to have smores and stuff tonight as well, which will be fun.

2. Which president was born on the Fourth of July? Calvin Coolidge, the 30th USA President, born in year 1872.

3. America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. - Harry Truman

Again, thank you Owlgirl! And have a great Independence Day with your family!

Happy 4th of July to you too!

1. Some of my extended family got together to have a BBQ lunch, and cinnamon roll breakfast. We went swimming right after lunch, so that was fun. Later tonight, we will be doing FIREWORKS!!!!

2. Three presidents died on July 4th. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe.

3. Quote(s): May we think of freedom not as the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to do what's right. -Peter Marshall

Oh, and here's a picture of fireworks to kick off the celebration:

Yayyyyyy!!!!!!

One thing I love about America is that it's so much better! My mom said that in China, if you make one mistake, flunk one class, fail one test, it will affect your ENTIRE future. There's even a Chinese quote that translates to: "Make one mistake, regret it for thousand years". Not fun, right? Teeny bit intense? But here, as long as you work a bit harder, you can will be successful!

And there are SO MANY more opportunities here!!!!!!! *Everyone rolls eyes as immigrant's daughter launches into speech about America's opportunities*

1. So, what are you guys doing for the holday?

My family and I went to the beach in the middle of the day, and what's funny is that I saw two sisters that I used to be friends with before they went to school. When we got back from the beach, we just hung out, and then my dad grilled hot dogs and burgers and corn for dinner. And then we went to a big open park to see fireworks. The fireworks were being set off somewhere else, across the water, (the park is right across the street from a bay) but we got a great view of them. It's where everybody from our part of the town goes to see the fireworks. And we had 12 packs of sparklers. A lot of other people did too, and while we were waiting for the fireworks, we could see and/or hear other people setting off fireworks in other parts of the neighborhood. Aaaaaand... some person standing not too far away from us had some sort of thing that shot sparkler balls into the air. It was so cool! I can't even describe it.

2. Also, share one 4th of July-related fun fact, either about the holiday itself, or the history, or...something!

Well, I just looked online but I saw a really disturbing image, so I'll pass that one up. And now I need to go google pictures of cute kittens to get that image out of my mind. (Why I hate and love the internet)

3. Share a patriotic quote (you can just Google one if you want). Or one reason you love America.

My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth. - Abraham Lincoln

1. Well, we grilled burgers, ate some homemade cheesecake, and did fireworks. My dad kept dismatling the fireworks, though. XD

2. It's official name is Independence Day? Sorry, not a lot of good ideas.

3. Donald Trump/Hillary Clinton is not Presidant ... yet ...

@Admin, how was your fourth?

Great, thanks! We went to an outdoor band concert with fireworks, and picknicked with friends in the park before the concert. The band played many patriotic pieces, plus the 1812 Overture. And I heard about how all of you were spending the Fourth, posting comments much of the day. (And night after I got home from the fireworks.)

@Admin: The concert I went to ended with the 1812 Overture! It was awesome! I love Tchaikovsky. The cannons, however...was NOT expecting those! The first cannon blast scared me half to death! Did they do cannons at the concert you saw?

They had something to make a big noise, guns with blanks, I think, not actual cannons. And fireworks at near the end of the piece. It was not at the end of the concert, though. I think they do it early in the program before the brass players' lips are shot. Tchaikovsky sure likes lots of fast notes. Then when it's really dark, the full fireworks show begins . . . and the band plays on. They don't get to see the fireworks.

Happy Fourth to you!

1. We do celebrate it, but my parents aren't crazy about cookouts, and my mom says personal fireworks are dangerous. Even though I don't agree with her on many safety worries, I do kinda on that. I'd be happy with reallt tiny sparklers though.

2. America will turn an even 240 years this time.

3. It has the Chatterbox.

Hiiiii I know I'm late but who cares?

1. My friend came over and we made banana splits, swam, and watched fireworks. There were also cupcakes.

2. Many people say that John Hancock signed his name really huge so that "the king could read it without his glasses. Not true. He actually thought he would be the only one signing it and so signed it normal size. Then he realized every one else wanted to sign it so they actually had to sign really small to fit them all in.

3. The world turned upsiiiiiiddee dooooowwwnnnn!!!

I know I'm amost a week late, but it's okay.

1. So, what are you guys doing for the holdiay (or, if you're reading this after the 4th...what did you do)?

I went to my closest friend's house and we swam, had ice cream, and watched fireworks.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on July 4, 1826.
