Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Bootlegs.So

Bootlegs.

So yesterday I received 5 of the old GBA Pokemon games. I was super excited for this, and asking the person that gave it to me where they found it yielded one answer. China. I knew right then that they were all bootleg fakes. Loading them up on a Game Boy Advance gave me the "The previous save file will be loaded. The game can be played." message, a dead bootleg giveaway. Trying to play the game, my name was locked as TEST, and the game was a little glitchy. So let this be a lesson to you, NEVER BUY POKEMON GAMES FROM CHINA!

*Cringes* I recommend you never buy anything from China. Almost always the items are low quality. No offense to anyone, that is just what I've seen.

Yeah . . . for some sad reason China has a lot of bootleggers. Personally, I think most of the quality depends on the company.

Anyhow, I know several people that have been scammed with fake versions of popular toys that were originally from Japan. They're really cheap and only resemble the real thing by like 25%. I've never fallen for one, but I'm one of the few people that would (maybe) waste $3 on them just out of curiosity:P

A bootleg is another name for a fake, knock-off version of something.

I know all about bootlegs... If you want to see an interesting guy who does bootleg (or knockoff, as he calls them) stuff. His name's LeoKimVideo.Smile

BTW, I'm so sorry you got bootleg items, Hacker. It can be really hard to tell what is real and what is fake.Embarassed

Oh, heavens. I have my own horrifying bootleg stories:

My friend Mikaela, back in New Mexico, had this NES. Yeah. An ORIGINAL NES.

We LOVED the Lion King, and we'd always play a game where I would be Nala and she would be Simba. We fought alligators and the like.

Eventually, we always became tired and played Mario or something like it on her NES. She was great at it, so I usually let her play alone.

It was only so long before we found it: an old copy of Lion King V:Timon and Pumbaa.

Does that title sound odd to you? It didn't to our greedy little 7-year-old heads.

We popped it in. It was a bootleg, but we were too naive to know that. In the game you got to choose to play as either "Timon", "Pumbaa", or "Simba".

It had the worst controls, and we only made it about a minute before Mikaela/Simba's lives were out.

Are you sitting down? You'd better sit down for what I will tell you next.

The game showed a "GAME OVER" screen. Simba was standing on this platform, next to what looked like a hanging vine. He then grabbed the vine with his paws and pulled to a chin-up style position.

AND HE HUNG HIMSELF. WITH A NOOSE.

I AM NOT LYING. LOOK IT UP.

Anyway, Mikaela didn't get what was going on, but I did. I told her feverishly to go back to the main menu and pick someone else. We went with Timon.

What was Timon's end screen?

HE WAS CRYING WHILE DIGGING HIS OWN GRAVE.

Mikaela knew what was going on then. I kid you not, we literally bashed the game to pieces.

So that was FUN!

We actually swore never to tell anyone, but I feel I ought to.

Bye.

Umm... Creepy bootleg, I'd say. I would have smashed the thing after seeing that first death animation.

That's terrifying. I wish you had stayed to see Pumbaa's screen, but honestly, as a seven year old, I would have thrown it out the window before I even got to Timon.

Have you been forever scarred from anything Lion King related now? I would be, haha.

I've actually seen videos of this particular one. One of the more awful bootlegs.
