Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I'm flying for

I'm flying for the first time this summer, and I'm a little nervous. Does anyone have some tips????????

Flying is safer than riding in a car. Think of all the people who work for airlines and fly every day. It's fun to look out the window. And you'll get to your destination so much faster than you would if you went by car!

I'm sorry to say my computer will no longer let me this thread:(:( The advice I did see is going to be very helpful on the flight. *runs downstairs to room to see how many days until takeoff* 36 days and counting!!

This is a little bit off subject, but I love flying! My uncle owns his own plane (which is his job) and has an airstrip within biking distance from our farm. Sometimes he comes over and gives us rides! He lets us fly the plane, (but not take off or land untill we are older), It is SO FUN!!!!! He isn't supposed to give lessons or anything, so we can't get lisences or anything, but I don't really care for one anyway.(:

If your ears get clogged, just chill. Flying is fun! ESPECIALLY FLYING IN HANGLIDERS LIKE I don't DO.

You get that too!?  Usually when I go in a plane, I get a lot of pressure in my ears, and it really hurts.  But the rest of my family doesn't get that, so I'm sure you'll be okay, Clair. :)

Oh, I hope you have a GREAT time!! :D:D:D I LOVE flying!!! :) I flew on two different trips within the last year, so I bet I can think of lots of tips!! :D First, don't wear any sort of shoes that are a lot of work to get on and off, like sneakers (you have to tie them), because when you go through security you have to take them off, and make sure they're comfortable, because it's not fun to be on a plane in uncomfortable shoes!!  Depending on what time of the day it is, you can buy some food (I bought a muffin, a banana, and orange juice in the morning) once you're past security, and you can bring that on the plane for when you're hungry.  Bring a backpack with some stuff to do, but don't bring waaay too much stuff, because, remember, you'll be carrying that heavy bag from terminal to terminal at all the airports, and it can hurt!! :) Bring things in it, like one or two good books, that'll last you a while, some CDs (I brought audio dramas) and a portable CD player (and headphones, obviously), maybe a game book if you want (like sudoku or crossword puzzles, some paper and pencils, and, of course, a Cricket (really, I can't fly without them!!)!! :) Really, though, on the last two plane rides I was on, I pretty much only used the CDs, the paper and pencils (while I was listening to the CDs), and the Cricket.  You may think that a six hour long ride is going to be wicked boring, but really, it goes by sooo fast that it always catches me off guard!!! :D

And now for a story about short plane rides: On March 20, 2003, my mom, brother, and I were (trying) to fly home from our trip to Florida (my dad had to go home early because of work).  Ahem, March 20, 2003 (if you don't know, I'll tell you in a second).  It was about dinner time or something, and then, all of a sudden, the alarms went off!!  We panicked!!  Had somebuggy been killed or something??  The security risk sign was still green, so we had no idea what was happening!!  All of the flights got immedietly cancelled and postponed (ours was rescheduled until about 1:00 the next morning!).  We asked some people at a food booth what was up, and they didn't know either.  We called my dad, and he told us that the US had declared war on Iraq.  I still find it rather odd they set off the alarm, but anyway, we waited and waited until our flight was ready, and we boarded (Mom and Clay sat in a row together, and I sat next to some old man).  I must have fallen asleep immedietly, because what seemed like maybe five minutes later, my mom told me it was time to go.  I, very loudly, said, "But Mommy!!  We haven't even left yet!!"  Everyone in the plane started laughing, and I was utterly embarassed. :) Oh yes, that was at the Newark Airport.  Everytime I've been there, something odd has happened...

Anyway, I'm trying to think of more tips!!  Don't wear too, too much metal jewerly, because that might set off the alarms in the security place.  If you can help it, don't sit near the engines, because you'll get a terrible view (and a noisy one, too, trust me!!)!!  Don't panic if you aren't seated next to anybuggy in your family, and, instead, you're next to some stranger, because I've almost always had to do that, starting when I was five!! :) Sometimes the people are nice (but normally they won't talk to you at all).  And, most of all, don't be scared, because, unless the we declare war on someone, you should be perfectly safe!! :) God will be protecting you!! :):)

Oh, and, where are you going??  I want to know if you're going to any of the jetports I've been to!!  Let's see...  Newark Airport (oh, I hope you don't have to go there!); Portland International Jetport (by far the smallest one yet!  It has 14 doors for planes ((I forgot what they're called)), compared to Orlando's 90-ish!);  Orlando Airport (Mmmm... go to the Chipotle Restaurant that's REALLY close!!!);  Denver airport;  Cleveland airport; And some more, but I can't think right now, so bye!! :)
