YESSS!!

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

YESSS!!

YESSS!!

I have great news! Three great things in fact, so let me list them off:

1. I am now homeschooled. Remember when I published my letter on here about the mistreatment special ed kids are getting? Yeah, that's the school I left, and I am so beyond happy, although that doesn't mean I still won't fight for fair treatment. The main reason I left is academic because I need the best academics possible for my future.

2. I GOT PUBLISHEDDDD! Not for anything major, but I sent a bunch of my poems to different literary magazines and I finally got accepted into one - Canvas Literary Journal. I didn't get into CICADA, and I won't hear back from Rattle until the end of the year, but I am literally bursting with joy. This is one step closer to being a published author. One. Step. Closer. Sadly, I don't get any awards for Canvas besides a discount, but the recognition is enough for me. I'll share the poem down below.

3. I am now sixteen! Yeah, my birthday was yesterday on the ninth, so I guess that means next year I'll be *gulp* seventeen. Wow, I'm getting old xD

And guess what? My friend made me an epic Hamilton-themed cake. He owns his own baking business and is really talented. The cake was amazing, and tasted amazing too, of course. And I got Lin's Hamilton: A Revolution book and the Hamilton calendar to go with it, among other things. Seriously, I went full out Hamilton geek this year. AND my grandpa is getting me drivers ed, so I can finally drive!

That's my good news for now! I'll share the poem if you guys want in the comments. Time to celebrate!!

Happy Birthday and congratulations. I'm not seeing the poem, however.

Thank you, Admin! I meant to actually put it in the comments to keep my main thread shorter. So here's the poem that got accepted! It's based off of the book Persepolis:

Death of the Dove

Fall back, fly back

Time of 1979

Your hands to our words

Like whips across our existence

Force your pathetic modernity

Religious falsehood

Down the throats of my people

Centuries of human dreams

Down the River of Styx

Your lies made you silent

Until you rose once again

Women made to ghosts

Men monsters of the night

Hunters, gatherers

You brought my people back

To our ancient times

Ancestors

Fools

You cage us now like psychopaths

Miserable western circus animals

Forced to fall into bidding

Kissing your feet

Disgusting, rotten with tyranny

Blade to one’s throat

Blackmailed into submission

The unborn cry

For futures, fates stolen

Their mothers chained in a cloak

Of impenetrable darkness

Who is to stop your insane madness?

Is it safe to come out?

Your bombs held above our heads

Our spirits cry

Fire licks the walls of every home

Within ourselves

Held tightly, cannot be set free

Do not let me go

I sit here, crying

Following your footsteps without purpose

Children, so simple, we do not know

As one, I pulled strings of others

Why? To satisfy hunger

A country of a thirty-nine million

Raise their hands in everlasting joy

Sixty thousand under our feet

Yet you, my terrible

Heartless friend

Has been found ostracized

Cut off from a seemingly

Eternal stronghold

Rejoice for the king is gone

One shall live

Without the darkness of your power

Families in peace

Homes restored

Our men, now free from fighting

Women without veils

Yet

The death of the dove

Has come

Thank you! I have actually homeschooled almost my entire life, and we tried public school a few times but it just wasn't working. It'll take a bit adjusting, but not too much I hope. It's actually going really great so far. Thank you again!

Thank you so much! And I know with practice you can write anything. When it comes to poetry, write as if you had headphones on and eyes closed. Let your heart lead your hands, and shut off your brain. Don't focus on the words, the meaning, just write. Poetry is just a beautiful thing! Thanks again!

Thank you! I think Montessori schools are brilliant, although I've never attended one myself. I think you'd love it. I've been homeschooled almost my entire life, so I'm pretty familiar with it all, it's great.
