Colours

In "this month" we had a little conversation about colour and how other animals see it. It sort of ranged into a conversation about colour blindness and things like that and it was very interesting. It was in a thread by "not telling" with the title "...". It is currently on page one of This Month if you'd like to take a look.

I sort of wanted to bring the conversation further.

So how do we know we are seeing the same colours as everyone else? Obviously when you see the colour green, for example, you assume that people around you are seeing the same colour as you. Even if you say "look at the green tree" you can still never be certain someone else is seeing red, but call it green because that's what they know it as.

Some people think that dogs can only see the colours black, white and yellow, and it is a little sad that they see the world so simply and differently. But, did you know that some animals see in a colour known as "ultra violet" that our eyes dont have the ability to see? Its pretty cool to think that all different people and animals are seeing the world differently from that of our eyes. Are you even seeing the same colours as I am? We may never know.

Whats your opinion on the subject?

Well, I know I'm not seeing the same color as everyone else. My dad's vision is tinted blue, it seems, and my sister's is tinted orange, I believe. My family discusses these types of topics often, so I think about such things a lot. I forget what the consensus was on what color my vision is tinted, but basically everything started when my family and I began arguing over what color a street sign was.
