Are there any

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Are there any

Are there any other crocheters out there? (For those of you who don't know, crochet is pronounced crow-shay, and it's done with a single hook, not unlike knitting, but, in my opinion, faster and cooler.) I think I saw something on an old thread I was reading about Lena crocheting, but I'm not sure.... I don't know very many people my age who do, (as in, maybe two - hey, I rhymed! :D) and one of the two lives in Connecticut.  I'm nuts about it. I do it all the time. There are two girls across the street I babysit (Ok, so they're 8 1/2 and 10, so it's not that much of an age difference) and I've taught them to crochet pretty well... they can't really do it entirely on their own yet, but they're getting there. Anyway, I just wanted to know.... I've been crocheting for just over two years, I think, and I'm starting to make a little money off it, which is very nice since yarn and stuff like that are rather pricey for my slim purse. (Hence my babysitting, especially in the summer. And actually, I don't have a purse. More of a tote bag to haul yarn and books around in. =D) I have a pattern for adorable little clotheslines that I'm selling to family and friends for something like $15 each, and my aunt is a salesperson for appliances, and every time someone buys a washer/dryer set from her, she orders a clothesline from me for them. That's nice. And my mom is my other best customer - baby shower gifts and the like. If there are any crocheters (or knitters or beaders, or other crafters) out there, have you heard of Etsy? I'm going to start selling stuff I've made this fall, taking the summer to stockpile. I also can do just about every other handicraft under the sun except embroidery, and that I can sort of do. I can knit, bead, I'm learning to quilt, I can sew if I have to, I can make doll furniture out of foamcore and tiny wooden cubes.... Anyway, that was really long to ask a simple question. :P And if there are any crocheters out ther, and if you want me to, I have a good, easy flower pattern I could post. I think I'll keep the other patterns of my own invention to myself. :D

I sew and right now I'm working on a bead project. I'm going to enter it in the open class section in our county fair.

Awesome! I'm planning to enter some of my work in the state fair come August, too. Don't know what, though. I hope you do well!

I've been able to sew since I was seven or so, and when I was nine or something I finally realized that all it gives me is a really sweaty needle and a lot of pent-up frustration, so I stopped. I can knit and crochet too, but I hardly ever do and frankly, those domestic type things (this includes cooking, laundry folding, bed making, and the like) just seem to sit there and taunt me ("Haha! Every other girl in the universe can bake an entire birthday cake and enjoy themselves whereas you can't even melt chocolate in the microwave without burning it!"), so I stopped doing them unless I really have to. I haven't made my bed since I was seven or eight. :)

Hey, I can bake, but I burn chocolate too.  :)

And I hate hand sewing, but love using the machine!!!!

First of all, it seems like a bad idea to quit just because you're not very good at something. The whole practice factor is pretty big.... and sure, I could bake a birthday cake. If (and only if) it was from a pre-packaged mix. Not otherwise. I don't like cooking, but I can if I have to. And I hate laundry. (It's taken me two days to get a load of jeans through.) And bed making's not my favorite. I've started sleeping on top of the covers with a blanket (or my nice long cloak :D) so that I don't have to.

I don't play it on a regular basis, but I play it with my cousins and family on the 4th of July.

Hey! That's really cool I know how to knit but I don't know how to crochet (that is how you spell it right? Sorry for any spelling errors) I think that it's really neat how you plan on selling some of your work. What is Etsy? I saw you mentioned it above. Anyway, good luck selling more of your stuff!

Yes, crochet is correct.

Etsy is a site where handmade stuff is sold. It looks great, and I like getting ideas from it even though I haven't put anything in my shop yet.

Wow, you sound like me, only I don't crochet!!  I do finger knit, though, not that that's much of an accomplishment.  I've tried regular knitting, but always forget how the moment I set it down.  :)

Yes, I've heard of Etsy, my mom has a shop on there!!!  Right now she taking a little break, but when it's open, she sells little needle felted animals, mostly birds and rabbits!!!  I've been thinking I might open a shop on there too. :)

I'm REALLY crafty (in the art sense, not sly, or anything).  I make stuff ALL the time.  Unfortunately, a lot of my projects are really big, and I'm running out of space!!!!!!!

I bead, sew, finger knit, do paper cut outs, and about a million other things.

I too make little furniture out of foam core (that stuff's WONDERFUL, isn't it???).  And all kinds of little things.  I love miniature stuff, and am always making things as small as I can.

I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, cause I'm not, but one of my projects was a big fairy garden that I worked on for ages, and it turned out really cool and ended up winning best of show at the fair!!!!!!!!  It was the first real award I'd ever gotten (and, so far, the last).

This year... no, probably next, I'm going to enter another project that I'm working on, and it's really exciting.  Maybe when it's done I'll post a picture.  :)

Ok, I gotta go, but it's cool that we have so much in common!!!!!!!  :D :D :D :D

(that's what I love about ChatterBox, I've finally found people who understand how I feel, and think the way I do.  I've always wanted friends like that)   :)

What's her shop name? I think she might already be in my favorites. :D And I LOVE  miniatures!!!!! Adore them! I crochet dolls and can make books for them - perfectly legible, handwritten, and about an inch tall, covered in felt! Try that - glue felt to cardboard, write the pages, and glue them in. Very cool. I've done some big things too - my first thing I ever made with crochet was a massive blanket big enough to just about cover a queen-sized bed. And then I made another one last year. And I made a zig-zag afghan for my great-grandpa. I tend to think big, but too many just don't get done. :( Congrats on your fairy garden! I'd love to see it, but chances are I never will. :( Wow, two frowny faces already. I've got to quit. :D:D:D:D:D That's better. Anywho, yes, I don't know many people like me, which is part of why I'm still on here - this place is just teeming with bookworms, writing geeks, crafters, and people with world views somewhat similar to mine. Thanks, everyone, for being such a great community!!!
