Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Thw word Wicked

Thw word Wicked

As in, "wicked cool!"

Just comment yes if you get it, no if you don't. I've wanted to make this thread for a while, but haven't had the time. This'll be funny!

Oh my gosh.

YES.

YES, I get this.

I'm from Rhode Island, so not only do I get it, I hear it all the time. And say it.

Ahh, I first started unconsciously saying it after watching Harry Potter. Ron, why must you do this to me! Although I also see the word describing evil. But in general, while I do not say it much anymore, I do love it when Ron says "wicked". Especially in the first movie xD

I get what "wicked" means, and I've heard it used. (In the book Drama, Matt calls the costume vault wicked.

I just don't get the joke.

Not really a joke, I think. More like "let's see who gets it and who doesn't get it".

In New England, we use the word 'wicked' to describe something that is really that.

Like 'that's wicked cool!' (Really, really cool.)

'Wicked awesome!' (Especially awesome.)

Or, just 'wicked'. Meaning amazing. You probably know this one from Harry Potter.

As I sometimes take over the cash register in my family's candleshop, I say ''wicked'' a lot as in, ''Yes ma'am all of our candles are wicked.''

But seriously, I don't say wicked too often, and my family doesn't own  a candleshop, even though that would be amazing.

Is this supposed to be a New Englander thing? Because I live in IL and I get it, but I only know a few people who actually say that.

I get it!!!! I don't really say it, but I live in New England and I know a lot of people who do. My English teacher, for example, who is a diehard Bostonian. I guess my state doesn't really use it as much as Rhode Island and Massachusetts do, but it's definitetly there.
