Spreading Awareness

Spreading Awareness

All the 7th graders at my school are working on a project where we research "children in conflict" and come up with ways to help the children we learn about. My group has been researching the lack of education in Niger, but other groups have been focusing on topics like child soldiers, malnutrition, disease, child brides, and natural diasters, and how they affect children all around the world. Today each group shared what they had learned about their topic, and the things I learned from that discussion blew me away. Hearing about the horrible things that children are going through all around the world, and even in the United States made me wish I could help every one of the children in one of these situations. It made me realize that we take the good things in our lives, like education, food, and goood medical care for granted, while millions of children don't have accees to these things. Most of us wake up on Monday morning wishing we could sleep for another hour or two and we complain about having to go to school. Children in Niger long to go to school so they can build a better future for themselves, but poverty and housework keep them out of schoool. In India, children die left and right of malnutrition because they don't have access to enough healthy food to keep them alive. These stories shocked me and made me wonder how I could help these children. Then I realized how I could do my part: by spreading awareness through the CB.

I didn't make this thread to make all of you sad and depressed, I made it because I know that each and every one of you care about other people, and want people to be happy. If each of you do something small to help these children, we can make a difference in the world. I know it seems hard to come up with ways to help these people, but you don't need to do something huge like donating thoudands of dollars to orgnizations that already exist to help these children, or going to Africa to build new schools. All you have to do is spread awareness. By telling just one friend or family member, you are letting more people know about the terrible things that children are going through right now. By posting one thing about this on social media, you are alerting lots of people that this really is happening, and it's a huge problem that needs a solution. It will probably take many many years for these problems to be solved, or they may never fully disappear, but by spreading awareness today, we are helping people create amazing futures for themselves. By mentioning these issues to just one person, we are helping those who can't help themselves, and becoming a voice for the voiceless.

Spread awareness. Do your part to help millions of children across the globe.

Lovely idea, Dragonrider! I am so glad you have brought this up, it is something I often think about. Africa, in general, has been my... calling, of sorts, to help and change for the better. Niger, oh, how I love the place, but you are right. Children, there are suffering the lack of education, among other situations. Not just Niger, but all over the world children are facing issues. And this is the next generation to lead the world! How can we do that if we take away their love, their feelings, their rights, education, food, clothing, and joy? We must stand up for what is right.

I pledge to #SpreadAwareness about the lack of Niger education!

And there's famine in South Sudan and other countries.

I know, it is quite awful! Even in America and Europe people are starving. Well, I actually didn't know about the famine in South Sudan, but I know there are a lot and it is really hurting people. I will do everything in my power to help fix it, which is why I want to join Peace Corps when I am older as a small step.

Thank you for telling me! Now, if only we could raise a collection on the CB, then maybe....

Then maybe... what? I really want to hear your train of thought about this! It could be a good idea.

I agree. When I was little, my family spent a year in India as missionaries, so I saw some of this firsthand, and it's terrible. Thank you, Dragonrider, for bringing this up on the CB.

Thank you DragonRider for telling us all this, it really is terrible. And it happens in every country in the world. I probably take a lot of things for granted, and this is a great way to think about it. Thanks.

...maybe we could donate to some charities that would help.
