Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I'm thinking about

I'm thinking about getting a parakeet or two... I know for a fact that I will be gone for one night every week. I don't want to put a mirror in there because I see that has mixed results. Do you think I should get one or two? I want one so that it would be easier to train, but with two I wouldn't have to bother about it being lonely.

Oh, when I saw the title I thought "Oh no... it must be 'I'm thinking about leaving'". But nope, that's good!

Okay, so we had some awesome parakeets when I was younger. And chickens. And... well, you get the idea. So we had two, and I want to say they were both boys. Honestly, I think two is the best bet if your parents are good a bit extra cost. They keep each other busy and just "talk" back and forth. Quite worth it! As for a mirror, I've never heard much about it. The cage had this little swinging mirror, but they weren't very interested in it. Partly because it was fairly small, I suppose.

So in short, while I don't know the benefits of having one, I think having two is very worth it! It helps them both, and our birds were really tame. So maybe consider getting two?

Oh, and just as a little fun fact: when we got the parakeets I was probably around 7, and my sister was maybe 4? 3? Anyways, we got to choose the name so being very young we both shouted "Birdy!" "Tweety!" and therefore their names became Birdy and Tweety. xD Weren't we just amazingly creative? :P

Thanks! The only problem with getting two is that I'm scared that they'll never sit on my finger... But I suppose having two is better than having one lonley one. I was thinking about getting two boys, and seeing if I could train them to talk.

Yeah, it's whatever you are most comfortable with! We never focused too intensely on training them, so I don't know how that all works. But maybe work with only one at a time when it comes to sitting on your finger? Then as they get that down, work with both?

I wish you the best of luck! Maybe send us pictures once you get one (or two)!

Allright thanks! It'll probaly be like, two years before I can get them. I'm buying most of the stuff and I don't have any money left. :( But I will post pics when I do!

Aw, parakeets are so cute. I've never had a parakeet before, although I know people who have them. I can't give you any tips though.
