Happy 4th of July!!!!!

It's July 5, the day after 4th of July.

This is just a general thread for 4th of July talk.

Do you celebrate this holiday? What does it mean to you?.....

You can share anything you know about 4th of July, maybe a cool fact or wow-ing us with your extensive American Revolution knowledge. Do you any traditions? What did you do is hear for the 4th? What have you done for other years? Any funny or cool stories? Did you have special food?

You can join in too, Admins. :D

Last year on the 4th of July we went to an outdoor symphony and saw fireworks. (I remember chatting with one of the Admins about it.)

This year it was more laid-back, and we didn't have any plans, so we did whatever we wanted to do. My aunt and uncle were staying with us for a couple days, and that was nice because they're super lively and funny. In the morning we made lots of pancakes, then we went to our neighborhood pool. A nice woman (who I don't know) randomly gave me a red, white, and blue Popsicle. Thank you, anonymous woman! After the pool we relaxed at home, and I did some reading and a bit of writing while the grown-ups did whatever's till lunch was ready, which was really good sliders and homemade fries.

At some point they watched an action movie or something. Then they turned on a more younger age friendly movie and my brother and I came to watch. We had seen it before, but it was the funniest ever this time because everyone was laughing a lot more, and laughs are often contagious. Then my aunt and uncle left, and I had dinner, read some more, and went to bed. I didn't see fireworks, but I could hear them, from somewhere.

I have some funny stories about fireworks and 4th of July that I can share later.

We went to the same band concert followed by fireworks as we did last year. However, this year there were many, many more people in the park than last year. Parking was a nightmare and, since we're from out of town, we got lost on the way home because the traffic control police wouldn't allow us to turn the way we knew. We did finally make it home. The concert and fireworks were spectacular, well worth the hassle.

My 4th of July this year was a kind of hectic! First, we went to this park about an hour away (where my dad's side of the family lives) and had a picnic with my aunts and uncles and cousins, like we always do on the 4th. We ate and then were just talking, and then my grandma (who has dementia and problems with her hip) told my uncle that she fell during the night and apparently didn't tell any of the people at the assisted living place. So, we had to take her to the ER to see if anything was broken, they gave her an X-ray and a CAT scan, so my parents, aunt, uncle, sister, and I were waiting in the emergency room for 3 hours (fortunately I had brought a sketchbook). Then, they finally finished and discovered nothing was broken, but she has some degenerative osteoparosis or something in her hip. After that we went home and watched the fireworks that my town/city puts on. It was crazy!

Happy late 4th, everyone!

@Admin yup, I remember all about that concert! I'm glad that fireworks were awesome.

@Bluebird best wishes for your grandmother, I hope she's okay. I'm glad that despite that craziness you still had a good time, because you definitely deserve it. :)
