Chatterbox: Down to Earth

I know this

I know this is REALLY early but I nead ideas for Halloween costumes.  I have to figure out what I want to be, and then I have to find the stuff for costumes.  I don't have any ideas.  But I'll list all the things I remember being; faerie, witch, pirate (some people thought I was a gypsy, whatever that is), and Hogwarts student.  I don't remember any more.

Maybe you guys could say all the things that you've been and give ideas!  Or use ideas!  Thanks!

My friend Alison and I are going as Dr. Horrible- she's going as the white version, I'm going as the red version. It's gonna be sick, haha, especially if we can convince Quinn to dress up as like Captain Hammer or something.

Er... Last year I went as Mrs. Lovett and Alison went as our made-up hobo, Ernie the Old Prophetic Who Speaks Of Doom...

Um...

List of Halloween costumes (as much as I can remember {and a lot of them are not in order}):

Ballerina
Ballerina
Fairy princess ballerina
Fairy princess
Fairy ballerina
Fairy
Black cat
Indian princess (from India, not here  :) )
Autumn Fairy
(big gap here... can't remember what I was...)
Sorceress of Stars
Gypsy
Flapper

And this year I'm going to be Maid Marian.

Next year I was thinking I'd be an awesome Vampiress, or a Pirate. but those are too 'in' right now.  I mean, EVERYONE will be going as one of those.... So I might have to choose something like a girl from Regency, Marie Antoinette, or Little Women (civil war) times.

Good luck!!!!!!!

Oh, and don't worry, I ALWAYS plan everything WAY ahead of time.  Everyone was teasing me because at my thirteenth birthday party I was planning my fourteenth one.  :)

I always plan my costumes early. Um,lets see,I was a black cat, cowgirl, princess,(gap)witch,(BIG GAP),cowgirl,Dorthy from the wizard of Oz,and last year I was a midevil princess or something like that by day for the halloween party at school and trick or treating at the stores downtown, and at night for trick or treating at houses,I used the same costume but I was a witch instead. Not a little girl witch, but an EVIL WITCH. I want to be a pirate this year.

Um... I've been a clown and a pirate and Pipi Longstocking before.  But a good one is a 'spa beauty queen'.  Where a bathrobe and slippers with nails painted.  Have a mud mask on your face and put your hair in curlers or in a showercap or both!!  It's fun!!  (Except the mud mask starts hurting after a while!! HaHa!)

Go as an iPod! Find a cardboard box that comes a little above your knees. Cut off the flaps on the bottom (that's the side where your legs come out) and cut a hole in the top for your head. Then cut out holes in the sides for your arms. Make sure the holes are right were your shoulders are or else it'll be really uncomfortable. Draw in pencil the screen, buttons, etc. and then paint it all in. If you want to be able to run, I'd suggest using a small box that covers you from your shoulders to your waste.

I've been:

-a witch more times than I can remember

-a pumpkin twice

-Princess Leia (Star Wars)

-an iPod

-a crazy person: basically, a black spotted dress, a crazy wig, red tights and black church shoes... and my Miraculous Medal (LOL) :):):) )

-a clown more than once

Ha!!  You're funny.  Good idea 'bout the ipod...

I've never been trick-or-treating (gasp in horror if you want, I've heard plenty of it) but I have some ideas....

Wall-e. That would be easy - a big cardboard box and some creativity is really all you need. And it would be funny if you had your bag or bucket hanging inside the front of the box and you cut a hole above it and mimicked the trash-crushing thing by sweeping the candy in through the hole. And talked mechanically. :D

Someone suggested Maid Marian. Good idea, that. I haven't seen a Robin Hood or Maid Marian in all the years I've been handing out candy.

Genies are good. The girl across the street went as that last year. The costume she had was really pretty, too.

A bag of jelly beans. Get a big clear trash bag and fill it with blown-up balloons, with you inside.

A hobo. That's really easy, cause all you need are ragged clothes, some dirt, and a bandana on a stick.

Do not, I repeat do not go as a Star Wars person. There are so many of those you wouldn't believe.

A Star Trek character would be cool, though, if you're into Star Trek. Dr. Crusher or Captain Janeway or someone like that.

There's always Queen Elizabeth or Marie Antoinette or someone with a big fancy dress like that. Takes a lot of work, though.

A slice of cheese. You have little sisters, right? One of them could be a mouse and follow you. :D

And whatever you do, don't be one of the lazy teenagers who slap a ghoul mask on their face or go cleverly disguised as themselves. This year I'm not giving candy to anyone dressed like themselves. I'm sure it took a lot of hard work, but it's just not creative enough. Hope you find an idea you like!

HA HA!!  Poor ghouls!!  But I agree.  It's not worth it, I mean, how hard is it to put on a real costume??  :)  (sorry to anyone who does that)

So how come you never go out???

submitted by Laura
(June 18, 2009 - 1:27 pm)

Why do I never go out? A lot of it is because of Philippians 4:8. "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on these things." (ESV) *resists the urge to add side note here* Halloween is, in general, a celebration of everything that is disgusting and horrible. (I'm not educated on how it began, what its roots are, but that's what is now, what our culture has turned it into, at least.) Sure, you could put on an un-horrible costume, and a lot of people do, but it's still participating in something that is directly contrary to the verse above. I'm not slamming people who trick-or-treat. For most people, it's a harmless pastime and a fun tradition. It's just that my parents didn't want my brother and me to participate in it, especially as little kids while they were building the foundations of our beliefs. (Like, they would never have let me read Dante's Inferno as a second-grader, but they let me read it because it was assigned in literature this year. They've gotten us to the point that something like that isn't going to hurt us spiritually, however much we abhor it while reading it. Does that make sense?) If we wanted to go out now, I think they'd let us, but they've explained this argument to us, and we see it as valid. Handing out candy is something we've done in the last couple of years only. I hope I've written that logically. :P

Hmm, try something creative. It just gets

harder and harder to find good costumes.

One time this boy at school (when I was still

going to public school) went as an outhouse....

Don't ask, it was really strange. But everyone

was commenting on how creative that was.

I'm sure that isn't what you had in mind ;D

My point is, go as something people might

not normally think of. And if you do go as

something more common, like a witch or a

pirate, try and make it really realistic looking.

Last year I was thinking about going as a

ghost. I was going to wear like a long white,

raggedy dress, have my hair kind of messed

up, and make my skin look as white as possible.

Of course, I would have had a million people

ask me what I was supposed to be, but I think

it would've been fun, just I didn't think that

up in time to get everything ready... -_-

Anyway, here's a list of some of the things I

remember I've been:

- Clown (when I was about three...)

- Fairy Princess

- Barbie

- Vampiress

- Witch (many times...)

That's all I can remember now. I'll write back

if I remember more.

Anyway, good luck thinking of something

good! Tell us what you come up with ;D

I've gone an Angel, Dinosaur, Gypsy, Cowgirl, Pirate, Clown, Cat, Witch, and... probably more, but i'll have to get back to you... Once one of my friends went as a dice, he wore a giant box and painted it white with black dots. Last year one of my other friends went as a cereal killer. She taped a bunch of cereal boses to herself and had plastic knives sticking out of the boxes!

LOL! :)

H'mm, I've been a witch (who hasn't), a cat, a gypsy, some sort of witchy bride-y thingy (I still don't understand why), Glinda the Good Witch, Cinderella, a mouse involved in politics (don't ask, please), and, well, when I was younger, a peapod and a cow and "cute" things like that. Oh, and one time some sort of spidery vampire thingy... which I also don't quite understand. And that's about it, I think... not very original, h'm?
