I think it

I think it would be interesting to discuss  feminism. Not exactly a debate, just sharing opinions on what you all take it to mean, whether it is neccesary, and whether there is a problem.

Sorry, Admins, if this topic isn't allowed!

Blue Smoke, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I know that the Bible is commonly associated with "judgment" but the Bible isn't judgmental, it teaches you how to judge. I think you're judging me right now. Whether or not you agree with me or whether or not I'm using the correct grammar. I don't think you're being judgmental, you're just making desions. Can you point out a specific passage in the Bible that justifies what you say it does?

Thoughts and Opinions on Feminism:

Now I know some people think that this movement has lost steam, or slowed, mainly because they believe there isn't much more to fight for. "Women already have the same rights as men," they say, "There isn't a need for change anymore!" But I have three things to say to that: 1) The Gender Pay Gap, which is still unacceptable no matter which way you look at it, 2) Stereotypes and sexism, both of which still exist (unfortunatly), and 3) The ingrained so-called 'gender roles' of women and men in society, which are drilled into children's heads from birth and often combat all of the work done to oppose the stereotypes and sexism. I believe (as many people here have already said) that men and women are completely and totally equal, that they think the same way and act the same way and are all unique and different personalities as individual people. I also think that saying things like, "Boys will be boys," or "Well, a girl's got to do [insert some 'girly' activity] occasionally," or something along those lines, is wrong. One of the many reasons I like the internet is that you can be your own person on it: you don't have to be a gender, you don't have to have people judge you just at a glance, you can just be....yourself. You know, it's funny because when I first came on the CB, I didn't specifically state my gender, and most everybody assumed I was a boy. I mean, it was quite possibly just because I named myself after J.A.R.V.I.S. from the Marvel universe, and that character was a computer program voiced by a guy, but who knows?

Also, this might be just me, but I kind of hate the girl's clothing industry. Sometimes I don't feel like sorting through a huge pile of jeans just to find that one illusive pair that doesn't have huge fake jewels pasted to the back, or that isn't ripped all the way down the front, or that doesn't trail long pieces of lace from the pockets. And then once I find that one pair, I buy it...and then go home and discover that it has FAKE POCKETS!! Ugh...WHO INVENTED THOSE?!

Anyway, those are some of my opinions. This is a good topic to discuss!

I've been kinda watching this thread from afar...

@Jarvis- You are not alone in your dislike for the girls clothes styles...I so agree with you.

@Jarvis and Vyolette

THE PERIL OF THE FAKE POCKETS IS UPON US ALL!!! Man, I hate those things. What's the matter with real pockets, I'd like to know. I may start shopping on the boy's side when it comes to jeans.

Go Rose bud! Go everybody really, this is a super tricky topic sometimes, but the discussion's great, as Cricket always is. I had to skim through this, but I'm mostly sure that I agree with Rose bud on everything.

Doctor Who?, have you seen a diagram that's like a triangle with "God" on the top point, and "wife" and "husband" on the bottom two points? It exemplified literally what you were explaining.

If, as many people have said, feminism is believing men and women are equal, then I'm a feminist, but I don't call myself that because of many issues that go along with it, which I have a different opinion of than many famous feminists.

*high fives Cecilia* Yay! I felt like I was all alone on my planet of non-feminism. I guess that I believe some bits and pieces of feminism, like that we have equal VALUE and equal WORTH in the sight of God, but some parts go directly against my beliefs, like the right to choose, and in some cases that I really haven't seen any of you supporting; women trying to act the way men do just to prove themselves equal.

Honestly, whatever our religion, what I've seen is that there is a pretty fine line between being feminist and not being feminist. We actually share a lot of the same ideas, even if we do disagree on some points. It's kind of nice to see that.

I am firmly a feminist. Sexism is a lot of the reason I stopped being Christian for a while.

I'm a Christian again now! I just used to go to a really sexist church that said that women had to submit to their husbands and that women shouldn't have jobs. I, personally, would rather work in a coal mine than be a home-maker, but I understand that some people are ok with that.

Also, Rose Bud, I'm fine with agreeing to disagree! Personally, I think small children are annoying, but everyone has a different role to fill. (Also, if anyone tries to pull the whole "But you were a child too!" I get it, I'm selfish. Also, jokes on you! I never cried or threw tantrums as a baby. As shocked as you may be, I have multiple sources who have confirmed this.)

Anyway, thanks for listening, and have a great day!
