Chatterbox: Down to Earth

VBS (Vacation Bible

VBS (Vacation Bible School!) Did anybody else's church do this? Our Catholic church did. The theme this year was Crocodile Dock. I was a "crew leader" and led a bunch of little kids around to the different stations (Bible study, crafts, "movies", snack, and games). It was fun, but VERY exhausting! Most of the kids in my group were good, calm ones (thankfully!), but there was this one really hyper girl. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody else did VBS!

Haha, I did the exact same thing. The program was crocodile dock, I was a crew leader, we had the same activities except we had water sports. We go out into the parish school field (VBS is at the parish school) and then about 5 people set up a game and while we play it we get soaked with ice cold water. Since their has to be a religious purpose, the people call it "baptizing" us. A few unlucky people get dunked in the bin of ice water. I happened to be one of them. I was walking inside on the last day when I saw in the reflection of the glass one of the adults mouthing something to another leader and pointing at me. I was grabbed by the arms and feet and carried down the hill. It was fun...and cold. There was only one bratty girl, but I made sure she knew who was boss :D

I did the same thing you did!!!! :):) What age group did you get??  I got 3rd and 4th graders (aaaggghhhhh!!! Eight-year-olds!!!).......  This is copied from the feel-good-make-other-people-happy thread:

Haha, well, I take that back about not making any more eight-year-old enemies... :) I helped out with VBS at my church last week, and two of my friends and I each got our own group; I got 3rd and 4th grade (*dramatic music*).  The first two days were fine, but on Wednesday, while we were waiting to go into the Bible room (the other group was still in there), all of the kids found a stack of bean bags, that they decided to hurl at me.  I must say that I lost that war... :( But the next day was water day, so I stayed inside, just to be safe. :) And then on Friday, they were pretty well behaved, until, after the last day performance thing, they decided to kill me.  They chased me through the entire church...  Fortunately, I found a closet that nobuggy knew about, and I hid there. :):)

Anyway, I had a really good time at the beginning on Friday (probably because they were behaved).  When were were at music (they practice singing songs, so on Friday afternoon, when the parents come, they put on a performance), the VBS director (a really fun young woman at my church)'s sister came into the room carrying the VBS director's baby daughter Leanna (who's just learning to crawl) and a three-week-old cockapoo puppy named Bruster!! :):) We obviously couldn't keep practicing the songs, so we sat down on the floor and played with the babies. :) The VBS director, her sister, and the music director talked togther, half the kids played with Bruster, and half the kids (and I) played with Leanna. :):) The music was still playing in the back ground, we were all singing, and it was soooo funny to watch Leanna, because she would try to clap when we would, and stuff like that. :):):) She's the cutest baby in the world!! :D Anyway, we sang and laughed for probably another ten minutes, and we had this really cool feeling of joy.  I don't know if we were just really happy, or if it was the Holy Spirit we could feel, but it was great! :D:D:D Really, try praising God with seven or eight eight-year-olds and playing with two of God's youngest creations. :):) It was amazing! :D

Oh, and, since ours wasn't Catholic, we didn't have the same company as you, but we had one of the most common non-denominational Christian groups, and this year the theme was the Boomerang Express.  I annoyed all of my non-VBS friends by talking in an Australian accent for the whole week, and it was pretty funny. :):):)

I didn't, because almost no kids go and it's badly organized at my church. I helped lead a group last year, though.

I haven't gone to VBS in a few years because it's really not so great at my parish. For me, anyway. I found it to be sort of childish. Like, they made us sing these corny songs about God loving us, which is true and all, but even as an eight-year-old I didn't feel so comfortable singing about God is the greatest treasure, let's pretend we're on an island, etc., etc.

Two of my friends go to a different one, though, and they say it's really fun, so this is probably just my experience. :)

Yeah, I don't love singing the songs, but I love making the 6th grade boys do it. *smirk* That's one good thing about being the leader. :)

I'm going to be helping with my church's VBS this year I think. I've been to a few VBS's and mostly they are fun, but only one I went to was kind of lame. And I always used to have trouble getting my parents to come to the demonstration at the end. My Mom doesn't hide her feelings about that sort of thing. ("I don't want to come see a bunch of kids perform ill-rehearsed songs with hand motions, and listen to speeches.") That WAS what we were doing, though... Oh well.

I've been to one, but it was an awful expierience becuz I wasn't allowed to be a crew leader, i still had 1 more year to go. So i was one of the only people older than ten that had to go along and sing the songs and do the crafts. But the one i went to was meant specifically for little kids. And then all the crew leaders kinda made fun of me. Not a good experience!!!

:D But I'm sure if I tried it again as a crew leader, it would be better! :D

I think our church might. If we do, I'll definately help out.

I love VBS! We actually hosted one at our house! We also did it last year and about 60 kids came! This year, we had 25, but I'm hoping that next year more kids will come! I look forward to BBS (Backyard Bible School) every year!

I'm Catholic, too. But we do Totus Tuus, which is the Catholic version of VBS. It is so much more fun!

:) I didn't actually get to go to mine, because my grandpa had a heart attack. (He is fine now.).

I could have helped this year, or stayed for one last year in my 7th grade class, which is what I had decided to do. But yeah, I missed it. It's a bit sad, because next year I won't be able to go to my class. (I LOVE LITTLE KIDS THOUGH! So it'll be awesome but I'll miss my friends. ;-;)

Um, one of my friends said our theme was like...Volcano something, or adventure island, or maybe Croco dock, I'm not sure....
